Tsuki sat in his bed, flipping through Lord of the Carrots Ⅲ, a new book Chi recommended just a few days ago. His pet gecko, Splorky, laid at the foot of his bed, sleeping peacefully. Soft music played in the background on his cassette player, tempting him to fall into a deep sleep.
Everything was comfortable and after a few more minutes, Tsuki found himself yawning more and more often. He could see the spring trees from his bedroom window, flowing with the breeze. Though, before he could settle down and turn the lights off, he heard a faint knock on his door; the sound echoing throughout his treehouse. Sighing, he trudged out of bed and headed downstairs.
He opened the door, and he was met with the nervous face of Ken, the bouncer from Geisha’s Bar he was chatting with every other day. The rhino was holding a little, white bow-tied green box in his huge hands.
“Ken? It’s 10 pm. Why are you here?” He said groggily, with a hint of shock in his voice.
Ken rubbed the back of his neck shyly and chuckled. “Yeah, sorry about that, boss. Couldn’t wait.”
Ken then shoved the box into his arms and watched attentively as he opened the gift with confusion. Slowly, he pulled out a beautiful blue scarf.
Tsuki’s face conjured a wide smile and laughter escaped his throat. “Wow… where’d you get this? Yori doesn’t sell clothing, right?”
“Oh, uh, nah. Not from Yori’s…”
“Then where? It’s super nice. Thanks, man,” Tsuki whispered, still admiring the scarf.
When Tsuki didn’t receive an instant response, he looked up. He caught himself fixated on Ken’s face, which was now crimson. Ken mumbled something brief, but it was unclear.
“Huh?”
“Made it. Made it for ya…”
After taking in what his friend had said, Tsuki’s eyes brightened and his tiredness quickly vanished.
“You- You made this? For me?” Tsuki asked in disbelief. The gesture made his small body heat up and his mind went black. It nevertheless raced as instantly as Chi and Moca emptied his carrot chip supply.
Ken nodded, his eyes not meeting his. “Had Paige help me with the knitting…”
“God damn, Ken, that’s amazing,” Tsuki said, a blush rising to his cheeks. “You’re amazing.”
The color of Ken’s face deepened to the color of Tsuki’s classic scarf. “It’s nothing really, boss. No need for the praise.”
“What’re you talking about? You made me a beautiful scarf and gifted it to me at 10 pm. You really are amazing! Like, how could anyone be so —”
Tsuki was cut off by rough lips on his. Blinking twice before processing the situation, he found himself sinking into the kiss. As hastily as it started, Ken pulled away in a panic.
“Shit — I didn’t — Well I did but- I-”
Tsuki smiled before he pulled on Ken’s leather jacket and brought him into another kiss. It was Ken’s turn to be surprised. Tsuki grinned into the kiss when he felt Ken deepen it.
Ken held onto Tsuki’s waist desperately. He never wanted to let go. Ever since the rabbit started chatting it up with him, he had to keep himself from falling deeper and deeper in love. That is, until he couldn’t.
They pulled away to take a breath, panting, and they found themselves in Tsuki’s living room.
“Shit... you’re so gorgeous,” Ken spoke softly in Tsuki’s ear. Tsuki groaned heavily at the praise. Ken was overcome by the noise and reached out to stroke his soft face. Tsuki leaned into the touch as he gently caressed his cheek.
Ken carried Tsuki’s weight, his hands tucked under his legs as they panted for air. Tsuki’s new blue scarf was left forgotten on his kitchen counter.
“So…”
“So?”
“What now?” Ken asked.
Tsuki chuckled whilst continuing to rest his head on Ken’s shoulder. “‘M not sure, but I would like for you to stay a while longer.”
“Really?”
“As long as you’re okay with that.”
“Of course.. Anything for you.”
