Work Text:

Everything was too much for Liam right now. The screech of the cars moving on the road. The occasional scrape of chairs as his family ate down stairs. The clattering of their utensils, the rustle of their clothes, sound of their voice, even the thud of his heartbeat. He longed for everything to shut up. He couldn’t even move without whining at the creak of his bones. The moon light was too bright, the dull sheets were too noisy, and the clock was ticking too fast. The walls were moving closer. Nothing was okay with Liam right now. The fight with his pack leader didn’t help the headache he had this morning. Everything came crashing down as he ran home and locked himself in his room.

His mother hollered for him to come down stairs but he texted her their code for some alone time. He loathed that he couldn’t wrap himself in his mother’s comfort in the fear of wolfing out and hurting her. He hated that there was no one he could trust to help him right now. He couldn’t trust himself, he couldn’t trust that he wouldn’t lash out in his anger, he couldn’t trust that he wouldn’t hurt his loved ones. He felt like ripping himself and everything apart. But he knew it would only be a minute before he would be back to his healthy self because of his enhanced healing. He couldn’t block out the noise with his earphones as he could hear everything over the music. In times like these he hated his new found wolf powers.

He clung harder into himself. He needed to get over this. He wasn’t a baby. He should be able to keep his emotions in check. Stiles was right, he was a walking time bomb. Scott should have never bit him. He didn’t deserve to be the righteous alpha’s beta. Liam knew deep down he shouldn’t go down the path of self loathing if he wanted this to end quickly but he couldn't control his emotions. He couldn't stop himself from listening to the whispers. They were there from the time his father walked out on him and his mom. The time where his anger burst out. The time where he was bitten. The time Hayden left him without a goodbye. Every memory he thought of it was there. He was a slave for them. A shell of a person controlled by them. He didn’t want them to control him anymore but right now he was too weak to oppose them.

A hand laid itself on top of his head. On instinct he attacked the hand, claws out, fangs bared. Theo stood in front of him, not a drop of fear nor pity could be seen on him. Liam retracted his claws and fangs. He wasn’t up for another argument with Theo right now. He didn’t want anyone to see him like this, that’s why he came home and locked himself in. Liam felt ashamed. Shame of someone seeing him in this broken state clawed Liam louder than the voices. Liam covered himself from head to toe in his blanket and curled up tighter than before. Even if Theo could see his small frame, he wouldn’t see the absolute despair on his face. He prayed Theo would take the hint and leave him be but lady luck was never in his favour.

“Liam tell me how I can help” It felt like all of his walls crumbled with those simple words. He wanted everything to stop so bad that the shame vanished. Theo was someone Liam fought with before. Theo can take Liam. Liam had started to trust the older male from all the times he had saved Liam. Liam never had to keep himself in check with Theo. He could take all the ugly Liam had to give and give it back. Theo didn’t judge him for losing his temper, he even helped Liam to calm down numerous times before.

“It’s all too much,” Liam whispered softly. If Theo didn’t have enhanced hearing he would be able to hear it. Liam heard rustling before a weight was added to the bed. Theo was sitting next to him. His rhythmic heartbeat was soothing unlike his own rapid one. Liam wished it was the only thing he could hear right now. He wished that Theo was the one overwhelming his senses.

“Lights or Sounds,” Theo questioned as if he understood the nonsense Liam said. Nevertheless, Liam was great for understanding him.

“Both” Liam heard rustling as Theo moved around. He wasn’t able to pay much attention as he was once again attacked with the sudden scraping of chairs downstairs. Liam couldn’t help but whimper as his ears throbbed at the sound. More sound assaulted his ears as a car screeched past with loud music. He pushed his hands tightly against his ears. He was surprised that there’s no blood coming out. Liam couldn't remember this ever being this severe. He was able to knock out pretty quick but today he was too agitated. He wanted to run. He wanted to scream. He wanted to break something. He wanted to do something. He wanted everything to stop.

Out of nowhere, his body was lifted and tucked on to something. Shocked, Liam went rigid. Slowly he could feel Theo’s warmth wrap around him. Liam relaxed, the familiar smell of Theo helped Liam feel better. After Liam relaxed on Theo’s hold, Theo very softly started to hum. Liam was too out of it to be shocked at the older male humming to Liam. He could cry, the only thing he can hear now is the soft humming and the rhythmic beat of Theo’s heartbeat. He was so grateful, he felt himself crying. That’s how they spent hours. Liam slowly comes back to himself, while Theo envelops Liam with his whole being. It was well after midnight before Liam could come out of the blanket shield he made for himself. Still Theo didn’t stop him humming nor did he let the beta go. They stayed that for an hour before, Theo grew tired.

“How are you feeling?” Theo sounded so soft that it made Liam’s brain short circuit for a second.

“Better” Liam was too tired to think of anything else at the moment. Exhausted from his episode, he went lax on Theo. Theo moves them so they are cuddling on Liam bed, comfortably. Liam cuddles close and puts his head on Theo’s chest. In return, Theo pulls Liam closer and rests his head on Liam’s hair. Liam could hear small sniffs.

“I don’t like your new shampoo” Silence. Absolute silence before either of them speak.

“Shut up, my mom bought it for me.
