"I'd kill for you, man," Jon murmurs into Steve's neck. "You know that, right?"
Steve's too tired to say anything. He stares at him with those wide doe eyes that used to be Jonathan's whole world, when they were kids in the woods.
"I know you would, too. You don't have to say."
Steve smiles just a bit, soft and tender, just like in the woods. Jon would have given anything to see that all the time.
As they are right now, quiet and curled up in Steve's fancy bed, his smile still lights up the room.
Steve nudges Jonathan with his shoulder. He looks like he wants to tell him something he can't say in words.
"You can tell me tomorrow," Jon says. "It's alright."
Steve's already gone when he wakes up.
