“No!”
Charlotte sits up so fast she startles Wendy awake, Wendy quick to sit up with her and curl an arm around her when Charlotte reaches for her.
“Same nightmare?”
“Yeah…”
“Oh Babygirl…”
Wendy murmurs the pet name so tenderly that Charlotte almost, almost smiles.
“I’m pretty sure neither of us can die anymore… but if we do? I’ll walk through hell with you.”
“You… would do that?”
“In a heartbeat.”
Wendy promises, smiling when Charlotte curls tighter against her and stroking soft blonde hair gently.
“In a heartbeat Darling, I’m not leaving you again.”
The promise is so tender that Charlotte swears she feels her heart miss several beats. She’s still not used to being loved so deeply and so truly, but she will always be glad she chose to trust Wendy with her heart.
