Zero 0.0 - Elizabeth Iris Habetler
August 2008
Despite the best efforts of Elizabeth Iris Habetler, she was left dumbfounded at the news of her daughter’s death. Not only did her magically gifted daughter, Annette Rose Hebert, perish in a car accident, but her husband as well. Sixty-two long years, burying her own husband, and a successful career in Magecraft could not prepare her for the pain she felt from this tragic loss.
There was a silver lining, however. Their daughter, Taylor Hebert, survived the two. Although the girl was only thirteen, Elizabeth was sure she would make due as her heir. Annette had long since given up the mantle and left the world of Magi, but Taylor would surely be as gifted.
Elizabeth glanced down at the mute teenager who sat beside her at the funeral. A quiet shock had gripped the young girl since news of her parents’ demise hit. The girl would recover; she had to recover. Elizabeth would make sure the girl would recover.
After the funeral, Taylor was placed under Elizabeth’s care indefinitely. She sold her property in New York and kept the two of them in Brockton Bay. The Mage's Association was planning something for the city, and she would be there for it. Of course keeping Taylor in mostly familiar territory was a plus. For Taylor, her heir.
The true silver lining? A second chance. A second chance to groom an heir. A second chance to be the mother she should have been to Annette. And this time she would not fail, on her name as Elizabeth Iris Habetler, Pride of the Clock Tower.
