Chapter Text
Kakashi was having a normal day, he started it off with his daily visit to the memorial stone, then headed to the market to pick up eggplant for dinner. Currently, he was on his way back to his apartment via a stroll, because he didn't want to hear Pakkun nag him about 'relaxing' more. He knew how to relax thank you very much.
In fact, he had great plans this afternoon. He had a very special date with his Icha Icha under a nice tree. Pakkun didn't know what he was talking about, he always made time to read the day between missions. Yes, the rest of the day would be great.
That was, until he saw the pink hair in front of him and stopped.
What did this curly-haired menace want now?
"Yo, Taichou! I need a favor."
Kakashi took one look at that sheepish smile and wanted to leave.
"No, and it's Kakashi-senpai outside of missions Ren." He stepped around the red clad annoyance.
He would rather not help the guy who made his life difficult. It was bad enough he existed, but the fact that he made Uchiha Shisui the way he was crossed the line, so no. Kakashi didn't want anything to do with him in his off time.
"Ah come on Senpai I need this favor, really." Kakashi watched Ren's expression cool and his eyes grow serious as he walked next to him.
Kakashi sighed.
"What did you do this time?"
His happy demeanor returned and he gave a shy smile.
"I may of lost my sister."
Kakashi narrowed his eye.
"You lost your sister? She's only eight and you're a jonin." Anbu went unsaid but they both knew what he meant.
"Well, you see... my little hime-sama is a genius and she has such cute eyes so I may have taught her how to suppress her chakra. Then she wanted to play hide and seek and I was the seeker and now I can't find her." He gave a weak laugh.
Kakashi rolled his visible eye. Maybe he should talk to Hokage-sama about getting one Haruno Ren off of his team if he couldn't track a pink haired little girl.
"I'm serious! What part of genius do you not understand? I thought you were one too, or was graduating at five years old all a lie?"
He looked at the groceries in his arms before he looked at the sky.
"Fine, but you owe me, big."
Ren gave a bright smile.
"I knew I could count on you Senpai!" Ren threw his arm over Kakashi's shoulder, but Kakashi side stepped him.
Taking a kunai from his pack he pricked his finger, did the signs and placed his hand on the ground. Out of the smoke popped Pakkun.
"I thought I told you to relax Boss." Pakkun complained.
"I would be, but you see, my precious Kouhai needs help finding his little sister, because he was an idiot and taught a civilian child chakra suppression." Kakashi gave a pointed look at the kouhai in question who looked away.
"Since it's for a missing child I will let you off, just this once. What's the scent?" Pakkun asked as he walked over to Ren.
Ren pulled out a storage scroll and out popped a small cat stuffed animal. Ren held it out for Pakkun to sniff.
"Hmm, I really like this scent. Hey Boss, buy this for me. Next time we take a bath I want to smell like this."
Kakashi gave Pakkun a pat.
"Yes, yes."
"I got it, lets go."
Pakkun took off in a sprint and the Jonin followed. The group weaved in and out of people, going down side streets and over fences. The longer they ran the more surprised Kakashi felt.
How far did this girl go?
Pakkun stopped at an apartment building and started to scale up the side to one of the upper balconies. Once he arrived at his destination he climbed over the railing and jumped on a small child laying in a hammock.
Going by the fact her hair was pink he assumed this was the sibling.
Kakashi scaled a building across the way, and waited for Pakkun to return. He would rather not get involved with children, especially ones that could be just like their older siblings. One Haruno Ren was enough, he didn't need to meet his 'mini-me'.
Kakashi watched as the girl sat up and pat Pakkun, the two exchanging a few words. When she spotted her brother watching on the railing, she shot him a proud smile and puffed her chest, before skipping over to him, talking. It didn't last long before a peal of laughter erupted out of the little one's chest as her older brother held her by her ankle over the side of the building.
Kakashi chuckled at the exasperated look on Ren's face. It served him right that he had a little menace of his own to worry about. Now Ren had an idea what it was like working with him. Kakashi put his hand down and petted the head that appeared at his side.
"Done?"
"Yep, smart kid she was. Already knew how to tree walk since she scaled the building. Extremely bright and smells nice. I like her. She plans on being a shinobi someday too."
"That's nice." Kakashi said, picking up his groceries to head back home, if he moved fast enough there was a chance his day could still be salvaged.
"Reminds me of you, back when you were cute and adorable and not a cranky old man."
"I'm twenty-one Pakkun, I'm not old."
Pakkun sniffed.
"I said what I said."
Kakashi rolled his eye.
"Let's go home." He said before jumping off the side of the building.
"I was serious Kakashi, she reminds me of you. You would be a good jonin-sensei for her."
Kakashi let out a laugh.
Him? A jonin-sensei?
"Never gonna happen."
