Chapter Text
Oh hey, good day to everyone! I hope you're doing well and I welcome you to my work.
If you're here by chance, I hope I can catch your attention with this story, as I love writing and enjoy doing it in my spare time. I have worked really hard on this fanfic, I've started to write it down the 25th of March of this year, which is 2023, for anyone reading in the future, about a day after finishing the original trilogy of AA. So yes, I am a new fan, but I do love this series, so I hope I can represent it in the best way possible. The 5th of June was the day I finished the writing process, even though I had most of the story planned when I began writing it down, so now here I am, posting it.
I've waited to be done with it for two very important reasons: one, for myself, and two, for you readers. If I had started posting it before I was 200% done with it, it would've meant leaving you guys hanging and I don't have a lot of free time to be focusing full-time on the story, so I figured this was the best way possible. But before I start, I wanted to make this introductory chapter to explain a few things to you...
1. As I'm writing this, I have ONLY played through the original trilogy, MEI and I'm on case 2 of MEI:PP (that's AAI and AAI2 for everyone who abbreviates them normally), therefore I would appreciate if you could keep the comments spoiler-free for the GAA duology and for AJ, DD and SoJ, as I know very little about them (like Phoenix is disbarred and adopts a kid, but that's about it) and would like to experience them blind in the following months. In contrast, I believe it is self-explanatory that spoilers for the games I've played will be in the fic. The only case that has huge spoilers is Bridge to the Turnabout, and once you'll start reading, you'll figure out why (also, for the record, I finished thinking about the case's finale way before finishing MEI and a couple of characters I met in those games reminded me of my OCs, but it was a total coincidence. Looking at you, Knightley and Shields).
2. I AM NOT A NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER! I AM ITALIAN, I LIVE IN ITALY AND WAS RAISED HERE! I studied English in school and practiced with TV series and games. Granted, I am pretty confident in my English, I won't deny that, but I can still make some grammatical mistakes. Not to mention, I do write with a mixture of Brit and American English (like I write colours, but also use defense, so you know). I'm going through the fic multiple times, checking dictionaries and asking native speakers myself, but that does not exempt me from making errors, and if I do, PLEASE feel free to correct me as long as you're not being too rude about it. I encourage you to comment in the fic in general, I love reading through comments, but especially when it's for a blunder I make, ok?
3. I wanted to write this fic as though it were an actual case in the game, which means instead of chapters titles, we'll get the "Day 1- Investigations part 1" schtick, chapters are divided as if they were save points in the game, character names will be displayed as they speak like a script and the point of view follows whoever's thoughts we can hear, which will be marked with " this symbol, except when it's a quote or the character is reading something, otherwise it's their thoughts, during cross-examinations, there'll be the HOLD IT and OBJECTIONs when they present evidence or press the witness, and even the dialogue options if you fail stuff like that (I didn't include many, just the ones I thought were funny), when a new piece of evidence or character gets introduced, I'll put the description or profile right away, you get the gist of it. Also, it is a fancase, so it'll focus more on investigating and trial rather than anything, but I did put some scenes that exempt from that.
4. All art I'll put in this fic is mine, unless I state otherwise. You can find me on nial_vessal on Instagram, where I also started the tag for the fanfic (#turnaboutfaçade), so any art you'll want to make about it, you can tag me and post it with that hashtag, so I can see it. My DMs are also open if you want to chat, and I also plan on linking some music through the chapters that wasn't made by me, but I think is cool and I'll obviously credit the creator. Also, I tried putting an image in this chapter, but if it doesn't show, tell me how I can fix it, I'm new to this site...
5. Being that I'm not from the USA, I'm sorry, but I will write the days and months like an Italian would, so remember, it's day/month, not the opposite. It won't be that confusing once we pass the first day, but I'll still warn you here to make sure you know in advance.
6. I do plan to post every week, possibly on the same day, but if I can't do so, I apologise in advance. Remember the fic is done, though, so the chapter arrives eventually. I just want to post stuff apart a week to see if I can sneak in some new art or even just to leave you guessing for a while. I know, that's evil, I understand that :3
7. Last thing, I promise: yes, there will be OCs in this case and I really hope you will like them, I've spent an absurd amount of time making sure to write them as if they really belonged in an AA game, including their designs.
And this concludes my very long ramble about the fic, so if I didn't bore you to death and you're still reading, here is what we're going to do: I'm going to leave you here and get ready to post the first chapter. In the meantime, enjoy the cover and logo I did for the fic and I hope you'll have fun reading it when I start posting!
PS: Everyone, be respectful in the comments, both towards me an towards other readers. We're all here to have a good time, ok? Cool.
Nial out!
