Chapter 1: Introduction
Chapter Text
Introduction
Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was founded by Irish Immigrant Isolt Sayre and No-Maj James Steward in 1627. From quiet beginnings as a two room day school cottage on Mount Greyback in Massachusetts, the school has expanded to a castle that houses thousands of students and dozens of teachers from across North America (primarily the USA, Canada, and the First Nations/Native Americans) and offers over one hundred course options and extracurriculars.
Classes and living quarters are split between a lower school covering Grades 6-8 and an upper school covering Grades 9-12. They are organized by aptitude with houses mixed where applicable. Course Offerings have been adapted from both the No-Maj Curriculum of Massachusetts and the International Magical Curriculum Standards provided by the ICW such that students can go on to later studies in either Magical or No-Maj Higher Education Options.
Classes were revamped to be more inclusive following the repeal of Rappaport’s Law in 1927 and are periodically updated with the latest research and advancements.
