Summary
Esteemed writers, poets, artists, calligraphers, and even beautiful young women have been committing suicide– seemingly at the prime of their lives. But suspiciously, their bodies always go missing after they are found and before the funeral. Concerned that he’s being deprived of future gods by a malicious actor, and desperate for more personnel following the Jun Wu disaster, Xie Lian (and by extension Hua Cheng) are sent by the interim-Heavenly-Emperor-who-would-very-much-like-to-retire, Pei Ming, to investigate.
But the investigation brings up some old insecurities in Xie Lian. Hua Cheng is always devoted and loving to him, but would he prefer a Crown Prince Xie Lian – a Xie Lian during the time regarded by most to be his best – to worship?
