    There was never a rivalry like theirs. For more than a decade they hated each other, and we loved them for it.

    Stars of the night sky tend to keep to fixed orbits and never interfere with one another. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, stars of equal magnitude who ruled stadiums across the world, never played together, but they always circled each other, as if meant to be, right out of the corner of their eye.
