Work Text:

Klavier Gavin had recently gotten into a small indie game entitled Five Nights At Freddy’s. It was 2015 and he was thirteen, young and eager for an escape. He latched onto this idea of convoluted lore and dead children very easily, ready to immerse himself in the video game world.

Around the same time, Kristoph had come to visit for a week, taking time off from his studies to be with his brother again. Klavier knew the real reason for this, at this point— not precious sentimentality, not sympathy for their parents, but to make sure Klavier had been kept safe. To update himself, keep notes in whatever little planner he had on him. Until he could get him to a safer place— back into the world of law.

Anyhow, Five Nights At Freddy’s. Freddy Fazbear himself had Klavier particularly enraptured; with his empty eye sockets and ghostly handprints. He, quite frankly, scared the shit out of him, embarrassingly so for someone as grown as himself. He had tried to play the game, one horrific time, on the shared house computer, and nearly jumped out of his skin when Freddy popped into frame, jumpscaring him. He preferred Markiplier gameplay.

One night, the week Kristoph was visiting, Klavier had been having trouble sleeping. The reason? Five Nights At Freddy’s. Visions of Chica, Bonnie, Foxy, and, of course, Freddy, haunted him. Even Golden Freddy showed up in his dreams, glitching and whispering “it’s me.” It’s like he would get up close to his ear and scream as loud as he could.

Tossing and turning, Klavier finally decided to get up and wander the halls for a bit. Flashlight in hand, from Gott knows where, he began to walk out of his room.

He turned a corner, illuminating the rest of the hall. Suddenly, he heard an odd sound— shuffling, maybe? From the kitchen, as it seemed. Chica???

Shaking a little now, Klavier made his way to the kitchen. The noises got louder, and he got more nervous. What if it was Chica? What if she fucking got him? Stuffed him into a suit, thinking he was an exoskeleton? Nevertheless… Klavier could not seem to stop his body from inching closer, closer still, towards the kitchen.

Finally, as the noises hit its peak, Klavier jumped around the corner and shone his flashlight at the entity. Is th-

“ACH MEIN GOTT ES IST DER FREDDY FAZBÄR!!!”

Klavier screamed with his whole being, encountering the one and only Freddy Fazbear. He ran back to his room, huddling back into his sheets, and turned the flashlight off. He shivered and shook, listening as heavy footsteps made their way to his room. He was going to die, he was sure of it.

Silence ensued. Then, slowly and surely, a figure’s frame hugged the doorway— and its eyes started to glow. Klavier nearly jumped out of his skin, but at the same time, he accepted his death with a calm feeling in his chest. This was it.

Do do do do do do do do do do….

Do do do do

Do do do do

Dooooo….

“Klavier?”

Suddenly, the lights flickered on.

“Kris?”

He blinked, once, twice, at the sight before him. Some guy stood there— no, his brother stood there.

Ach.

His glasses glinted. His tall figure could have been mistaken as Freddy by anyone, right? He looked really unamused, somewhat confused.

“What on earth, Klavier,” he said, his finger resting on the light switch.

“Uh, I don’t know?” Klavier supplied. “I thought—” He didn’t want to finish the sentence.

“You seemed to be scared of a certain Freddy Fazbär.” Kristoph pushed up his glasses. “I assure you, he is a fictional character and cannot harm you.”

He began to leave, finishing the conversation with that, but Klavier interjected. “What if… What if Freddy Fazbear becomes real in five minutes?”

Kristoph paused, turned. “He will not. But, if you insist, I will stay and protect you.”

Klavier smiled as Kristoph went by his bedside, pulling up a chair. He crossed his legs and tilted his chin up, clearly waiting for Klavier to fall asleep. And what could Klavier do but oblige?

He really had missed his older brother. And with him by his side, maybe he could really feel safe.

Until next time, Freddy… I’ll be ready…

He drifted off soon after, sleepy as hell.
