Tommy hummed as he placed down a green 5, glancing over the cards in his hands and across the table. Wilbur sat on the couch opposite him, leg crossed over the other with one hand on his chin. Two other hands were holding his cards.
The eight year old grinned to himself.
He was so going to beat his dad at Uno.
Wilbur used another hand to pluck a card before placing it on top with a green 9.
Tommy looked to his own hand, smothering the smile as best as he could.
He had a draw 4, a yellow 3, a blue 7, and lastly a blue 9.
The spider hybrid across from him had 2 cards left in his hand.
Tommy knew he could win this. He placed down his blue 9, looking at Wilbur’s 6 eyes blinking at separate times. Wilbur cocked his head at his own cards before drawing an extra.
Perfect. That means Wilbur didn’t have a wild! Or else he would have played it.
“Dad, wanna make a bet?”
Wilbur looked up, raising a brow as his lips turned upwards. “What type of bet, Toms?”
Tommy tried to keep his smug composure to a minimum. “If I win, you take me to see that new movie! With snacks!”
Wilbur smiled fondly. “Oh yeah? And what if I win?”
Tommy shrugged. “I don’t know. You pick something.”
Wilbur tapped his chin and hummed in faux thought as he looked to the ceiling. “How abouuuut…” Wilbur looked down, eyes locking with Tommy’s. “I get Tommy time.”
Tommy was about to agree when Wilbur raised a finger.
“With a wrap.”
Tommy froze.
So… the stakes were high.
“That seems a bit… High of a demand? Wouldn’t you say?” Tommy asked.
Wilbur leaned back, pressing his extra pair of hands together in a steeple. “You gave the additional bet of snacks at the movie. I believe it is a fair trade.”
Tommy hummed, looking to his cards once more.
He was going to win, there was no doubt.
Tommy nodded. “Deal!”
Wilbur waved his hand at the table. “Your turn.”
Tommy laid down his last blue card, prepared to yell out uno as he put his fingers on his draw 4. Wilbur hummed, laying down a red 7 on top of Tommy’s blue.
Tommy grinned, teeth on display.
Movie time!
He smacked down the draw 4.
“UNO!!!”
Wilbur flopped dramatically backwards with a heavy groan, one of his six arms falling over his face. Tommy cackled manically, nearly falling out of his chair.
“Draw 4! Draw 4!”
Wilbur opened his eyes, a smugness to him that Tommy didn’t register as he reached forward. Wilbur’s hands hovered over the deck, smiling at Tommy as the boy watched him.
Suddenly, Wilbur stopped. Tommy’s brows scrunched together as Wilbur’s hand began to move towards his own cards, fingers pinching around one.
A grin spread up Wilbur’s face as horror fell upon Tommy’s.
He pulled the card out, placing yet another draw 4 on top of Tommy’s. “Uno. Oh, and draw 8.”
Tommy’s card fell out of his hand, jaw dropping as Wilbur just placed his last card down.
He lost.
“Wha… That’s not fair!” Tommy whined. “You had that draw 4 when you drew!”
Wilbur smiled, taking the cards and stuffing them back into the box. “Sometimes it’s better to draw and save that card for later. I assumed you had the other one.”
Tommy just squinted at the man. “You’re a dirty trickster, that’s what you are.”
Wilbur folded up the box, throwing it to the side before smiling at the boy. “A dirty trickster that won a bet.”
Realization dawned on Tommy, face falling in terror. He shot up, scrambling away as fast as he could.
Wilbur laughed, pointing his wrists towards the boy. Spider silk shot out of them, sticking to Tommy’s back and pulling.
Tommy flew backwards with a yelp, Wilbur wrapping all six of his arms around the boy so he couldn’t escape.
“No!” Tommy screeched playfully, trying to wiggle out of the spider’s hold.
Wilbur laughed in his ears. “Oh, come on, lovely. This was your bet. You agreed to it and everything!”
“But then you cheated!” Tommy yelled, starting to feel silk wrap around his legs with Wilbur’s lower pair of arms.
Wilbur huffed. “I did not cheat. It’s in the rules. Just admit you’re a sore loser.”
Tommy did no such thing, rather, screeching and kicking.
Wilbur used one pair of arms to grasp Tommy’s hands, pinning them to the side.
“I should have put no struggling in my terms and conditions. We had a deal, Toms. You gotta honor it. I earned my Tommy time.”
Tommy glared at the man, letting his arms relax.
“Thank you!” Wilbur said in a mockingly delighted tone.
The spider picked him up, easily holding him with his strength before beginning to spin webs around the boy. He circled around Tommy’s legs, a thick white silk starting to surround him.
Tommy just let himself get maneuvered, opting to stare angrily straight forward as Wilbur worked.
In the past, this would have scared him. When Wilbur first fostered him, he had been terrified of the man.
Spiders were scary enough on their own, but a hybrid that had the strength and extra limbs to do a lot more damage?
No thanks.
But after Wilbur shyly introduced himself and his room, worked extra hard to hide his extra appendages and clear the house of any webs, Tommy found his dad was the biggest softy in the world.
Tommy thought he was more like a big ol’ teddy bear. All the spider wanted to do was be near him and hold him close and love him like no one else had.
So, as the two had gotten close and adoption papers were signed, Wilbur asked if he could wrap him.
It had been a quiet question, something Wilbur had clearly wanted to ask for a while.
And as much as Tommy pretended to hate it, he adored it. The act of being surrounded with all of Wilbur’s love and tucked safely in his webs was something Tommy never experienced before. He was sure other hybrids must have been so jealous to not know the affection of a spider hybrid.
To be wrapped in layers and layers of carefully spun silk and held closely like a valuable treasure that needed some of the toughest material as protection… It was astounding.
Feeling Wilbur’s hands carefully maneuver him around with gentle touches as he hummed while he worked…
It made Tommy feel so loved.
But still, Tommy loved to mess with his dad and he was a sore loser.
So despite the soft moment, Tommy decided to keep up his angry expression. He pouted, cheeks puffed out and glaring in whatever direction his father faced him.
The spider made sure his arms were in a comfortable position as he moved up to his middle.
Once Wilbur finished, he smiled and lifted a pair of hands. “All done!”
Tommy continued to stare, cheeks rounded and full of air.
Wilbur grinned, lightly slapping his puffed out cheeks and forcing the air to escape his lips in a huff.
“Cute. You’re so cute when you’re pretending to be mad.”
Tommy stuck his tongue out, Wilbur just giggling as he sat back on the couch. He laid Tommy on top of him, four arms firmly keeping Tommy as close as possible and wrapping him in even more protection as the others played with his hair.
Wilbur pressed small kisses to the boy’s face. “Tommy time is my favorite time. I need more of it. Maybe we should make these bets more often, hm, sweetheart?”
Tommy squinted at the man. “Not if you’re gonna be a dirty trickster.”
Wilbur chuckled. “I make no promises. I’d commit a crime for my Tommy time.”
Tommy laid his head down on the spider’s chest. “What kind of crime?”
Wilbur hummed in thought, scratching at his scalp. “I think… murder. Maybe some arson.”
“Murder? For just 5 minutes of Tommy time?” Tommy asked, letting himself get comfortable.
He’d be here for a lot more than 5 minutes.
Wilbur kissed the top of his head. “You underestimate your worth, lovely. I’d destroy the world just for a little bit more time with you.”
Maybe Tommy didn’t give his dad enough cuddles.
Wilbur began to sit up, wrapping another few threads around Tommy and tying them behind his back.
Oh great, baby carrier.
Wilbur used his hands to crawl up the wall. Instead of just… using the stairs. Like a normal person.
“Why are you so dramatic?” Tommy asked, looking up at the man.
Wilbur just grinned down at him, landing on the balcony. “Where’s the fun in being ordinary?” Wilbur walked to his room, opening the door.
Inside laid many webs. Woven together to create pathways to a larger web in the center that Tommy’s come to know as the man’s bed.
Wilbur crawled along each string, balancing with practiced ease before making it to the center. He plopped down, keeping Tommy on top of him as he wrapped his six arms around the boy once more.
“We’ll go see a movie tomorrow,” Wilbur whispered, kissing his temple.
Tommy grinned, snuggling closer. “Softie.”
“Sunshine,” Wilbur said fondly, affection dripping from the words as he somehow wrapped Tommy up further. “Is it soft of me to want to make my baby happy? To make my son smile that big sunshine smile?”
Tommy grinned. “Maybe not, but having designated Tommy time and wrapping me makes you soft.”
Wilbur’s eyes were like liquid gold; completely melted and shining with admiration. “Maybe.” He pressed another kiss to Tommy’s head. “I love you.”
“Love you too, Dad.”
