Work Text:
When Akito arrives home from the morning market, he finds Toya all bundled up and sleeping on the couch of their living room. The curtain is open at one side, letting in some of the mild morning sunlight to bathe the figure. It is time like this that makes Akito appreciate the fact that Toya is not a full night creature—because he looks so pretty under the morning sunlight.
Toya is a dhampir; a half-vampire half-human. On one hand, there are lots of things that only become possible because he’s half-human. Being out in the daylight won’t kill him unless he’s exposed for far too long. His diet can consist of garlic. He has no affinity for blood, except for Akito’s. But on the other hand, he’s still half-vampire. Silver can hurt him. Shapeshifting is possible although it serves no real purposes. And of course, that beautiful face and ethereal presence—Akito believes that’s his vampire genes at work. Because really, how can someone human possibly be so… breathtaking?
Gently, he caresses Toya’s head, feeling the silky strands of hair on his fingers. A few moments pass like that before Toya shows any sign of waking up. Akito speaks to him in a low voice anyway, not wanting to startle him. “What are you doing here, love? You should sleep in bed.”
Using pet names used to tick Akito off because he was under the impression that they didn’t sound genuine—that people simply do it because it is what other people do when they are in love. The first few times he called Toya ‘love’, he’d merely imitated An’s and Kohane’s antics when the two girls started dating. But then it sticks, and it becomes a habit. Now, he calls Toya ‘love’ because it is something Akito truly means—and no, it’s not sappy, it’s the truth.
“Was waiting for you…” Toya yawns and snuggles deeper into his blanket. He looks cozy and slightly out of himself. “And the weather is nice today.”
Akito hums thoughtfully, observing Toya. “Is it that time of the month? Need me to give you a hand?”
Unlike full-vampires, Toya doesn’t really have to drink blood; human foods are enough to nourish him and keep him alive. But there are times when the craving for blood is present, and Toya will become like this . Instead of turning violent and driven by bloodlust like his vampire relatives, he’ll become soft and sleepy and lethargic. The craving will eventually pass on its own but Akito likes to spoil him during times like these because Toya is especially cuddly and needy (and sometimes even horny).
Toya untangles himself from his blanket and pats the space in the couch beside him, looking at Akito imploringly. The moment Akito is seated, the dhampir immediately straddles him and plants his face in Akito’s neck. Sighing, he snuggles Akito further, like a kitten asking for attention. That action pulls a small chuckle from Akito, and he indulges—he rubs the back of Toya’s head, savoring this rare moment of pure intimacy. Toya has always been slightly taller than Akito, but whenever he wants to drink blood, he tries to make himself smaller so that he can fit in Akito’s laps. The position may not be favorable and least of all practical, but Akito never says anything because he thinks it’s cute.
“Hmm, you smell good,” Toya says.
“You mean my blood smells good.”
Toya laughs, or perhaps more accurately giggles. He wets the area around Akito’s neck with saliva, which supposedly lessens the pain of penetration. From Akito’s experience, though, it still hurts like a bitch every time. But he can’t exactly deny Toya this luxury, can he? After all, the bloodsucking process itself is mostly fine, and almost pleasant if Akito lets himself be honest about it.
Once the dhampir’s fangs have sunk in and the pain of it ebbs, Akito feels himself slowly relaxing. Blood feeding can have that effect on a human—an all-encompassing sense of euphoria and contentedness and comfort. Toya had told Akito before that he views blood feeding as sacred; that it is an act of taking and giving that goes both ways on the basis of mutual understanding. Having done this for the past two years, Akito thinks he knows what Toya meant. He will definitely not want to do this with anyone else but Toya.
When Toya is done, just like always, he licks the wound clean and places a soft kiss there. It’s such a simple gesture but it never fails to make Akito feel all warmed and fluttery inside. Oh my god , he is in too deep, isn’t he?
“So messy… Is my blood that good?” he teases, wiping the trace of red on Toya’s lips with his thumb.
“It’s the best. Thank you.” Toya straightens up to properly see him at eye-level, cupping Akito’s face with both hands. “Akito, why are you so good to me?”
Instead of replying to what must have been a rhetorical question anyway, Akito goes in for a kiss. He can still taste his own blood on Toya’s lips, but he doesn’t care. Not when Toya is so putty in his hands and so trusting and vulnerable. As they kiss, Akito’s hands that are resting on Toya’s ass wander to find Toya’s cool skin underneath his nightwear. But just before things begin to get hot between them, Toya pulls away.
“What did you get for breakfast?”
Akito looks at the ceiling trying to remember what he’d bought. “Rye bread, fresh eggs, milk, some yogurt and berries.”
“Let’s have breakfast. Then, we can cuddle?” Toya asks, hopeful. “You can be the little spoon if you want.”
That is a good offer and Akito is tempted. He likes having Toya as the big spoon because as a dhampir his body temperature is a tad lower than a normal human, so it feels nice to be wrapped in his arms—like he is Akito’s own personal cooler. But today is not about Akito.
“Next time. Today I’m gonna be spoiling you.”
Toya smiles and mumbles a quiet ‘I love you’ before he goes back to kissing Akito.
It’s going to be a slow, lazy day. It’s okay to take their time and savor it, though. Every moment counts; everything between now and then. Sometimes, Akito thinks about how time flows differently for them—about the fact that Toya will outlive him. Someday, he won’t be here to do this for Toya anymore. But that is a problem future Toya and Akito have to face. Today, and many other tomorrows to come, they will be okay because they have each other.
