Work Text:
It was a weird feeling that ventured through Romani Archaman ´s body.
After the most difficult battle yet, Fujimaru Ritsuka was finally able to clear the seventh singularity Babylonia which only left them with the final one.
He should only feel happiness towards this outcome.
But…
`The final one, huh..`
Since no one could say, when they would be able to rest again, he had ordered the team to rest for the night.
Though that wasn’t really the only reason, why he wanted them away from the control room.
It was selfish.
Really selfish.
In all honestly, Romani knew this moment would come sooner or later.
After all, this was Chaldea ´s goal, right?
This was, what they had worked for , right?
However, looking back those ten years…
Slight frustration flared up in his body.
He only wanted to be human. Why couldn’t he just get his wish without this outcome?
`No, thinking about that again doesn’t change anything.`
Still, as he sat in his chair, alone, a cold cup of coffee next to him on the table, he felt himself going sentimental.
Sentimentality, something he only really started to acknowledge as Romani Archaman.
Time seemed to stop as he reminisced about all the adventures he was able to witness.
The singularities Fujimaru Ritsuka was able to clear.
Of course, there were times when things went out of control.
Moments, when he cursed himself for not having his power anymore.
Moments he experienced emotions like anger, sadness and even grief. Emotions, he had never needed to deal with before, but that seemed to come so natural to Romani.
Emotions, that reminded him he was still human.
Romani sighed into the empty room.
Just because he knew what he will eventually need to do , doesn’t mean he feels completely prepared for it.
Still, it ´s not that he fears death - not at all.
What he fears is loosing what he was finally able to archive:
Friends, or rather companions.
Back then, he never really thought he would be able to work together with anyone really.
He never needed to do that.
But now….
…he will really miss Da Vinci.
That woman had really turned his world upside down the moment she was summoned.
Working together with her, drinking coffee with her, just talking with her sparked in him more feelings than he ever thought he would feel.
He really liked Da Vinci.
If the circumstances would be different, he would even allow himself to say he has fallen in love with that stupid genius.
But…now’s not the time for love.
For him, it was never time for that.
He only now recognized the tears falling from his exhausted eyes.
Strangely enough, however, he couldn’t bring himself to stop them either.
He just let the rare tears fall from his eyes.
After all, this will be the first and the last time he will allow himself to cry.
Eventually, his silent crying managed to stop his doubt as well.
After all, he didn’t have a choice.
Well, he never really had a choice.
Goethia needed to be defeated. The world needed to be saved.
And he was ready to die for this to happen.
Of course, giving up what he was able to experience the last ten years was painful, but his wish alone was what caused all of this in the first place.
He just hoped, that Fujimaru, Mash and Leonardo will eventually be able to forgive him for what he had done.
For what his shadow had done.
Though, isn’t it cruel he wishes for their forgiveness even though he will never be able to forgive himself?
Well, at the end, he will sadly not be able to see what will happen with them.
Romani had a vague idea that Goethia might not be the last quest Fujimaru will have to conquer, but he is certain their master will manage everything that will come in his way.
After all, he managed all the seven singularities as well.
Slowly , a little smile crawled up the doctor ´s face.
At least, what he is definitely certain of, those last ten years have not been for nothing.
He was thankful for the experiences he was able to receive.
Thankful for having met someone he was able to put his trust in.
Thankful for helping humanity in any way.
“Thank you for being able to feel human”
It felt right to him to say that out loud.
Even though no one would hear these words.
And as he still sat in his chair, the cold cup of coffee still next to him standing on the table, he felt content.
After all, Solomon never feared death.
And Romani doesn’t fear death anymore.
This is the beginning of the end for Solomon, Goethia and Romani Archaman.
