Work Text:
He never expected to be in the same place as his again, let alone in their airport after getting off the same flight. Izuku stares in shock at his first, and only, love, the one that got away because they didn’t think they could make it. Two years of long distance left them distrustful and insecure, so they ended it over a facetime call that was supposed to focus on their plans to see each other again.
“Izuku Midoriya, it’s been a long time.” says Tomura Shigaraki, low voice rumbling through Izuku with familiarity, comfortably attractive.
“Tomura Shigaraki, it’s been three years. I’d say that’s definitely a long time.” says Izuku a bit hesitantly, nervous as those butterflies return again, soaring through his veins.
“I wasn’t expecting a trip down memory lane, but you still pick at your nailbed with your thumb when you’re nervous.” says Tomura softly as he steps forwards to stop the movement, thumb running down Izuku’s gingerly.
“And you still rub your thumb down mine three times before starting circles, something you do to calm your own nerves while calming mine.” says Izuku as he melts into the gentle caress, the feeling of love fluttering through him a stark contrast to the pain that resonates at Tomura’s name.
“Used to do a lot of things just for the sake of easing your nerves, but you did the same.” replies Tomura quietly as his thumb circles around in Izuku’s skin, implanting his touch there again for the first time in three years.
“Remember how we broke up? How we swore to never do this again? Maybe you should keep that in mind while you’re trying to melt me into a puddle unconsciously or not.” says Izuku a bit harshly as he snaps himself out of it, stepping back forcefully to stop the touch, the feeling of memory lane.
“But we’re older now, Izu, don’t you think about it? About how we could change the old outcome? About how we used to be?” asks Tomura softly, hope lighting up in his eyes as Izuku’s get that faraway look, that look that says he’s remembering something. “Izu, I came here to try to find you.”
“To find me? What in the hell would possess you to do that when we ended things because neither of us wanted to move? I’m not going to do long distance again.” snaps Izuku even as he steps closer, unable to keep from getting closer again, from dropping his eyes down to look at glossy lips.
“Izuku, I’ve taken over the family business. I can be anywhere I want. And all I want to do is be with you.” says Tomura softly as he holds out a hand, waiting for Izuku to tell him whether his searching was worth it, whether the last three years of hard work and failed relationships were worth it to find his forever.
“You can’t tell me that.” says Izuku hollowly, shaking his head as he looks at Tomura, looks at the man he loves with everything in him, the man who swore to never take over the family business. “You can’t tell me that you’re taking over your father’s business, that you’re doing that. Tomura, you swore everyday to never become the man that your father did, to never do what he does. How could you take over the family business?”
“I had to, Izu, it was the only way. I couldn’t be with you otherwise, I couldn’t support you, protect you, I could only love you without getting to hold you, to kiss you, to feel your heart beating against mine. Izuku, this is the only way I can be anywhere with you.” says Tomura seriously, a promise in his words, love shining, hand still outstretched to Izuku, waiting.
“I can’t believe you’d do this for me, not when you know how much I wanted to become a police officer. I can’t be… Tomura, I can’t.” says Izuku brokenly, tears beginning to well up in his emerald eyes, falling from his lashes as he lets his eyes fall closed to try to keep them at bay.
“Izuku, you can be a police officer, I swear! I’ve taken his business legit. We’re actually helping the cops, and we’re no longer the bad guys. I turned my dad into the cops, and I’ve been helping them round up his old crew. I can’t say much else unless we get out of the public eye, but you can find all of that online.” explains Tomura genuinely, stepping closer, pleading for Izuku to believe him, to trust him the way he used to do.
“You seriously turned him in?” asks Izuku softly, quiet as he opens his eyes, still filling with tears, looking at Tomura, trying to see the truth.
“I did.” says Tomura firmly, genuine as he holds his tight to his patience and hope.
“I- I don’t know if I can believe you. I want to, ‘Mura, I really do, but I-” Izuku’s stuttering, uncertain and hesitant.
Tomura steps forward, he’s done waiting, cups Izuku’s face with both hands, and shuts him up with a kiss that gets out of control quickly. Tomura feels Izuku’s hands clench in his suit, and he brings one arm down to wrap around Izuku’s waist, pulling him closer as they get lost in the feeling of home that settles into their kiss, the way they move as though nothing has changed, as though this is their kiss before leaving again, the kisses that were never ending because they didn’t want to leave each other. When Tomura pulls back, needing to breathe, needing to speak, Izuku’s eyes stay shut like they always did, and his tongue darts out to swipe over his lips, as though he’s tasting Tomura still, savoring him.
“Izuku, I love you, and I want you. I’ve done everything I can to be a person you can love and be with. I don’t want you to give up on your dreams, so I made sure that I wouldn’t be a catalyst to them. If you give me the chance, your childhood best friend is the one I’ve been working with, and he’s right there waiting for me, for us.” explains Tomura quietly, still holding Izuku, but lax, not keeping him, just holding him.
“Well… Let’s go then.” replies Izuku softly, eyes opening to look at Tomura, shining bright with love and happiness. “Let’s be together and be unstoppable the way we always said we would.”
“I love you, Izuku Midoriya.” says Tomura fiercely, a winning grin breaking out on his lips.
“And I love you, Tomura Shigaraki.” replies Izuku, just as fiercely, leaning up to press their lips together harshly before he pulls back and takes one of his hands, intertwining their fingers together. “Let’s go take over.”
Tomura grins as he finds Katsuki Bakugou grinning wildly at them, and he knows, they’re truly going to take over, and they’ll do it properly. His dad didn’t understand how it felt to take over the world legitimately, but he’ll ensure he knows how much better his son and his son’s lover was. He can’t take over the world unless Izuku is standing right next to him, and now that he has him back, nothing can stop them.
