Ladies prefer each other

Summary:

Dorothy is Lorelei's girlfriend, after all.

Work Text:

Lorelei only had one best friend, and it was shiny and easy to transport and never argued with her, and they were called diamonds. Because if there was one thing she liked, Lorelei, it was pretty things and stability, and damn, if money and diamonds could help with both of these things.

So, Dorothy settled for the role of girl friend, which was good enough for her. She was Dorothy with men at her feet, and Lorelei's friend at the same time. They were good friends, close friends, buy-one-get-one, and she'd never been as happy as she was since she met that enthusiastic blonde.

And she didn't think anything of it when everytime they met up, Lorelei would hang onto her arm and kiss her goodbye until her cheeks went pink and she had to say 'sweetheart, I have to leave now', while Lorelei's bumbling fool of a husband barely looked up from his files.

Well, he was an idiot, this one. Terribly in love with Lorelei, but didn't have a single idea of who she truly was. Had she swapped personalities with someone, he probably wouldn't've noticed.

"It's dreadful, he keeps insisting we have children, for his father's sake", complained Lorelei one day, laying on the couch, her head right next to Dorothy's lap. "Children! What would I even do with these?"

"Well, education's a good place to start", shrugged off Dorothy.

"I could never!"

Lorelei shook her head, making a few strands of hair move, her lips mimicking a pout.

"But what about you and that man?", she said instead, still refusing to speak Malone's name.

"You know Ernie. He's just like me, doesn't know to keep his eyes on one person at a time", sighed Dorothy.

"That's not true!", protested Lorelei, and she sat up abruptly, almost knocking their heads together. "You've never cheated on him, I would've known!"

"Sometimes, I think I should. Would at least be more interesting than whatever we have", said Dorothy. "Breakfast and dinner, if he's home and I'm too, and otherwise it's a wonder if I see his nose outside of the bedroom."

Lorelei gave her one of her wide-eyed stares, although she seemed to be thinking.

"I can see the wheels in your head turning. What's gotten to you again?", asked Dorothy.

"Well, who would you cheat on him with?"

"Anyone, really."

"How about me?"

That took Dorothy aback for a second.

"Don't be stupid, Lorelei", she protested.

"Oh, will you quit using that word? Gus is not home right now, what would you lose?"

"There's lots of things to lose with affairs like this!"

"It could be just a kiss", still suggested Lorelei. "Although if you really don't want..."

Lorelei had the prettiest lips and the nicest eyes Dorothy could think of, and she was the best friend she could've dreamed of. And she knew if Lorelei kissed her, or if she, Dorothy, kissed Lorelei, well it'd never leave the room, like it'd never happened.

"Alright, but just once", said Dorothy.

"Oh, Dorothy!", exclaimed Lorelei, and, as usually was the case, she was the one to lean forward, pecking right at her lips.

It was very brief, but it was the smell of perfume, the feeling of lipstick on her lips, soft nose bumping against her skin.

Dorothy didn't know why, but she raised her hand to reach for her, and just as Lorelei had moved back, she herself came closer, brought their lips together once more.

She could hear the sound of Lorelei's earrings and necklaces, gentle jingling, and Lorelei responded to her kiss eagerly, so much so that after only a few seconds, Dorothy felt she might lose her breath.

She pulled away for air, but Lorelei's hands remained on the front of her jacket, clenched as if to keep her close.

"Alright, maybe more than one kiss is alright", declared Dorothy.

"I was hoping you'd say that", grinned Lorelei, and she kissed her once more.
