Work Text:
“Kakashi?” Kakashi shifts his feet on her windowsill, expression uncharacteristically unsure.
“Not that I don’t appreciate the visit, but why, exactly, are you here?” It’s a reasonable question, she thinks, considering it’s almost two in the morning. That’s not typically a time one expects to hear a knock on their window from the most antisocial of one’s teammates.
“Um.” Rin doesn’t think she’s ever heard Kakashi stutter before, never seen this nervous flickering of his eyes that refuse to land on anything in particular. It makes heat rise to her cheeks; is he going to—
“I think I might be allergic to Obito.”
Rin’s brain screeches to a halt; “ What?”
Kakashi shoots her a glare and holy shit is he serious?
Obviously he is, she chastises herself, he’s Kakashi, he's always serious. “Why do you think that?” She manages to choke out, brain scrambling to make a lick of sense from Kakashi’s words.
Kakashi turns his face determinedly away from her, “Whenever he gets too close to me, I feel sick, my ability to think properly decreases, I get hot flashes, and experience severe tachycardia—”
Holy shit. Holy shit what the fuck. It’s all Rin can think, because the only thing that sounds like—
The reality of it hits her like a rock: Kakashi has a crush ? On Obito ? No, that’s—seriously?
Kakashi, oblivious to the screaming that is currently the only coherency to be found in Rin’s mind, shoots her an impatient glare. “Well? Is there something I can do about this? It’s getting in the way of—” Kakashi’s words barely register in the face of the blue screen of death of Rin’s brain.
“ You have a crush on Obito?” She sputters, cutting him off.
Kakashi’s eyes blow wide “No! That’s not what I—” the tips of his ears have gone red. Holy fuck he does.
“You do!” She accuses, possibly too loud for two in the morning when her parents are asleep in the room over.
Kakashi slaps a hand over her mouth. He’s blushing , though, so any intimidating effect it might have had is completely ruined.
She licks his hand. It’s admittedly rather childish, but hey, childish situations call for childish solutions.
He gives her a disgusted glance, wiping his hand on his pants, “I’m being serious , this isn’t funny , stop laughing—
But she can’t, because this is quite possibly the funniest situation she has ever been in. Because Kakashi? With feelings for Obito? It’s almost like poetic justice for all the times Kakashi’s made fun of Obito, that all while he’s been calling Obito weak he’s been pining after him. This might actually be the best thing to ever happen to her, even if it means that she has precisely zero chance with Kakashi (and she already knew that).
“Is this why you’re always so mean to him? Like, pigtail pulling?”
Kakashi makes a strangled sound rather like that a cat makes when dunked underwater.
“ I’m not—” He just… stops. Looks a little bit like he wants to die. “I don’t have a crush on Obito.” But he doesn’t sound so sure this time, and that alone is enough to set her off into peals of laughter.
By the time she recovers enough to breathe, to look back at Kakashi, he’s disappeared. Probably left to go have a crisis somewhere , she thinks, snickering.

At training the next day, when Obito’s back is turned and Rin catches Kakashi watching him, she gives Kakashi a thumbs up. He looks like he wants to kill her, so she gives him a radiant smile and tries not to laugh at the redness in his ears as he glares at her. (It doesn't work.)
