Work Text:

The school day was finally over. This meant Genya could finally get out and hang out with his friends, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke. Recently they’ve been studying a lot; so they haven't been able to go to their local coffee shop, owned by their other friend, Tokito Yuichiro’s family. Genya found comfort in that place. It wasn’t very big and it was never overcrowded.

As he walked inside, trying to ignore the odd annoying chat Inosuke, and Zenitsu were having, he felt a bit different as they sat down at the table they normally sit.

“Something on your mind, Genya?” Tanjiro asks curiously.

Genya nods his head before responding. “I just feel a bit weird being here.”

Tanjiro hums for a moment. “Maybe it's because we haven’t been here for a little bit?”

Now that Tanjiro had explained the possible feeling why he felt a bit off was rational and most possibly the most sensible reason.

Just then a familiar blue-eyed boy flowed by. “Hey, guys! Haven’t seen you guys around here for a while!”

Genya smiles at seeing Yuichiro come to greet them once again as usual.

“We’ve been reallyyyyyyyyy busy!” Zenitsu explains.

Yuichiro bounces his head around in a sign that he understands. “So, does anyone want anything? Or are you just going to sit here studying?”

With that. Genya orders a plain black coffee, Tanjiro orders a batch of cookies so that he can bring them back to his siblings, Zenitsu orders a cappuccino because apparently doesn't have enough energy as it is and Inosuke just orders a chocolate milk.

While they were waiting the four boys decided to study for a large test they would have. A couple of minutes later, Yuichiro came out with Genya and Zenitsu’s coffee, and Inosukes chocolate milk.

“Black coffee is disgusting.” he spat.

Confusion made its way onto Genya’s face. If he can remember correctly. Which he can, Yuichiro has always loved black coffee.

“You need to relax, this coffee is going to make you have a heart attack or something,” he said as he looked at Zenitsu.

Zenitsu looked completely dumbfounded and flabbergasted at the bitchy comment.

“And you, chocolate milk makes you look like a child, grow up.”

“HEY! THIS IS VERY ESSENTIAL TO MY DAILY ROUTINE!” Inosuke yelled back. At least someone was able to defend themself. But, Yuichiro simply rolled his eyes and left.

“What's up with him!? He's so bitchy today!” Zenitsu muttered so that only the group could hear him.

Tanjiro sighed. “Maybe he burned his hand in the back or something?”

“That’s still no excuse to flat-out judge us for what we enjoy?” Genya retorted.

“That is true..”

“What’s true?” Yuichiro said as he butted his head into their hunched-over position.

“Ahh, nothing!”

Yuichiro crossed his arms and looked at them with a bored look. “Just because you guys are in high school now doesn't mean you can start hiding stuff from me.”

“It’s not that!” Tanjiro says trying to make sure no one lashes out.

“Oh well, anyway, here's your cookies Tanjiro!”

“Thank, Yuichir--” Suddenly Tanjiro was cut off by a loud crashing sound in the back.

“WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?” Zenitsu screamed.

Yuichiro sighs. “Sorry, we have a new employee and he's pretty...interesting..? I'll be right back” Just like that he's gone again!

Just wondering about how Yuichiro can just run back and forth like that. Also since apparently, they have a new employee that could be a reason why he was acting so bitchy earlier. Whatever it was he hoped he could figure out the reason.

“This is the fifth time today that I’ve told you, you can’t sit on top of the fridge!” Yuichiro's muffled voice said from the kitchen.

Zenitsu gave a look to the rest of them, one that read ‘What the hell?’

Genya had to admit whatever this new employee was doing was extremely weird. Why would they hire someone who would give Yuichiro such a headache? Why not fire them?

After a good 10 minutes, they had started to study as Tanjiro insisted. ‘They’ as in Genya, Tanjiro, and Zenitsu. Inosuke just ended up playing some odd shooting game on his phone.

Sometime later Yuichiro had pulled up a chair and sat at the table with them peeking over Genya’s shoulder. “What are you learning about?”

“Geometry” Genya replied sadly.

Just then Zenitsu’s head popped up and he gave a look to Yuichiro. But the boy just stared back confused.

“Why were you being so rude to us earlier?”

“Huh? When?”

“When you were giving us our drinks! Don’t tell me you’re playing dumb now.”

Yuichiro took a moment then he lit up. “That wasn’t me! Hold on, I'll be right back!” Then he took off once again to run into the backroom.

Genya felt dizzy at all of this. Quite frankly he didn’t care too much anymore about the boy’s attitude. Running your family’s shop after school had to be stressful.

A couple seconds later Yuichiro came out dragging another boy who looked identical to him by the arm to the table. Zenitsu’s jaw dropped as he looked absolutely dumbfounded.

“This is Muichiro, my brother,” Yuichiro said.

The other boy, Now known as Muichiro, had an extremely bored look on his face, he looked like he didn’t want to be there at all.

“Muichiro apologize to my friends.”

Muichiro rolled his eyes. “I’m sorry,” he grumbled

“YOU HAVE A CLONE?!” Inouske shouted. Before Tanjiro immediately shushed him. “Inosuke they’re twins, Not clones!”

Yuichiro sighed and nodded. “He’s the new employee. He had also given you your drinks." Then Yuichiro turned to face his brother before taking Inosuke’s already rolled-up paper and hitting his brother on the head with it. But before he could do that Muichiro’s hand stopped him.

Yuichiro groaned as he threw Inosuke’s paper back to him and made his way out of the café.“I’m leaving, remember to close up when you leave?” Muichiro nodded silently as he shuffled away.

Genya looked out the window to find that the sun was already setting. Meaning it was almost closing time. Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke had also gotten up from their seats.

“Genya I'm going to get home, I need to babysit my siblings and I don't think Nezuko can do it alone!” Tanjiro says.

Zenitsu sighs as he collects all his items from the table. “I also have to get home. Gramps wants me to help make dinner since Kaigaku’s hanging out with his friends.”

“I’m out too, I don't have anything to do, I just don't want to be stuck with you,” Inosuke said as he was still playing that game on his phone, not even looking up at the group; leaving his things behind for Tanjiro to pick up.

Genya really didn't have too much of a problem with Inosuke also leaving. He wasn't too close with him anyway. So he nods. The three boys walk out of the cafe and Genya resumes studying. This test was important and needed to get a good grade. He most definitely didn't want to fail his brother's class, if he did he would never hear the end of it.

~♡~♡~♡~

Before Genya knew it when he looked out the window, it was completely dark outside. He could hear the rain pouring from the outside and when he looked around in the café everyone was gone. It was dimly lit with only a few lights on in the main area with another light on in the backroom. How did Genya not notice everyone left? He looked at his phone and noticed the time. 10:01 pm. Oh, it was really late. He had kept his phone on Do Not Disturb so that way he wouldn't get distracted while studying. He checked his notifications only to find multiple missed calls and text messages from Sanemi. Oh shit, now he was really screwed.

Sanemi: Where the fuck are you?

Sanemi: You’re supposed to be home by now.

Sanemi: I swear if you're out at a party or some shit like that I'll drag you out of there myself.

Sanemi: You’re grounded.

Sanemi: When you get home you better have a good ass excuse for why you’re not here.

Sanemi: You little shit I'm going to kill you I swear.

This was it, Genya was completely screwed. All this studying wouldn’t have even been worth it because after he took the test, Sanemi would kill him. He quickly collected all his things together and put them in his bag and rushed out only to be completely drenched in rain. He quickly turned around and went back inside. Seeing the backlight still on he carefully walked towards it hoping to find an umbrella. He’s sure Yuichiro won’t mind and he’ll give it back once he's finished. He walked into the back kitchen only to find someone sleeping in there.

Muichiro was asleep on the floor of the kitchen in the corner. On, the counter was presumably his phone which was completely blowing up with text messages and phone calls. But it seemed Muichiro didn't hear a thing because he was fast asleep.

The more Genya looked at him, the more adorable he seemed to get. He shook his head realizing that this was his friend's brother and he couldn't like his friend's brother. That was just completely insane! He really, really didn't want to wake him though. He looked so comfortable, and cute. He walked over to him, crouched down, and gently shook his shoulder.

Muichiro's eyelids slowly fluttered open as he blinked blearily. And looked at Genya with a confused expression.

“Hey, get up. Let's get you home, huh?” Genya said softly, careful not to startle the already dazed boy.

Muichiro’s eyebrows furrowed together.“Who are you again?”

“I’m a friend of your brother's. It's late and pouring outside, do you have an umbrella on you?”

Muichiro stood up tiredly and grabbed his bag from the storage room, digging in it. He pulled out an umbrella and handed it to Genya.

Oh, that was cute, he doesn't even know the boy and he is already lending his things to him. Muichiro was quiet, but Genya found it kind of adorable.

Muichiro grabbed his phone and put his bag on and walked out of the backroom and turned off the lights, while Genya followed behind. When he stepped outside he locked the Café door while Genya put the umbrella up.

They walked quietly together, it wasn’t an awkward silence though, it was comfortable. Genya found it overwhelmingly adorable how Muichiro just gave him his umbrella when he didn't even know the guy or what had happened before. The rain was heavy and cold. He could see from the corner of his eye Muichiro was shivering.

“Are you cold?” Genya asked.

“No,” Muichiro said bluntly, clearly lying.

The bus stop was close. Genya knew he wouldn't have much time left to talk to the boy. Maybe he could get Yuichiro to give him his number? When he got to the bus stop he closed the umbrella as he sat down on the bench and Muichiro did so as well.

He could hear the bus coming down the street so he closed the umbrella. “Do you want your umbrella back?”

“Keep it, I don't need it anyway,” Muichiro mumbled as he went on his phone to text whom he could only assume was his Yuichiro.

And just like that Genya knew, he fell in love. He wasn’t sure why that specific sentence made him fall so hard. Was it the way he said it? Or maybe his “kindness”? But Tanjiro was kind all the time? So why didn't Genya like him?

Just then the bus pulled up to the stop.

Genya sighed and got up from where he was sitting. “Well, I'll probably see you again someday or another right?”

Muichiro simply just nodded.

In a way, Genya felt disappointed that was all he was getting from the boy. He hopped on the bus and gave the cash to the bus driver and sat on it. He looked out the window, his gaze fixated on the water drops falling down the window.

He felt someone sit next to him. It was probably some old person but when he turned his head to look at them, it was Muichiro.

Muichiro didn't say anything, which was expected since they were on a bus and there were several other people coming back from work or going out. But he showed his phone screen to him. It was a  conversation between him and Yuichiro.

Yuichiro: Where are you? Kokushibo keeps nagging me, I think he thinks you've gotten kidnapped.

Muichiro: i think i fell asleep in the back but your cute friend told me that he was going to take me home.

Yuichiro: Is Genya still there?! Also, don't call him cute, that's gross.

Muichiro: no, he's getting on a bus to go somewhere. should I go with him?

Yuichiro: No, come home now.

Muichiro: i’m getting on the bus to go with him to go to his home see you at school tomorrow.

Yuichiro: You better be joking.

Muichiro: ;)

Genya’s face filled hot with blush as he looked away from the screen. Muichiro smirked at seeing the reaction of the other. He could tell he had some sort of interest in him. So this was his way of having a little fun with it.

Sometimes he sees Genya when Yuichiro walks with his friends in the hallway. Muichiro wouldn't be lying if he didn't have at least a “small” crush on him. In the end, Muichiro has really no clue where they're going but he can only guess it's to Genya’s house, so this should be eventful.
