Work Text:
He was alone, and it was quiet.
Since Gwen reappeared in his life so much happened in such a short time, and here he is tied to a punching bag with a chain. If he really tried he probably could have escaped, but that will start another chase when he just thought that he came home and could take a deep breath and talk with his parents. Alas, it seems peace and quiet were not in the cards for him.
His other self, and his… Well, not really his uncle, left him after they started arguing about what to do with him, so he was all alone with his thoughts. Seeing himself as a villain made Miguel’s words from earlier reverberate inside of his head, maybe he really is a mistake after all.
Maybe it was really completely his fault that the original Spider Man died. Maybe without him Spot would not exist and threaten everyone, as much as he wants to believe he is not a kid, maybe he is one and just maybe the real Spider Man would handle everything better without creating a mortal enemy for himself.
He has seen this world too, Brooklyn is in shambles… Being Spider Man robbed this Earth of a protector, took the multiverse out of equilibrium.
But all of that was just the surface, there is a guilt he is afraid to face; Were he not Spider Man would uncle Aaron be alive now? Would his father still be in danger if Peter Parker was the one and only Spider Man?
And… Gwen.
The one that started this chapter of his story.
He really thought the worst his heart would get is the realization that Gwen didn't come for him but for a mission, and he was just an afterthought. Never would he think that now he would be thinking about his own worth in light of Gwen, and others he considered friends taking Miguel’s side and helping to hunt him down.
And after all, where did he belong? Earth-1610 was his home but does he owe it to the people of Earth-42 to stay here and fight crime on behalf of the person that should have been Spider Man in this world? He must have been sent here for a reason; Was that reason an emphasis on his existence being wrong or was it to show him that fate really can change?
If he is destined to be the Prowler, yet avoided that fate in his home world; why is Earth-1610 not crumbling? Could Miguel simply be wrong about that? Maybe suffering from loneliness and loss wasn’t the be all end all about Spider Men?
What started as a self pity session filled Miles with determination, and self assurance about his immediate mission to save his father. No way he is giving up his family without trying, and if he will have even bigger problems as a consequence? He will take it head on and save both the multiverse and his dad.
