Chapter Text
Miles always wondered.
He wondered what his life could be like. There’s a multiverse, right? Why not have a universe where he’s famous. Well, maybe not outright. He might want to make a mark but he wouldn’t want to be hounded by the world at the same time.
So probably not famous as in “5 star celebrity” but maybe known for what he does. Yeah. All the coolest people hide their identity—doing something important, but never leading the credit back to themselves.
Like Spider-Man.
Wow. Still, in the beginning, Miles never gave him a second glance. He was someone doing good by fighting villains. He heard of too many take-down stories from his dad for it to stand out. His dad didn’t have superpowers, yes, but those faded into the background once Spider-Man was around long enough. So yeah, in the beginning, Miles focused on himself and his life instead of the superhuman.
Everything flipped on its head during the collider. Spider-Man promised him guidance when Miles was lost. But Peter never made it out.
It took time (and a few friends) to finally find his calling. He is Spider-Man.
But wondering never stopped. He just wondered about newer things due to newer circumstances. Will he see the other spider-people again? Could he study dimensional travel? How could he best reach his new goal? What if he did things differently? Could his friends keep in contact? What if he isn’t ready? What if he did something more. What if he didn’t do enough.
What could he have done to save uncle Aaron.
None of this mattered now.
Miles was stuck, dying, in another universe. His other-uncle is alive but at what cost? The spider wasn’t meant for him. This universe was burning to the ground because he took Spider-Man from them.
Miles faced himself—hah, the Prowler, how ironic—and… and considered his situation. Either he dies here, now, or he dies in some alleyway, glitching out of existence. His “grand escape” was for nothing. His dad is still going to become captain and meet the same fate all the other captains do. Miguel would love this. Both him and his universal disruption ends here.
But now isn’t the time to give up. Somehow, some way, he needs to fix this. He needs to get back home. He needs to save his dad. He needs to stop the Spot.
The Spot. The Spot. He can travel dimensions. He’s after Miles—arch nemesis and all. If he can just get his attention, he might be able to get back home.
But for now, he needs to get out of this. Peter always told him to watch the hands. It seems like this dimension never got the message.
Even as his cheek burns from the gloves’ power source, even as his whole body aches, he finds strength. He’s going to need to run, but he’s outran the prowler before. This city is formatted the same as his own. And, well, if he doesn’t make it… he can say he went down fighting.
Electricity flowed through his body. He had one chance. He gripped the ropes that held him with a single finger—but that’s all he needed. He steeled his gaze.
It all happened too fast to keep track—a jolt, a punch, a duck, a dodge, a crash, a scratch, a bruise, a death wish, but most importantly, a pulse. He swung out of the broken window as fast as he could, the Prowler hot on his tail. He saved his invisibility to slip into the darkness of the night once he was out of the Prowler’s sight. His spider-sense has never come in more handy.
But now he was stranded. And wounded. And so, so tired.
He should keep going. Find some help. But, wow, that cardboard looks so comfy. Maybe he can… sit for a second. Just until… until he can… can……
