Chapter Text
Buck was completely in shock, surely he was not hearing this correctly there would be no way Bobby would lie to him and tell him it was the Chief's that were afraid of him getting hurt again while he was on the blood thinners and in fact it is Bobby himself that is the one who is afraid.
Buck gets up and is about to leave when Bobby stops him.
"Buck please I need you to understand" Bobby says.
"Oh I understand all right Captain Nash you're the one who thinks they know best for me when in fact it's your fault my leg got crushed" Buck says.
"Buck" Athena says.
"Athena I don't want to fall out with you but it's true so don't Buck me" Buck says.
Athena knows Buck is right as much as she wants to defend her husband she knows that she and Bobby are to blame.
"Buck, I don't want you getting hurt," Bobby says.
"So you treat me differently from everyone else let me remind you that I passed my recertification and I broke records so I am allowed back to work" Buck says getting angry.
"Buck you are on blood thinners" Bobby says.
"And we have three fully trained paramedics who are on our team who can keep an eye on me and if anything happens they have the training to patch me up" Buck says.
"Buck I'm scared for you, I don't want you getting hurt and you are like a son to me so a part of me was thinking that I can't lose another son" Bobby says.
"You are not my father and to be honest that's your own issue to sort out but you are my Captain that's all and I already have a dad who I know would never pull what you have just done" Buck says.
Hearing Buck say these words hurts Bobby and he thought Buck felt the same.
"Buck Bobby was just worried about you that's why he lied" Athena says.
"No disrespect Athena but this has nothing to do with you" Buck says.
Athena is stunned normally Buck doesn't mind her giving some advice but the way he looks she lets it slide.
Buck knows Athena is trying to calm the situation down but he is tired of people telling him what to do and honestly he is sick of being a pushover.
He feels betrayed and Buck has the right to feel like this so he doesn't feel guilty about storming out of Bobby and Athena’s House and the look of hurt on Bobby's face.
Buck heads home and unlocks the door and heads inside.
"Bucky your back" Chris says, coming up to hug him.
"Chris, what are you still doing up at this time of night?" Buck asks, looking at the clock on the wall and seeing it showing 23:00.
"He had a nightmare," Eddie says, coming into the living room.
"Oh baby, why don't you come and sit on the couch" Buck says.
Christopher lets Buck pick him up and then go over to the coach and Buck lets his son rest his head on his chest knowing that after a nightmare he likes to hear Buck's heartbeat as it calms him down.
It only takes ten minutes and Christopher is fast asleep and both Eddie and Buck agree to let Chris sleep in their bed.
Buck and Eddie had began dating a month after Eddie joined the 118 and it only took 3 months for Buck to move in with Eddie and when Shannon came back into their lives Eddie made it clear he didn't trust her and he said it was down to Christopher if he wanted any contact with her and when Christopher saw her he told his mother that he didn't want to ever see her again as he will not forgive her for leaving in the middle of the night and not staying in contact.
It broke Shannon's heart but she understood and said to Christopher when he is ready to forgive her she will be waiting.
Eddie and Chris spent Christmas in El Paso and they took Buck with them and Eddie managed to repair his relationship with his parents who took some responsibility on how they treated Eddie when he was growing up and said they will do better and be better parents and when they met Buck they were completely in love with him and were so happy that Eddie found a great person not only in his personal life but also in his professional life.
No one at the 118 knew they were together as they didn't want to tell them but they did go to headquarters and file the appropriate paperwork saying they were in a relationship.
When Buck got his leg crushed by the firetruck it terrified Eddie as he thought he was going to lose the love of his life and hearing Buck screaming was tearing his heart into pieces but he kept things professional.
When Buck had is embolism everyone thought it was because he pushed himself to hard but that was not the case the reason was the metal rods in leg had caused the blood to clot and Buck was lucky he was with Eddie and Christopher when it happened as they called 9-1-1 and got him to the hospital and when the rest of the team found out they said Buck needs to stop pushing himself and give it time.
It turns out Maddie had told Chimney that Buck had an embolism had told him that he pushed himself too hard and Chimney went and told Bobby and Hen everything so when Buck came to talk to Bobby he told Buck that he shouldn't have pushed himself and when Buck asked how he knew Bobby said that Chimney informed him and Buck told his captain maybe Chimney should get his facts right as it was down to the rods in his leg that was the issue.
The biggest people who were telling Buck to stop pushing himself and saying it was his fault were Maddie and Chimney and Eddie was getting sick of them blaming his boyfriend and when Eddie brought that up he was dismissed and Maddie said she knew what was better for Buck and when Eddie said that she hasn't seen him in years she just ignored it.
Eddie was starting to see a different side to both Maddie and Chimney and he didn't like it.
When Christopher and Buck were involved in the tsunami that broke Eddie completely as he had told Buck to get out of the house and to stop moping around and Christopher never felt sorry for himself so when Eddie saw both his son and boyfriend at the VA hospital he rushed over to them and held them close.
Christopher told Eddie that Buck had saved him when he fell in the water when the second wave hit and how Buck searched for hours for him and when he found Christopher with this family Buck was completely in tears as he thought he lost him forever and when the saw the bus and the driver said he was taking people to the VA hospital Buck asked if the guy had space for them both and the guy said hop on.
After hearing what Christopher told him Eddie made sure to let his boyfriend know that he is not to blame for their son getting lost in the tsunami and he knows Buck would fight for him and he is so proud of him.
It took a while for Buck to believe Eddie's words and it helped that Eddie's parents felt the same way and reassured him but what Buck believed it more was Eddie's Abula and Tia Pepa showing him the love and support he needed.
It took a few days for Buck and Christopher to open up to Eddie about what happened but with the help of therapy they spoke about it and they agreed to always be honest with each other on how they are feeling.
Buck had accepted the job as the fire marshall and Eddie knew he didn't want it but the team got so involved and told Buck to take it and when he is ready then he can come back.
Buck wasn't happy with being a fire marshall so when he told Eddie he was going to go talk to Bobby and get his help but looking at how Buck is acting things didn't go too well.
"How did it go at Bobby's?" Eddie asks.
"I found out that Bobby is the one stopping me from coming back and he is worried because he sees me as a son" Buck answers his boyfriend.
"Can Bobby do that?" Eddie asks.
"No he can't," Buck says.
"So what are you going to do?" Eddie asks.
"To be honest I'm not happy with Bobby and for him to lie to me has seriously shown me that I can no longer trust him so I think I might call my dad and see if he has a space on his team for me in New York" Buck says.
"You mean us," Eddie says.
"You seriously want to move again?" Buck asks.
"Evan I love you and I know Christopher loves you and you are my whole future so where you go we go" Eddie says.
"I love you too Eddie and I can't imagine my life without you and Christopher in it" Buck says.
"Good because you wont have too" Eddie says.
Buck goes into the bedroom to check on Christopher and to make sure he is still asleep.
Eddie can't believe Bobby lied to the team for weeks he asked his captain when Buck was coming back and he got told that the Chief's are worried about him working with blood thinners so until he is off them he has to wait but in fact it's Bobby who was worried and Buck never gave any indication that he saw Bobby has a dad.
When Eddie and Buck got together Buck told him everything about his past and how his parents didn't care about him and how when they were in New York for Buck's 10th birthday they went to a fire station and left him there and walked away and the Captain was angry that these people would do that to their little boy and once he got to know more about the boy he felt some sort of connection towards him and he phoned his wife at the time and she came and met Buck and they could see that he deserved a family and it helped that the Captain son got Buck out of his shell and spoke to him and made him laugh a lot and a few weeks later he was adopted by the new york family.
Buck never spoke about his past after that and he said to Eddie that he had the right to know but after that he refused to talk more about it and when Maddie showed up Buck was angry with how she broke in to his apartment but according to Maddie that was fine but Buck told her to never do that ever again and it may be OK in her mind but she committed a crime and he will report her if she ever does anything like that again and to grab her bags as he doesn't have the space for her so she can stay in a hotel and once he told her off he went to his apartment manager and told him he had no right to let Maddie into his apartment as he didn't know who she was and just because she said she was his sister didn't make it true so next time check with him.
Buck came back from checking on Christopher and took out his phone and dialed his dad's number and he got the out of service tone and it made Buck frown.
Buck tried his brother and got the same thing so he messaged him on Instagram and asked him or dad to phone him.
Buck got changed into his old LAFD t-shirt and sweatpants and he joined his boyfriend on the couch and took the beer Eddie handed him and he just relaxed and he thought a lot about the way he has been treated at the 118 and the way Bobby,Hen and Chimney treated him and he realized that he was always treated like a joke or penalized for something he did but others would get away with the same thing and even when he looks back at his first interaction with Athena and the way she spoke to him and Bobby allowed it and he should've told her that she can not speak to a member of his team like that and he will deal with it but no he just let her do it.
Buck's phone goes off and he picks it up from the table and sees a number he doesn't recognise.
"That's an Austin number," Eddie says.
"I don't know anyone in Texas," Buck says, sounding confused.
"Well someone knows you" Eddie says.
"I'll put it on loudspeaker," Buck says.
Buck presses the answer button and then presses the loudspeaker button.
"Hello," Buck says.
"Hello Evan" a voice says.
Buck knows that voice and his face breaks into a smile.
"Hi dad," Buck says.
