She wasn’t on a date; it didn’t matter how much Yang was teasing her about it. Reminding her that she was going out with Jaune into town alone. It still wasn’t a date; it wasn’t a date. When Jaune took her hand into his own, pulled her close and rushed into the comic book store with her it was just because it was raining and he wanted to get out of the rain without either of them tripping.
He only gave her his hoodie because she was cold and he wasn’t. It didn’t make it a date.
Even if she wanted this to be a date.
Her free hand rested in her, in his hoodie pocket as he gently tugged her into the store. Sighing in relief when they finally got inside and out of the rain. She felt bad now, Jaunes hoodie was wet now and she felt the wet fabric cling to her skin.
Of course it wasn’t her fault, it wasn’t like she could control the weather. The rain had nothing to do with her. She was just thnkful to him for giving her his hoodie. Even if she felt guilty that he was the one so drenched now.
“I’m sorry Jaune I got your hoodie all wet.” he apologised to him making him smile back at her.
“Don’t worry about it, I’m just glad it kept you warm. It's just clothes when we get to Beacon I’ll just wash it.” he told her softly his hand running through his wet hair before he looked around the comic bookshop, eagerly leading Ruby to the area that they stuck to usually.
The superhero section, it wasn’t that they were the only comics they read. He had noticed Ruby reading horror depending on her mood and Jaune’s guilty pleasure was romance comics, the comedic ones especially. He even had a couple things in common with Blake when it came to the content he consumed.
“I’m gonna get a hot chocolate and some popcorn, do you want anything?” Jaune asked her with a soft smile making her nod quickly.
“Can I get the same but also a bag of those strawberry gummy sweets.” She told him quicky. Confectioneries were how the comic store made quite a lot of it’s money. The store did sell comics and other items but it also allowed you to relax there, there were bean bag chairs and even a three seater couch in one corner of the store were you could read some of the comics without hving to buy them.
The general rule was that you could read any of the unsealed comics so long as you did buy something and you didn’t cause any trouble.
It was where Ruby and Jaune went a lot of the time on their trips into vale. Sometimes Nora and Ren would come with them usually only when Nora was tired enough to relax and read.
They had invited the others of course, but it wasn’t an interest the rest of team RWBY and JNPR shared. Pyrrha was nice enough to give it a go, more for their sake then anything else but it wasn’t to her taste.
Which was why trips to the comic store were usually shared between only Jaune and Ruby. Just the two of them. Like a date.
He was even paying for her food.
Something that she didn’t really allow at first, she fet bad letting other people buy herself but Jaune was admnt saying that it was only right and that he was happy to buy her food.
The compromise was that he would pay once, then she would pay the next time and so on, this week it was his turn to pay. They had fallen into the routine of going together once every week. Even during the rain.
Although she wished that she had brought a coat with her.
But what if bringing a coat meant that she wouldn’t get to wear Jaunes hoodie? Even when he was gone it felt like she was still with him now. His hoodie smelled like him.
At where her thoughts went she blushed red, her face buried in her hands and that was how she was found.
“Ruby!” A familiar feminine voice called out to her making Ruby pause before she turned around and spotted short green hair framing a freckled face.
“Topaz.” Ruby spoke surprised as she turned to face her friend. Well maybe friend wasn’t the right word. “What are you doing here?” she asked trying to ignore the way that her spirits darkened a little.
“It’s my little brother's birthday today, you know Citrine so I’m here to pick something up for him. I’d ask what you're doing here but I guess even Beacon is not enough to make you grow out of all this.” Topaz said the condescending tone clear but well Ruby never had the confidence to call her out on it.
“I’m just hear with.” before she could finish talking the object of her thoughts appeared beside her carrying sweets, popcorn and a hot chocolate.
“They only had one cup left so you can have the hot chocolate, Ruby.” Jaune told her softly before he realised, she was speaking to someone. “Is she your friend? Hi I’m Jaune.” He introduced himself before she did something stupid.
“it’s okay Jaune we can just share it. Hey Jaune this is Topaz my friend from Haven. Topaz this is Jaune my boyfriend.” It was a miracle she could say that with a straight face and it was another miracle that Jaune went along with it.
“It’s nice to meet you, Topaz.” Jaune spoke quickly and when she felt Jaune’s hand take his she had to fight the urge to blush.
