Albus Percival Wolfric Brian Dumbledore is absolutely horrible and here's why; he raised Harry only to be a soldier, chasing away any childhood Harry could dream of having. He has little to no compassion for feelings (specifically Harrys.) He tells Harry nothing, although he deserves to know what's going about. And finally, although this matches with the other reasons, knew about how the Dursleys treated him, although let him be neglected and mistreated because it was ‘safer.’
On the first reason: him raising Harry as a soldier. He brought up Harry to die, a lamb to the slaughter. He only ever trained Harry for what was to come, that was the entire point of his character. He also knew how dangerous Harry's life would be, yet did close to nothing to help him in the first 5 books, other than giving him advice. Especially in the 5th. Yes, he did have Snape give him occlumency lessons, and helped him when the DA was found by Umbridge, but he ignored all of Harry's other attempts to contact him. I know he was busy, but he could have at least given him a word.
That resonates with the fact that he has no care for Harry's feelings. He didn’t let him down easily whatsoever when telling him like, anything at all. He barely ever told Harry what he needed to hear, and left Harry to do most of the tasks he could do himself. He ignores most of the other students, favoriting Harry. Hermione and Ron barely have any interaction with Dumbo pretty much the entire series, which had to affect them somehow. He also ignored Harry the entire 5th book, which was mentioned in the last paragraph.
On the 3rd reason: he never told Harry anything unless it would affect Harry sooner rather than later, giving Harry little to no time to think or process the information given. He always, without fail, saved it until the last minute. Such as keeping the Order of the Phoenix from him. Harry hadn’t known much of anything about the order until months after Ron and Hermione. Which I understand with Ron, as he moved into Grimmauld, but why couldn’t it have been kept secret with Hermione too? Why just Harry? The little information he got was from Sirius. Just saying, if something that could help save me and other people's lives, I would want to be told immediately.
Finally, Dumbo knew about the Dursleys and their treatment of Harry. He knew they neglected Harry, as Harry's Hogwarts letter was addressed to ‘The cupboard under the stairs’ and if that isn’t a sign of mistreatment, I don’t know what is. He also knew how much Petunia hated magic and all associated things/people, yet thought it a good idea to place a young wizard with them. He did nothing about it because it was ‘safer’ because of the blood wards, yet Hogwarts is supposed to be one of the safest places in the wizarding world. The fact that Number 4 is supposedly safer for Harry than Hogwarts just makes me doubt school security.
Down to the point, Dumbledore is horrible, although important to plot. Still he’s so shitty to the kids around him, and he was probably only hired for headmaster because he is smart and skilled in magical ways. Although whoever hired him obviously didn’t see how well he could treat kids. Object if you’d like. I despise Albus Dumbledore, and no one can change my mind.
