Work Text:

“Go, Finney!”

The whole stadium was shaking with the amount of cheering that came from everyone present. Friends, family, random classmates. Everyone from the team had at least one person sitting there, watching, and motivating them throughout the whole match.

But the loudest one was definitely Robin Arellano.

“Kick their asses, Finn!”

The boy couldn’t help but smile, although he hoped he could hide it under his cap.

He was one hell of a pitcher, everyone knew that. Even Bruce Yamada, the boy which he went against last year - he almost couldn’t believe that such a popular player would compliment him specifically.

But no amount of compliments from even the biggest professionals could come close to all the support he’s gotten from Robin.

After every practice, every match, Robin was there, celebrating with him, telling him how good he did, making sure he knows how proud he is, comforting him in case he lost. He was all the support Finney could ever want.

So once his voice started getting louder than the rest of the crowd, Finney knew he couldn’t disappoint him.

The match was already ending - if he threw well, he’d win. And it was crucial that he did, because if his team wins, they’ll move up to a significantly high spot in the rankings. He couldn’t blow this.

He looked over to his coach, then to his teammates, and then to Robin. The last one brightened him up the most, because Robin’s smile and excitement was always contagious for him.

So with all the strength he could, he finally threw the ball - striking out the enemy team’s batter.

The overall cheering got even louder, and he could barely distinguish the voices anymore. When he realized that he won, he immediately ran up to his team, which was just as happy as he was. Although he did get flustered at everyone cheering his name - he never knew how to take this kind of attention too well.

“That’s it, Finney! Good job!”

He immediately looked over to the stadium, catching Robin with his eye. He was clapping twice as loudly, and if he could, he’d be by Finney’s side already.

His sister was right next to Arellano, cheering just as hard.

It felt good to be supported by the two most important people in his life.

“Good game.”

He exchanged a high-five with the last member of the opposing team, and it didn’t take too long for Robin and Gwen to run up to him right after.

“You were insane out there, Finn! That’s my boy!”

Robin pulled him into a hug, leaving a kiss on his cheek before stepping away.

“Thanks for being here, guys. I don’t think I would’ve done so good without you two.”

“Nonsense, you’re always amazing!” Gwen spoke up this time, lightly pushing Finney with her elbow.

They all laughed and joked around while leaving the stadium, seemingly earlier than everyone else, but Finney didn’t really care. What he truly loved about winning a baseball match, is all the things that Robin does for him after.

“Hey, it’s friday, so I’ll be staying at my friend’s house. Let’s go out somewhere tomorrow, all three of us! We’ll go to some restaurant and celebrate.”

It was Gwen’s little tradition to have a sleepover with her friend every friday, and Finney wouldn’t dare to interfere.

“Sounds good to me. What about you, Robin?”

He turned to his boyfriend, who nodded at the idea right away.

“I’d be happy to.”

“Great! See y'all tomorrow!”

They both waved at her, looking after her for a while before she disappeared after a building.

Before Finney could turn his head around, he felt a hand wrap around his waist.

“And how are we gonna celebrate your glorious win today?”

The boy chuckled, too flustered to look Robin straight in the eyes.

“We could finally watch a horror movie together. I have the perfect persuasion tactic on my dad now, he can’t say no today.”

They kept walking while exchanging ideas on how to spend the night, and finally made it to Finney’s house.

“But he’s working late today, so we’ll have to ask him when he comes back.”

Robin nodded, and followed Finney to the kitchen.

He took out two sodas out of the fridge, and handed one to Robin.

“Ugh, I’m beat. My arm is gonna be sore for the next week, I can feel it.”

Robin’s smile turned soft, and he placed his hand around Finney’s shoulder.

“Let’s go rest then, hm? Before your dad gets home.”

Finney loved the idea - all he could think about on the way home was getting to lay down after such a long and emotional day, preferably with Robin.

And so that’s what they did. Soon enough, they were in Finney’s room, and the boy immediately landed straight on his bed. He didn’t even bother to keep his eyes open, he just enjoyed the soft, warm mattress.

“Hey, make some space for me.”

Finney groaned, rolling to the side, at which he got a chuckle. When Robin sat down, he poked Finney’s arm and motioned him to sit in between his legs.

It took Finney a while, though - he was more sore than he thought. He completely forgot about changing his clothes, too.

He sat with his back turned to Robin, which Arellano quickly took advantage of.

Soon enough, he had both of the boy’s arms wrapped around his waist, and he could feel him peppering kisses on his shoulder. Something he’d never get tired of.

“You did so well today, mi amor . I’m proud of you.”

Oh, how Finney loved this. Even if he got bored of baseball at some point, he’d probably still play it just to get this treatment after every match.

“It wasn’t that awesome…”

“Are you kidding? You killed it!” Robin grabbed Finney’s chin softly and turned it to now face his. “You’re the best pitcher in Denver!”

Finney had this problem ever since he met Robin - he could never hide how happy the boy made him. He turned red at every praise, laughed at every joke, and smiled at every compliment. Robin was the only one who made him feel this safe, and he owed him a lot. He felt really cliché by admitting this, but Robin made him feel like he doesn’t have to hide anything, because he loved Finney’s every little detail.

“You should smile more, you’re adorable.”

The soft voice right next to his ear shook him out of his thoughts, and he was focused on Robin again.

“You’re just saying this because you wanna see me blush.”

“I can want two things!”

They both giggled, and soon, Robin put his head to rest on Finney’s shoulder.

“You’re gonna make it big, mi vida. And then I’ll be able to flex on everyone that I’ll be married to a professional baseball player.”

Finney chuckled, but the realization of what Robin just said hit him right after.

“Wait, married?”

Robin looked up at him with a slight hint of confusion.

“You’d… really wanna marry me?”

Ah.

His confusion was quickly swapped with a soft smile, and this specific kind of love in his eyes that Robin only showed when he looked right at Finney.

“Of course! You don’t think I’d just randomly end things when we get older because I’ll get bored or something, right? I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I don’t care if people say I’m too young to know that, I’m pretty set on it already.”

While he was talking, he didn’t realize that not only Finney’s eyes got wider, but brighter, too. When he finished, they were practically glowing.

“Finn, are you okay?”

A few more seconds passed by before Finney closed the tiny space in between them and kissed Robin. Which left Arellano in shock, because he usually wasn’t the one to make first moves.

But he wasn’t complaining, not at all. He only gave in.

Although they weren’t really fit for long kisses - their lungs couldn’t last that long without air yet, but that was okay too. Because after every kiss, they usually went into a laughing fit, and then Robin would kiss Finney a few more times.

So when they finally pulled away, both of them looked at each other as if they were looking at the brightest stars in the galaxy.

“I wish we could get married already.”

“Just a few more years, cariño.”
