Chapter Text
Freen's P.O.V
Typical morning of hearing my parents bickering.
I got dressed for school in long pants, long button down shirt, sweater on top and my beanie which I never leave behind. I grabbed my bag and headed towards the door. I passed by my parents' room. "Later." I yelled out. I planned on taking the bus and listening to the new Black Pink song. My mom called for me. "Let me drive you!" "No, I'll take her. Let me drive you." My dad argued.
Ugh! Not this again. Every morning it's the same thing. I need to get my own car, a motorbike or something. "I'll take her. You are in no condition to drive." Mom gave dad the death stare which I've seen many times in the past couple of years.
You could smell the alcohol on my dad's clothes which I'm pretty sure are the same as last night's. He turned towards my direction for a second and I saw a phone number written on his forehead. I know mom and dad are a few steps away from getting a divorce. I don't understand why it hasn't happened yet.
"I will take you. I'm going to pay the credit card bill, the electricity bill, I'm going to the doctor and then I'll go to the real estate agency." Mom sold houses and basically paid for everything. Dad...was there, but he didn't have a steady job. He's in a rock band that hasn't peaked in years, but mom lets him have his dream. We're very humble people. Money basically covers most of the expenses and maybe for a small treat here or there, but that's it.
Dad sobered up for a second. "What do you mean the doctor? What's wrong? Are you okay?" "I'm okay." She answered back angrily. I'm going to be late again. "I'll wait outside while you two argue. See you out there." I'm so tired of their arguing every single day. It would be much easier on all of us if they just divorced.
The day at school went by quickly. Two of my classes were cancelled because the professors are sick. I'm pretty sure they are dating, but obviously won't admit it. I saw Becca a couple of times throughout the day but managed to avoid her and her psycho boyfriend.
Rebecca Patricia Armstrong is the typical high schooler. She's a cheerleader, has the best grades, is dating the quarterback of the football team, Nope, and also has enough time to bully me. I don't know what it is about me that irritates her, but if I have to fight back, I'll do it. I'm not just going to sit there and take her abuse.
I got home, finished half of my homework and watched a couple of videos on YouTube. I heard a knock on the door. "Freen?" It was mom. She always wanted to talk when she and dad had a fight. I rolled my eyes and put on my headphones. Every day was like this: parents bickering, school, Becca bothering me, homework, sleep.
Before class the next morning, I sat on the floor leaning against the lockers because Kirk wanted to show me his new DJ mix. Kirk is my best friend since we were babies because our mothers are best friends. When we were younger, he said he had a crush on me and I basically laughed in his face and let him know that I was 100% a lesbian. It was a little awkward at first, but he handled it well and it didn't break our bond.
As soon as he sat down next to me, we shared the headphones. I had to admit Kirk had a talent for music. If he really wanted to, he could DJ for actual parties instead of just posting mixes on Spotify anonymously and on Facebook. "Dude! This is one of your best mixes." Kirk smiled. "I still want to add a bridge at the end to make it better, you know." That was the problem he wasn't confident enough in his talent.
"Well I think it's really good..." The headphones were ripped out of my ears as soon as he saw his crush, Nita Jensen. "Kirk! What's your problem?" I touched my ear that was now in pain and looked up to see Nita taking some books out of her locker. Here we go again.
"What's up Nita?" Kirk was struggling to untangle the headphones. That's what you get for ripping them off my ears. "Want to listen? I mixed it." He offered her the used headphones. She looked at him in disbelief. "With your headphones..." She laughed. She never gave him even the time of day, but he always tried. "No... Ew, that would be disgusting."
I grabbed my stuff, I didn't want to see him embarrass himself again. I opened my locker to grab the history book. "It's a mix of a song that you like. I posted it on Facebook, but I think you didn't see it." Stalker much? "How do you know my taste in music?" See? I told you. "Oh... You posted it in your stories." This was so awkward. "Oh...you follow me, of course." Oh God, let me save him.
"On all your platforms actually." I grabbed his arm. "Kirk..." I turned him towards me. Nita left looking at Kirk awkwardly. "Dude, you lost something." He searched on the ground. "What?" "Your dignity." I smirked. "Dude..." He looked up at me incredulously. "You're drooling, clean yourself up stalker." I loved teasing him.
I had a little bit of water left in my bottle so I threw it at his face and walked away. He ran after me. "Freen! Come on, dude. Look at what you did." I scoffed. "Good, maybe that way you'll wake up and see the truth. I follow you everywhere Nita." I imitate him. In the corner of my eye I saw her. She was walking down the corridor with her boyfriend, Nope. "Give me a break." He stopped talking when he looked at who I saw.
Our eyes met and I knew she wouldn't be happy about that. "What are you looking at, freak?" Her favorite nickname for me. She was now standing closer to me, closer than I liked. Her boyfriend came up behind her. "What? You like my girl? Do you want a photo? It'll last longer." Nope was so arrogant. I couldn't stand him either. Kirk placed his hand in front of me. "Easy, we don't want any trouble." Nope grabbed Becca's hand. "Losers." He moved back and she laughed. "And freaks, baby."
As they were walking away, I told Kirk "One more thing and I'll kick her ass." Becca turned around as she walked and did an L shape with her fingers in front of her forehead. She laughed louder than before. That's it. I dropped my bag, ran after her and pulled her by her precious hair. "What the hell is wrong with you?! Let me go!" I threw her down on the ground. "Not so brave now huh?!" As most people nowadays do, everyone grabbed their phones including Nope and started recording our fight. We only stopped when we heard her voice.
"Sarocha Chankimha and Rebecca Armstrong!" Crap... Principal Neung.
