Chapter Text
Poppy partridge sighs, her large feathered wings coming up to her face, finally.. she got all of her little ones down for a nap..
“Oh what an eventful day!” She says, going into the connected kitchen and begins to make herself some hot chai tea, the sound of it brewing is the only sound heard except for the occasional snoring coming from the living room, each little one slept differently, Barnaby only seemed to like sleeping in the playpen, Julie and Sally both insisted on sleeping on top of him, poor dear.. Frank and Eddie were sleeping in a crib together, Howdy preferred the couch, and finally her youngest, Wally.. he had to sleep in one of those chairs that swing back and forth and plays a lullaby, poor baby couldn’t sleep without it..
The little ones were all fed, bathed and now napping , Poppy sighs, maybe she could finally sleep now as well… she knew when she adopted the babies it would be hard, but she hadn’t known it would be this hard.. oh she remembered the day she saw them..the adoption centers window messy from all the little hand prints, she sees her three oldest babies playing together in the corner, Barnaby, Howdy, and Eddie, all so drastically different yet the same… some of her younger babies were doing their own thing, Sally for example was playing dress up by herself near a little chest, Julie was playing dolls with some other little girl that had gotten adopted a few hours earlier, her new parents had just gotten done filling out the paperwork, Frank…well..he was trying his best to read the picture book, she smiles in remembrance.
And Wally…well his adoption was a few days ago, she had been passing by the adoption center with the children to go to the shop, she had needed supplies for the next few weeks for the babies, as well as some groceries, she stopped once more to stare into that same window, there in the corner of the playroom was a bassinet, she could see it rocking softly, little yellow hands could be seen trying to pull the mobile off the wall that had been playing soft music, there didn’t seem to be that many children left inside..a few playing on the floor throughout the room, Poppy saw the baby get frustrated and begin to cry, Poppy leads the group of children inside to the front counter, the clerk who had helped with their adoption a few months prior smiled at them, Poppy explained to the clerk that she would be right back as she walked into the playroom, she walks into the corner towards the bassinet, picking up the frustrated baby with ease, she shushes him gently and begins to bounce him quietly, the baby calms down and begins to grab onto Poppys soft feathers, curious, that was when Poppy decided Wally would be adopted into the growing family.
A small tear slid down her face as she thought about all of her babies lovingly, she takes a long sip of her chai tea before sitting it back down on the counter, she begins to prepare some dinner for the little ones, a nice warm bottle and some yogurt puffs for Wally.. and some Mac N Cheese and Dinosaur Nuggets for the rest of them..
Thinking back to her children she kept wondering what they thought of her, was she doing enough to provide for the little angels? Oh dear.. maybe some new toys?, but what kind of toys..hmm…teddy bears are alright for all ages.. so maybe a couple teddys each?, Barnaby, Howdy, and Eddie are all 5 and 6, Julie and Sally are 3, Frank is 4, and lastly Wally is 1, perfect!, she’ll have to order them!”
