Camila POV
Camila was heading home from work, it was a very rainy day, she was walking quickly as despite having an umbrella, the brunette was soaked As the Latina was in her yard she heard childlike whimpers coming from the back Camila's motherly instinct took off and she immediately rushed to the backyard... There she found a strange creature trapped in a rope, a trap, she never had traps, she didn't want to hurt the animals, but that's another matter for later, the most important thing is that creature, it looked like something out of one of Luz's fantasy books, she has a long serpentine body with blue fins and green scales, her upper body was humanoid, the creature has black and yellow eyes and the part that would be normally white was blue. The creature panicked and it began to... Talk?
"P-Please...D... D... Don't hurt me..."
Camila wasn't sure how to react, that thing looked like a child, although an otherworldly one who blinked orizontally but still a child
"Hey... Hey... Calm down... I won't hurt you..."
The creature seemed to calm down a little bit
"now, I'll free you from the trap, just stand still"
The veterinarian slowly removed the rope from the tail of the snake creature and freed her "here, you're free, what's your name? Do you even have a name?" The creature shook her head
"I... I don't have a name... I was called Number 5 my entire life..."
Camila looked at the creature with concern
"what about Vee? V is the Roman way to say 5."
The creature nodded "ok Vee... How old are you? What are you? How did you get in my backyard?...
"I'm... 10...I'm a basilisk... And... I've ran... Ran... From a terrible place where they would make me do... Strange things..."
She was 10....that creature is only 10 years old... And from the sound of it she was experimented on, poor her, Camila didn't know how old 10 was to Vee but she looked like a child and was acting like a scared child and no one deserved to be tortured and subjected to horrible experiments, in that moment Camila made a decision
"ok Vee, you can come with me, i'll see what I can do to help you..."
6 years later...
Luz POV
today was terrible, she tried so hard to make that book report good and now the principal told her that she tried too hard, and now she has to go to a "reality check camp" Luz stormed into her room and dropped on the bed, she began quietly sobbing, she didn't want to go there, she didn't want to... But she knew that she had to for her mom...
"hey Luz..."
Luz looked up at the upper bed, there she was her sister
"Luz...what's wrong?"
"it's just that... Mom wants to send me to a reality check camp... I'll go for her but... I really don't want to... You know what I mean Vee?
"yeah... I understand but it probably won't be THAT bad, I'm sure my lil sister will find ways to have fun"
"I hope so..."
Luz prepares her bags and go to the bus stop, Vee decide to stay with her sister to reassure her.
Luz took off her backpack , since it was starting to feel heavy, and posed it on the ground, she was talking to Vee about how scared she was of the camp and the other kids, in that moment an owl grabbed her backpack and began fleeing, Luz and Vee immediately began chasing it to take it back
"Give it back you little rascal!"
The owl ran toward a glowing door, Luz continued to angrily chase the owl while Vee realized what was about to happen and panicky yelled
"LUZ NO! DON'T GO IN THERE!"
Luz didn't have time to react before entering the portal door
Vee was really scared, but she was determined to save her sister so she followed soon after
