Chapter Text
Red Son was nervous, truthfully. He’d never been to a party so large! Or loud.. But the Dragon Horse Girl had promised a good time, so.. What could go wrong? Now to find the Dragon Horse Girl. Where had she said to meet up..? The dance floor? Not there. The arcade? Not there. Maybe he was first.. He’d just wait here, near the entrance, for when she did arrive.
Red Son stared around aimlessly, tapping his foot, crossing his arms.. It was so loud in there, why would anyone choose to meet in a place like this? He glanced at the DJ booth- or whatever it was called-.. Wait, is that MK? He blinked, puzzling in his head, looking at the bright floor as he thought. Why wouldn’t Mei tell him MK would be here. Did she know MK would be here? Had she stood him up as an excuse for him to get along with MK? She had done that before.
He found himself pacing. Small circuits, of course, but pacing nonetheless. It was so loud in the main area, he needed a quiet place to think. His feet carried him toward a smaller area with a red color scheme. There were a few people milling about, but he could handle that. He sat on a dark red sofa, head leaning back as he thought.
“Red Son? Didn’t expect to see you here!” A familiar voice interrupted his thoughts. He looked down to see MK. His.. friend? ex-enemy? Was wearing pink shutter shades and a large, fluffy animal print jacket over his back like a cape. MK’s voice was uncharacteristically lower than normal, more confident. MK never sounded like this when talking to him.
Red Son answered grumpily, “Mei was supposed to meet me here, but she seems to be a no-show.” MK laughed, teeth sharpened like that of a sharks. Strange. He sat next to Red Son.
“Aw, Wildfire, I’ll party with you,” MK flashed that shark toothed smile again. Wildfire.. Red Son looked away, face reddening. MK leaned closer to the Prince. “Oh, you like that nickname? I’ll use it more then..” He leaned back. Just as Red Son looked up, MK seemed to spot something across the room. “They need me at the booth.. See you around, Wildfire~” He stood, walking briskly off.
“Red Son, there you are! Sorry I was late. I looked for you everywhere!” Mei charged at him, a flash of green excitement.
“I thought you blew me off.” Red son deadpanned.
“Never!” Mei seemed shocked, laughter ringing in her voice. “Now.. let's porty!”
Red Son was dragged around the massive party for hours. When Mei was finished, he was so tired he couldn’t think. When the cold air of the outside hit his face he gulped for breath.
“Aw man that was so fun!” Mei chirped, still dragging him.
“Dragon Horse Girl, where are you taking me?” Red Son asked, voice tired.
“Pigsy’s, obviously. I’m so hungry. Also, I wanna say hi to MK! He was training today, that’s why he didn’t come with us.”
Red Son simply nodded. The fact that he’d just seen MK at the party didn’t register in his tired mush-brain. “Alright. I could eat, I suppose.”
The two arrived at the restaurant at around 9:00. Tang was getting ready for bed while Pigsy served the final customers of the night. When Red Son walked in, he heard faint speech upstairs, but he didn’t care much. That was MK’s room. These walls were terribly thin.
He had eaten a small fill and was now relaxing on the bar stools. Again he heard voices from upstairs. Now that he was more focused, his interest was piqued by the speech.
“I need to use the restroom. I’ll be back.” He stood, walking slowly upstairs.
The scene that greeted him was as follows: MK, wearing the same thing as from the party, yelling, spiky teeth bared. He seemed upset, but what made Red Son do a double take was who he was yelling at . Across the room stood.. MK. He was wearing his usual outfit, and when he yelled back, Red saw that his teeth were normal. The two MKs were in a heated argument, it seemed.
“You can’t just talk to people I know! ”
“ You know? I have all of your memories! And you’re not mad when I talk to Mei, or anyone else, for that matter!”
“But he didn’t know! He thought you were me! You mislead him!”
“What was I supposed to do, not talk to him? Then he would have thought you were ignoring him, and god forbid Red Son think badly of you !”
“Shut up!” Here, the normal MK reached a hand out. Golden magic began to weave a spell around the other MK.
“You wouldn’t.”
“Why not?”
“You swore never to put us away whenever you were mad.”
“Well some things are going to have to change around here!” The other MK disappeared in a cloud of golden smoke and.. Hair? The remaining MK turned to go downstairs. He locked eyes with Red Son then. His face went from a mix of disappointment and rage to panic and fear.
“R-Red Son!”
