I woke up from the sound of my alarm, turning myself to look at the time. My eyes still hazy, I blinked a few times, 6:28 . After a while, I finally decided to get up and get ready for the day. It was my first day at a new school in Japan. My family moved here to be closer to my ‘grandparents’ but I just think they needed a break from everything.
I stood up from my bed, walking over to the window. I was in a neighborhood somewhere. Despite growing up here as a child. I could barely remember the roads now. It took a while to get used to the language, accidentally speaking in english a few times at a cafe. But other than that, I was pretty accustomed to the lifestyle already.
My parents are both Japanese. Despite moving out of the country, they tried their best to teach me the culture and language. It wasn't a bore, honestly I enjoyed learning about Japan, which made me decide to learn other countries' cultures as well. But that's besides the point.
It's my first day, and I wanted to wake up super early to get a headstart.
Walking towards the closet, finding my perfectly neat uniform folded nicely. I turn to look at my bedside. ‘Fuck, my phone’ I immediately went to find it, wherever it may be. Realizing it was near the window charging. I don't remember putting that there? Well anyways.
My grandparents were super nice, even lending us their spare house to live in for the time being. I went downstairs, smelling the aroma of pancakes. “Morning mom” sitting down at the dining table.
“Morning sweetie, are you ready?” looking busy with flipping pancakes, I poured myself some orange juice. “Yep. I got everything ready!”
She finally turned around, setting the last batch of pancakes on the plate. Grabbing the syrup in the fridge she sat beside me. “Where's dad?” I asked, before stuffing my face with pancakes.
“Oh, he already went to work early.”
‘Ah, already? What a shame’
I finished up my breakfast, went and put on my shoes. “Bye mom!”
“Bye dear” She waved back as I went on my way to PK Academy.
I arrived at the school entrance, greeted by my homeroom teacher. Showing me where my room would be, and showed me to my ‘shoe locker’. Apparently that's a thing, well I had no problems with it.
As the first bell rang, she led me to my classroom. I looked through the window and saw a lot of students talking. I was kinda nervous not gonna lie but sometimes you gotta man up. As I waited by the door, waiting for the class to settle down.
“Class, Today we have a new student joining us. Please give her a warm welcome” She said as she looked at me, telling me it was time to come in.
I went inside, a few eyes following my every move. It felt weird and powerful in a way. “Hello, my name is [L/N] [F/N]. I hope we can be very good friends.” Hey, that wasn't as bad as I thought. As I finished my introduction, I wandered my eyes across the room. It landed on a few interesting people, one of them was practically shining. And the other one just had a weird face.
“Okay dear, you can go sit next to Saiki Kusuo. Saiki, will you please raise your hand.”
I looked for their hand, and it landed on some dude with pink hair and lollipop hairpins. Even weirder. As I walked to my seat, I heard the teacher starting their discussion behind me.
Saiki’s POV
‘Good grief, another one? Haven't you guys had enough of these transfer students. They're getting out of hand.’ I put my head down on the desk. All these thoughts gave me a headache.
‘Oy! Kid Watch out!’ A man yelled from his truck
I jump up, fully awake. ‘What a weird dream. Wait, a dream?’ Normal people don't usually care for their dreams, as they don't have any reason to. It doesn't have meaning, to them at least.
My name is Saiki Kusuo, and I'm a Psychic. But I'm not just that, I have other powers too. Such as clairvoyance, pyrokinesis, levitation. And precognition is one of them. ‘Good grief, This is such a bother.’
“Class, Today we have a new student joining us. Please give her a warm welcome” I turn my gaze to the front, it seems like the Teacher finally arrived.
As I watched the door, the new student finally arrived. ‘Wow she's pretty cute!’ ‘Hm she's okay, not as good as Teruhashi though..’ ‘She seems nice, I’ll talk to her later’ countless thoughts started pouring in. The one thing I noticed was that none of them were from the new student.
“Hello, my name is [L/N] [F/N]. I hope we can be very good friends.”
How strange, To recall, I stated that I had powers right. And one of them is unfortunately X-ray. Which meant that every single person here is just muscle and bones to me. But as the new student introduced herself. My X-ray wasnt working on her either.
She had [h/l] [h/c] hair, and about average height. She seemed ‘normal’ so why couldn't my powers work on her.
“Okay dear, you can go sit next to Saiki Kusuo. Saiki, will you please raise your hand.”
‘Good grief, How lucky am I.’ I raised my hand, before waiting a moment to put it down.
She proceeded to walk beside me and sit down, surprisingly without making any small talk all throughout class.
‘You're definitely something..’
The rest of class went off without a hitch. It was lunch time now. And Nendou and Kaidou were already bugging me to go with them to the cafeteria.
‘Good grief’
“Hey Saiki, should we invite the new girl?”
“Who?”
“[L/N] you idiot. Weren't you listening?!”
“No”
It was annoying seeing these two argue over and over, as I revert my eyes to [L/N]. She was talking to Yumehara and Mera. ‘Hm. Seems like she doesn't need help fitting in.’
YOUR POV
“Hello! My name is Yumehara Chiyo!”
“And I'm Mera Chisato. Nice to meet you [L/N]”
I was staring at them, maybe this wasn't so bad after all. “Ah, hello.. Do you need something?”
“Yes! We wanna invite you to lunch.”
Chapter 2: Close call
Chapter Text
“Oh.. with me?” I said, a bit confused, people here are so friendly. It was kinda weird actually. But I reluctantly agreed. It didn't sound so bad, beats sitting here alone.
I followed them closely, as we walked into the cafeteria I saw a few students [boys cough] gather around a table near the middle.
“Hey what's going on there?” pointing towards said table.
“Oh that must be Kokomi-san. Come on [L/N]!” Yumehara said, I followed them.
As we fought for our lives, trying not to get squished by the fucking crowd. Boy was that stuffy, they were stinky and yelling. We finally got to sit down.
“Ah! Chiyo, Mera.. finally you're here..” She said as she turned towards me. Oh she was that shining girl from earlier. Were the boys gathering around because of her?
“You must be [L/N] correct? Nice to meet you finally!” shaking my hand. She seemed really nice. And she had that smile on her face.
“Right! That's me.. You must be Teruhashi.. Nice to meet you as well..”
Lunch continued on, and the four of us got along really well. And luckily for us the crowd also died down after one of the teachers was called down to settle the problem.
“Finally peace..”
“So, [L/N] have you seen anyone that caught your eye?” Yumehara said, making me choke on my food. “Eh? No. Not really, no one here is my type honestly..” I shrugged, continuing to eat my food.
“What!! No way, there must be someone! I don't believe it!” Wow she's really passionate about this I thought, “Is it someone from our class? Is that why you feel shy to tell?” Her eyes turned love-crazy. It was actually pretty scary.
“N-no I swear, I don't find them any interesting..” I replied a bit quieter. “Eh!! I could never live that way!? So that must mean you have never gotten a boyfriend right?!” she asked. “Uh.. no..”
“Well! Worry not [L/N] Kokomi-san and I will help you!”
‘You really don't need to.’
.
Class ended, and students are now dying to get home, or that's just me. I didn't wanna get hooked into Yumehara and Teruhashi’s matchmaking gig.. It would've been fine if Mera went with, but she said she had to go work. Salute to her.
Saiki’s POV
‘Good grief.’ I managed to avoid Nendou and Kaidou from dragging me to the ramen shop. But it seems like my luck won't get any better. Maybe God has favorites.
“[L/N] What are you getting?” a familiar voice spoke, just behind me. Great, one wrong move and they’ll notice I'm here. “I’ll get the coffee jelly, I heard it's really good.”
“Oh! Sure, What about you Kokomi-san?” Yumehara asked, “Huh, I’ll get the Peach cake”
‘Coffee jelly huh? She has good taste.’ After a while of contemplating, I decided not to leave, besides. I haven't gotten my food yet; it would be a waste to leave now. And especially risky. [That's what he told himself]
“Here you go, Sir.” The waitress set down the jelly on the table, and just as quickly left. I finally was able to eat. But I guess God had other plans, about to take a bite, somehow a table napkin dropped on top of my head. ‘What the-’
Gasp. “S-saiki! I'm so sorry! I didn't notice you were sitting there!”
‘Good grief.’
“Eh?! Saiki-kun? You were there all this time, why didn't you say anything?” Yumehara walked to my table. “Can we sit here instead?” she asked. I didn't say anything, and apparently that meant yes.
‘Good grief’
“H-hello Saiki, I'm so sorry about that by the way...”
'So, it was your doing?’
YOUR POV
‘Seems like he ordered Coffee Jelly as well.’
“Hi, you must be Saiki. Nice to meet you” He didn't look away, he just nodded. Way too focused on the jelly that was placed in front of him.
“So, Saiki, why are you here alone.. Or were you meeting with someone?!” Teruhashi said a bit nervous, It didn't take a genius to know that Teruhashi liked Saiki, but that made me wonder what's so special about him.‘
I mean no offense, but he looks ordinary.’ I thought as I continued to eat my Coffee Jelly.
“No” he replied. A sigh of relief from Teruhashi, I looked at Saiki. He was enjoying his food, and he had this cute face. But aside from that, the more I looked at him. The more he looked familiar.
“Have we met before?”
He stopped eating and looked at me and shrugged. Huh, I must've mistaken him for some other pink dude. “Must've been someone else, sorry.”
After finishing up, we all said goodbye. And I found out that me and Saiki both go the same way, so It was pretty awkward at first. But the silence felt nice, comfortable even.
On the way there we passed by a park; it had a bunch of kids on the playground. Using the swings and going down the slide. I recognized this place, I played here often when I was a kid. It still had those jaded flowers on the corner, and the large tree in the middle.
I was still admiring the flowers and leaves, seeing them fall carefully when the wind forces its way through. I didn't notice someone yelling at me to get out of the way, until I got pulled back and fell down on the concrete. I looked up and saw a truck that seemingly had lost control of the breaks.
Thankfully, the driver was safe. The airbag completely protected him from the impact. I didn't even realize that it was Saiki who had pulled me away from the street. After I went to check on the driver, I went back to look for Saiki.
But he already left, Huh.
Chapter 3: Project egg
Summary:
Egg project at school, where you need to take care of it like its a baby.
Chapter Text
As I opened the front door, I saw my father waiting in the dining room reading a newspaper. “How was school honey? Did you make any new friends?” My mother spoke while cooking.
“A few.” setting my bag down and taking off my shoes, putting them with the rest. Gently putting my bag down, I walked towards the table. “What about class, how was it?” your father continued. Making me remember what happened just a moment ago.
“Oh, it went well.” I replied, as my mother turned around, putting down the food. “Well, tell us all about it hm? I don't suppose there’s a boy, right?” I knew she was just teasing, although I couldn't help but set my thoughts on a certain pink haired boy.
She noticed I wasn't responding. “Oh! How exciting, I remember when I first fell in love.” She teased, my father grunted and folded the newspaper neatly before setting it down. “Now, I don't mind you dating, but I hope you know what to prioritize” He replied.
“Dad.” I stared at him. “I know honey, I just don't want you to get hurt.” I sighed, he just wanted what's best for me. I can't hate him for that. “Yeah but, that's not what I meant. He’s just a friend”
“Well I’d like to meet these friends of yours one day” My mother spoke, which made me think. Does Saiki think of me as his friend? After dinner, I grabbed my books and went upstairs to my room.
‘Tsk, what a pain. First day of school and there's already homework.’ as I set down my books and sat down on the chair.
Flipping through the pages, I couldn't help but think about Saiki. Although he had denied ever meeting me, he reminded me a lot of my childhood friend.
THE NEXT MORNING
I groaned, as I turned off my alarm. ‘Another day.’ as I went up to my closet to pick today's uniform. As I finished wearing my socks, I went downstairs to see my mom making eggs and bacon. She noticed me down the stairs, “Ah, morning dear. Come sit down and eat.”
She motioned me to sit down, as she placed my food on my plate. As I ate through my food, while my mother went off to do something else. “Oh, by the way I'm going somewhere today, and I might go home late.” as I continued eating, I nodded.
“Wer ar yo gong-” I tried to reply while still currently munching on some eggs. “Ah tsk, don't eat with your mouth full. I'm going to buy some groceries, and after that I'm going to a Parents meeting with the neighborhood.” She said as she grabbed her keys and coat. “Lock the door on your way out, Love you!”
After breakfast, I immediately got myself ready to go out, putting on my shoes. As I walked to school, I bumped into Saiki. ‘Ah. Should I walk with him? Never mind, let's go’ catching up to Saiki before slowing down to match his pace.
“Saiki! Goodmorning!” I waved to him as I continued walking ahead. ‘A simple good morning would be alright, seems like he doesn't like people.’
SAIKIS POV
‘What a pain.’ I didn't think we’d bump into each other, without me hearing her thoughts, I couldn't prepare myself. Whatever, I just hope she doesn't see me. No that's stupid, she obviously did. I felt her eyes stare behind me. ‘Good grief’
She walked faster to catch up to me, before steading herself beside me just enough to see her. “Saiki! Goodmorning!” she waved, and without another second she went off walking ahead on her own.
‘ You're not as bad as the others I suppose’
As we arrived in the class, she went ahead and sat down on her seat. I expected her to spark up a conversation once I sat down, but she only continued to browse on her phone. Occasionally greeting other classmates that passed by. Yumehara barged in, immediately going to her “[L/N]! Are you free today? We could go to the mixer later if you're up for it!” as she put her hands down on her table. “Sure, who else is going?” I listened intriguingly
‘The mixer huh?’
𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟
“Alright students, for this you need to find a pair.” The teacher instructed. And after immediately countless boys went up to Teruhashi, asking her to be their partner. Which made the other girls just as upset, It was overwhelming, even for her. So the Teacher called it off.
“I- Okay, it seems like you guys are having a hard time picking. I’ll just pick it for you.” A few cheers and groans are heard. Personally I didn't mind, just as long as we do this project immediately. Although I had this feeling that things wouldn't go my way.
“Okay, last off Teruhashi and-” It was suspenseful. There were only 2 options left, Me or Hairo. It was a battle, a battle I didnt wanna lose. [Don't you mean win?] Anyhow, the last one would be paired up with [L/N] and it seemed like the better option.
“-Saiki.” as I released a huge sigh.
‘ Good grief’
God does have a favorite. As I lazily walked towards Teruhashi who seemed to have the widest smile written on her face. She clasped her hands, “Saiki-kun! I'm so glad to have you as my partner” 'I'm not’ I sighed.
‘What a pain, I wouldn't have minded to be w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ partners with you instead.’ [What was that?]
Chapter 4: Love and War
Summary:
'Credits to weirdosimp on discord!! Tysm for helping me figure out what to write'
Chapter Text
"Okay everyone listen up. This project requires you to take care of an egg, just like a baby." The teacher then proceeded to give everyone their own egg. "You are graded by how well you take care of this egg." He continued, "I'll check your progress next week."
'Wow. Are they seriously making us parents for an egg?'
"S-saiki-kun, here..." she handed me the egg. "I think for the first day, you should take care of Winnie" I stared at her.
'Winnie? Did she name the egg? already?'
"I- uh... I named our egg Winnie. Is that okay.?" she looked away after she said that as she fiddled with her thumbs. 'Good grief' I took the egg out of her hands and grabbed my backpack.
'What a pain'
YOUR POV
"Hey [L/N] I haven't introduced myself, I'm Hairo Kineshi." he said, holding out his hand for me to shake. "Nice to meet you! I'm glad you're my partner, you seem responsible." He complimented, "Ah, thank you. I feel the same, you would be a very good parent." I smiled.
After a while of chatting, it was my task to take care of Miya for the first few days, since Hairo wouldn't be able to take care of it since he has his practice.
Miya is what we both agreed on the name for the egg. I actually appreciate Hairo going along with this. I heard some students are taking it less seriously. I mean I can't blame them; it's an egg.
After class, I carried the egg to the cafeteria. Seeing as it was irresponsible to leave it in the classroom with no 'parental' vision. I didn't want to risk the teacher finding it.
"Hey [L/N]! Over here!" Yumehara called out, as I walked up to their table. "Have you figured out a name yet?" she asked, I nodded as I sat down. I grabbed my bento and looked inside, it looked really good, unfortunately I wasn't that hungry today, and Mera seemed to be out somewhere.
'If I eat this later, it might spoil.' I thought to myself, since I had no one else to give my lunch to, I decided to give it to Yumehara. "Ah, Yumehara, do you want my lunch?" I offered.
She gladly accepted the food and thanked me. I looked at Teruhashi who seemed to be in cloud 9, just mindlessly smiling. "Hello Teruhashi, are you okay? Have you eaten yet?" I spoke up, waving my hand in front of her, that made her go back to her senses.
"Oh! Sorry [L/N] I have.." She responded with a smile. "What's up with you?" I asked which made her flustered, "It's because she's paired up with Saiki-kun~" Yumehara teased the poor bluenette.
"W-what! N-no It's not like that!!" she waved her arms in defense; it didn't really make a difference. While Teruhashi was preoccupied trying to defend herself, Yumehara turned around to face me, "Hm, by the way. [L/N]" She continued, "Are you still up with going with us to the Mixer?" I tilted my head to think about it, I didn't have anything going on. And it wouldn't hurt right? Maybe I could find someone I like there. "Yeah" I replied, nodding.
"Great! Maybe then you can find a boyfriend!" I smiled and sent a thumbs up 'I hope I won't be regretting this.'
I got dressed into my PE uniform and went out of the changing rooms. I saw Yumehara waiting for me outside the door. "Hey! Took you long enough. Come on!" as she grabbed my hand and ran out outside. A lot of students were already gathered there, and some were just sitting down minding their own business.
"Hey! Yumehara! Over here!" someone waved to us, he was with Saiki and that kid Nendou. We made our way towards him; I didn't know who the other two were, but it seemed like Yumehara did, so, I just followed her.
"Ah you're [L/N] right? My name is Jet Black wings" The boy said, I didn't know if he was serious or not. But I decided to play along, I didn't wanna ruin their fantasy. "Oh, nice to meet you Jet black wings, what's up with your hand?" I looked up at him and he looked really excited that someone was interested.
SAIKIS POV
I knew it was a good idea to bring my germanium ring today. I could have easily tuned out Nendou bugging me about ramen, and whatever Kaidou was talking to you. Although it was surprising to see you going along with his antics.
"Oy watch it. Are you blind?!" I turned around to see a small herd of students crowding around two students.
"Hey! Someone's fighting over there. Let's go see"
"Eh? A fight?"
A couple of students ran towards the crowd. "Hey! Look, a fight!" Nedou pointed out, before running up to see what was happening. "E-eh?! A fight out in the open like this?!" 'Good grief' I didn't wanna interfere, it was none of my business anyways.
"Oh my god, someone stop them?!"
"Aren! Stop, he's bleeding already!?"
' Aren? Good grief'
I really didn't want to do this, but if someone were to get hurt much more actually die 'Its Aren we're talking about here.' I didn't want that to happen.
"Dude, this is so cool!"
"GOO AREN KICK HIS ASS"
"No! Stop encouraging him!"
"Hey! You two stop it"
I paused, 'That voice sounds familiar' I ran over to see, [L/N] walking over trying to hold back Aren. 'What the, how stupid is she?!'
It didn't take long for others to help try and hold him back. "GET OFF ME, LET ME AT THIS IDIOT?!" he clenched his fists, shoving the people aside. And he took a swing right at you, I had a weird feeling swirling in my stomach.
I don't know what came over me.
'Good grief what a pain' I was sitting in the clinic, and [L/N] sitting beside me.
"What were you doing?!"
'I don't know'
"Why did you do that?!" She stood up, facing in front of me. Putting her hand on my shoulder. "Are you going to talk?"
"I don't know," She sighed, I took off the ice pack that was resting on my face. "You shouldn't have done that." Is she serious?
"Shouldn't you be thanking me?"
"Yes, but you don't understand!? You got hurt because of me."
"Because of your stupidity."
Sending me a glare. "Seriously. Saiki, you didn't need to do that." I sighed, getting up from the bed. "I know." walking towards the door,
"But you're my friend."
I left, closing the door on my way out. 'Good grief' why did I say that.
Chapter 5: Sato Kei
Chapter Text
YOUR POV
As he said that, I couldn't help but follow his figure as he closed the door. Taking a breather to what just happened today 'Did he really just say that?' overjoyed that he thought of me as a friend, a smile creeping on my face as I left the room.
'Tsk, what a day huh.' I thought as I changed out my shoes. I didn't realize that Yumehara had called me 3 times already. "WAIT?! YUMEHARA!?" hastily running out the doors.
I saw her and Teruhashi waiting for me by the entrance. "Hi! I'm so sorry I'm late.." stopping to catch my breath "I just wanted to see how he was doing."
Teruhashi clasped her hands together, "Oh! Saiki-kun? How is he?" I looked up at her, tilting my head in confusion. "Didn't you see him? He already went home."
They both looked confused. "Eh.? We didn't see Saiki leave. Are you sure he left?" I nodded, "Yeah, his bag was gone." I replied, "Maybe he went through the back?" Yumehara suggested. '
Back gate? Does this school even have that?'
As we were walking down the street, I couldn't shake my thoughts off Saiki, even still, 'Why would he do that for me? I'm practically a stranger to him, but he did that?
"Penny for your thoughts?" Yumehara interrupted me, making me jump. "Ah.. no, its nothing" I assured her as I smiled.
As we arrived at the mixer, the store owner showed us our booth and told us that someone will go in shortly. I decided to order some food ahead since I was a bit hungry. After a couple of minutes we heard a knock at the door.
"O-oh.. Hello.." I heard one of them whisper, the boys sat down, and introduced themselves.
"My name is Sakurai Aki, my hobbies are basketball and painting." 'He seems okay, but I can't help but shake off that he's only talking to Teruhashi'
This was a bad decision.
"H-hello! My name is Tashiro Michio. I like reading, I'm actually writing a story right now.." 'He seems more shy than the first one, cute.' I looked at Yumehara who seemed to have taken a liking to him. I sigh, I guess I'll take the last one.
"Hello. My name is Sato Kei. I like cooking and I often play video games." He likes cooking so that's good.. And I play games too!
'I guess he's alright' I smiled to myself. It was now our turn to introduce ourselves. After a while me and Sato actually started getting along. "Oh, sorry can you excuse me for a bit?" he nodded.
Yumehara seemed to notice me standing up. "Psst!" She pulled my wrist down to her level leaning in, she whispered. "Hey, where are you going?" I told her that I was going to the bathroom, and she said she'd go with.
As we were getting up to go out, It seems like Teruhashi noticed us and asked us where we were going. In the end all three of us ended up going to the bathroom. 'How cliche' chuckling at the fact we left the boys alone.
As I was washing my hands, Yumehara went up to me. "Hey [L/N] How was your date?"
'He was okay' I thought, scrubbing my hands carefully.
"He was uh, very nice." Yumehara gasped. "What! Really?! I'm so jealous!" she said, almost yelling, which prompted me to look at her. "What do you mean? I thought you and him were hitting it off"
She sighed, "It was at first, but then he started to pay more attention to Teruhashi's conversation!" pacing around the room. Which made Teruhashi embarrassed, "I-I'm so sorry Chisato! I didn't mean to, I feel so terrible.." looking down and bowing, as a form apology.
She sighed and weakly laughed, walking beside her friend patting her on the back. "It's okay Kokomi-san! You didn't mean to, I'm sure!"
I could tell she felt upset at how even her supposed date was paying more attention to another girl, but she didn't want her friend to feel bad.
"Wait guys its already 5, shouldn't we go home?" checking my phone for the time 5:03. It wasn't that dark outside, but I didn't really want to wait until it did. Walking back to our booths, we said goodbye and I exchanged numbers with Sato.
"Bye! See you tomorrow [L/N]" I waved goodbye to Yumehara and Teruhashi as I went the opposite direction. I remembered mom was out today, something about a Parent meeting in the neighborhood, so that would mean I would be alone in the house for the meantime.
I passed by the same park, it was fairly empty since it was almost evening, so I decided to go sit in one of the swings. I held the chains tightly as I pushed myself back and forth. I could hear some rustling in the bushes, which made me halt my movement.
'Is it a kidnapper?!'
I wouldn't be some stupid horror character that gets killed off because they decided to explore, No. I'd run away, which is exactly what I did. As I grabbed my backpack, the culprit jumped out. It was a cat. 'Oh' which made me relax.
"Hey kitty, where's your owner, hm?" slowly treading towards the small animal.
I stopped thinking it was close enough to give it space to not spook it away. Holding out my hand, letting it smell it. I know it's weird, but that's how you get cats to trust you. Slowly the cat approached me, tilting its head. 'I gained its trust' Mentally celebrating, as a smile crept up my face.
"What are you doing?"
A voice crept behind me making me and the animal jump. I turned to look who it was, it was Saiki, who seemed to be annoyed. "Ah. Saiki, is this your cat?" I picked up the cat and gently patted it.
"No, it's my parents, or more specifically my dad's." I nodded, maybe he doesn't like cats. Handing him the cat, but before he could even grab it. The cat made its way down, jumping from my grasp. Now hiding behind me.
It made me chuckle, guess this cat doesn't like him either. Which made him more annoyed, sending a glare at the cat. For a moment, it was silent before he sighed.
"Can you carry him back to my place, he likes you more than me" I nodded. As we walked back to his place, I admired the scenery and quietness. He halted in front of a house, before opening the gate letting me in. I didn't want to intrude so I crouched down, dropping the cat from my hands.
As I walked out the gate, the cat followed me back out. Making me look at Saiki, "Can you just-"
Cutting him off was the front door opening. It was a man, "Kuu! Did you find Anpu?" before turning his sight on me "Oh! Who are you?"
SAIKIS POV
‘Good grief’ I looked at culprit. “Look at what you did,” the cat tilted its head.
“Nya?? Me?! I would never.” he was a terrible liar. Before I could explain my dad immediately ran and hugged her. “Oh my! You must be Kuu’s girlfriend! I'm so glad to meet you” shaking her hand continuously.
She sent me an awkward glare, “Uh, I'm not.. Your son's girlfriend. I just found your cat.” which made him look at Saiki and back at me. “Oh well thank you for finding my little Anpu. How about you come in for a bit, it's quite late to go home isn't it?” Before she could even protest, my father dragged her in.
YOUR POV
‘Who am I to complain if they give free food, better than staying at home by myself’ as we went inside, I took off my shoes and followed Saiki and his dad.
“Oh honey? Who is this?” A sweet voice called out. It must be his mom. As I was looking around, there was another lady in the kitchen as well. ‘Wait-’ “MOM!?” I screamed, as the lady turned to look at me. It was my mom.
“Ah! Honey, I didn't know you knew Saiki.” My mom clasped her hands, His parents looked at me “Oh! This must be your daughter that you were talking about! It's so nice to meet you dear, you look so pretty!” flustered at her comment, “Oh, hah thank you..”
I excused myself and went down to sit beside my mom “Dear, what are you doing out here? I thought you went home already” she looked at me, while explaining to her what had happened.
My mother laughed off what happened, before looking towards the kitchen counter, “Oh Kurumi! Let me help you with dinner.” my mother stood up, offering to help. And with a lot of insisting, Mrs. Saiki accepted the extra hand.
Saiki had gone upstairs a while ago, so now it was just me and his father.
“So, what do you think about Kusuo? Isn't he boyfriend material huh.” he was asking what I thought about his son.
‘Is he setting me up with Saiki?’ I smiled awkwardly, “Oh he's pretty nice I suppose... But he and I are just friends” I assured him. Before the conversation could continue on, Saiki’s mother had told us that dinner was ready. I offered to help set the plates and cups. “Oh, [Y/N] would you be a dear and call Saiki down.” I nodded and went upstairs.
I assumed this was his room, I mean it's just a hunch. [It had Saiki’s room written on it] knocking before I turned the knob. Saiki was reading a manga with his headphones on. I didn't want to spook him, so I carefully walked beside him and coughed loudly. Which made him jump a little, and then immediately looking at me somewhat annoyed. Taking off his headphones and putting down his manga neatly.
“Sorry, your mom called me in to tell you, its dinner.” he nodded, and I walked out downstairs.

hii so sorry for the lack of updates. I GOT DISTRACTED BY JANITOR AI AND LOST MY MOTIVATION WHEN I USED UP ALL MY FREE MESSAGES 😿😿 anyhow enjoy this short chapter, I'll try to make the next ones longer, but I just wanted to give you guys an update for noww!!1!
Chapter Text
“It was delightful Kurumi, next time I’ll have you invited to ours.” My mother thanked the couple and I said goodbye to Saiki. On our way back home, I noticed that the stars were somewhat visible.
It wasn't like the city where it would be dominated by flashing lights from ads. But the lights from the lamps and houses did make it troublesome to do Stargazing. One thing I miss from living in the country-side.
“Dear, you were walking home with Kusuo, Are you two close?” My mother nudged my arm, grinning widely. I knew what she was thinking, and I better stop it before it gets out of hand, or worse, dad finds out. “No mom, it's not what you think. I just found their cat.” I shrugged.
Seeing her smile growing wider, I knew she wasn't convinced. “He’s a nice boy you know.” she defended. That's hilarious, he wasn't particularly nice, but I guess why she would see that.
Today was such a hectic day, a good rest would suffice. We arrived back home, carelessly shoving my shoes somewhere, I’d deal with it tomorrow. I walked upstairs, I felt like I was forgetting something...
“Honey, what's this egg in your bag?”
Immediately I turned around, running down the stairs. “Mom, Wait! Where is it?!” seeing her stand with the egg in hand, wrapped in tissue paper. ‘Phew oh my god’ I sigh with relief. “Where did you find Miya?” I asked,
“Miya? Is it a project, honey?” I nodded, as she handed me the egg, checking for cracks. “Uh yeah, thank you for giving me it.” My mom nodded, as she stood up. “Haha, you're lucky I called you. I would have cooked it.” Her last statement made me shiver.
As she walked away, I had a moment to calm down. If my mom hadn't found it, I’d get a failing grade, and worse; I’d drag down Hairo with me. ‘Shit. I'm such a bad mom’ carefully hovering my hand above for protection, just in case.
“I'm so sorry Miya, I left you in my bag”
I decided to place Miya in my room for now, not feeling safe to put her in the fridge. After saying my mom would cook her, if it weren't for my project. I grabbed some extra pillows and a small comforter to stop her from rolling off the table.
Propping some pillows and a small blanket on my bedside, setting Miya down. Tomorrow was some sort of day for teachers to ‘unwind’, so I have the whole day to myself. ‘Maybe I could go shopping?’ shifting on the bed.
My eyes started to feel weary, yawning as I turned off the lamp. Scrambling around the bed as I found a good position. “Goodnight Miya...” I mumbled as Miya was the last thing I saw before drifting off to sleep.
Chapter 7: Market
Notes:
a little short today, but im planning on a double upload ;3
Chapter Text
“Honey, I'm going now. There's some food on the table. Eat them before they spoil!” as I groggily turned around the bed, I checked my alarm. Checking out Miya and making sure she didn't fall down last night. Going down stairs, there were pancakes on a plate and a small sticky note beside it.
I'm off to work, take care!
-Love Mom
As I folded the note carefully, my phone rang a notification. Sato?
SAIKIS POV
“Kuu-chan, can you go to the market today? I'm missing a few ingredients.” I revert my eyes behind me, “I could just teleport them here.” My mother was cooking something, and she's making it a big deal to go to the market. When I could just have teleported to an alleyway and bought it easily.
“I know, but wouldn't it be nice to go out once in a while? You have no class today, children your age would go out partying” she said, in a bit of a sad tone.
‘Good grief’ I stood up, “Fine, what do you need?” her eyes lit up, as she immediately grabbed a list in her pocket. “All of this” with a smile on her face as the list fell all the way to her knees.
‘Good grief’
‘Cabbage.’ Today was a fairly crowded day at the market, something about a sale on the vegetables. All these people, being squished into a sardine. Not only that but their thoughts also were louder, ‘What a pain.’
“Over here young man! 45% on these vegetables! Why don't you check it out!”
“Hello dear, care to buy its buy 1 take 1”
“ PSSST Kid over here check out my vegetables over here, buy 2 take 1 free!”
‘Yikes, you sound like a kidnapper’ continuing to walk around, I already have some of the ingredients. I could probably just go home, right?
“Hey dude look, Cafe Mami has a discount today.”
“What? Oh you mean the couple's discount?”
‘Good grief, couples discount? Seriously, it seems like they're just trying to drag in customers.’
Valentine's Day Discount 50% OFF.
‘Well, it won't hurt to try’
I went ahead and read the flyers up front, and they said that customers that are with their partners are able to get 50% off. My day was already ruined, but since I’m already here I’ll just get coffee jelly and go.
I went inside and immediately noticed the huge amount of couples in the area, it was crowded to the point where some people actually had to share tables with other strangers. And amongst those people was Y/N?
What was she doing here, alone in a cafe shop? More likely she's waiting for someone. It wasn't my business, but whoever she's waiting for piqued my interest. Who was so interesting that caught her eye?
I decided to sit closest to her booth, telling myself that I was merely curious about said person. I decided to order ahead, in case It might be a while. And for the next 20 minutes, I sat there watching, checking her phone constantly, while laying her head down occasionally.
It was a hassle in itself; I couldn't hear her thoughts. What's going on in her head, does she know it's pointless to wait on someone who isn't going to come.
“I'm sorry Ma’am but you’ve been sitting here for 30 minutes... And you haven't ordered anything. You're taking up a table, and the managers getting antsy...”
Seriously? She’s been here for 30 minutes, and still persistent on waiting? Who was this person that was so important? Does she even know she's being stood up right now?
“I know, can I just stay here for 5 more minutes.. I'm sure he’s just late.... Please?” she asked.
“I kinda feel bad for her, being stood up on Valentines Day?”
“I know right. Poor girl..”
‘Good grief, You're such an idiot.’ I stood up, walking towards her. Looking like she was about to cry.
Chapter Text
YOUR POV
‘Shit, where is he. This is so embarrassing. I can hear you, you know.’ I laid my head down; this was the worst. He was the one that insisted we go out, and yet he’s the one flaking. Such an asshole.
“Hey” I looked up, “Sato?” looking at the figure in front of me, “No idiot, it's me” I jumped from my seat, fixing my posture.
“Saiki? What are you doing here...?” ‘Oh great, does he know?’
“I noticed you were alone. Are you waiting on someone?”
I hesitated for a bit, should I actually tell him. If I did, would he laugh at me for being pathetic...? “Or did your mom send you out here to buy groceries too?” he spoke out as he sat down on the chair in front of me. ‘Groceries?’
“O-oh! Yeah, Hahah me too.. What a coincidence right?” I laughed off as I scratched my neck.
“Did you order something?” Oh, right. I’ve been here for 30 minutes.. I didnt even order anything just in case he’d arrive. “No.. not yet, do you want something? My treat!” he nodded immediately,
“Coffee Jelly please”
“Is coffee jelly your favorite?” He seemed really fond of the desert, from what I saw the other day. “Yes. It's good."
He stayed silent for a second, before asking again "What about you?” I looked down at my food. It was very good, but my mind couldn't get off Sato. He stood me up, after planning this. “It's.. okay, just not hungry right now.”
He understood and continued eating his jelly. It was pretty entertaining actually; he had this cute face on him whenever he’d munch on it. Does he know he makes that face?
“You're staring” He continued, not looking away from his desert.
"Did you really come here to buy groceries” he asked, looking up at me; it wasn't like a question. More like he knew why I was here. So why did he pretend he didn't in the first place. “Uh, why do you say that?”
“Am I right?” he said as continued his food, how can he say that with such a neutral face. “Yeah.. You're right, I was supposed to meet up with someone today. And he stood me up. Pathetic right?” I smiled weakly, laughing a bit at the irony.
“No, I think it's pretty awful for someone to avoid you. It's a shame” I furrowed my brows, “What do you mean?” I asked further, “Because they're missing out on the food” he stared at me before continuing "and you", making me burst out laughing.
“Pfft... what a way to cheer me up.. But thank you.. I appreciate it..”
“Yeah.. you're welcome” He shrugged as he continued to finish the last of his jelly. “You know that was pretty cringe right.” making me stifle a laugh. “Shut up and eat your food”
“Here you go! I already checked the discount so the price here is the total.” the waitress laid down the receipt, as she walked off to assist other customers.
‘Wait, does she think we're on a date. Like we were one of the couples eating here?’ I looked at Saiki, he didn't look too bothered.
Watching him pull out his wallet, I immediately stopped him ”Wait! What are you doing?”
“I'm paying half of it, I don't want to be in de-”
“No! I told you it was my treat right?” Pushing away his hand, Insisting I’d pay. It was pretty cheap considering the discount so It didn't bother me that much.
“..Thanks”
“The food was awesome!” stretching my arms out, I looked at Saiki. “Are you going home now?” he shook his head. “I have some leftover groceries I need to buy” He shrugged, and it seemed like his journey was far from over yet. Speaking of, I was going to go shopping today.
“Can I accompany you? I have some errands myself so why not go through it together right, what do you say?” I asked, “Fine, just don't bother me that much, okay?” he shrugged, walking ahead. “Of course, of course! I'll be silent!” I motioned a zipper on my mouth and pretended to throw it away.
“So.. what's next on your list?” tilting my head a bit to see its writing.
“I thought you said you wouldn't talk” sighing as I followed him. “I know, but it's boring.”
“What was that errand you needed to do?” he asked, “Oh! I was going to go shopping for some clothes, you should come with me!” I offered, “I'm already busy, and why would I need more clothes?” passing a few stalls, I stopped in front of a vendor selling cupcakes.
"Actually, I just needed a day to myself, outside the house." I looked at him,
"Do you want one?" the vendor had a batch of freshly made cupcakes, and as to stay on theme. Most of them were decorated in red or pink, and an assortment of hearts as sprinkles.
"Okay, but I'll pay this time" I nodded, watching him pay for a box, containing 6 cupcakes. "Thank you!" smiling widely, it was truly a generous offer. Or maybe he was just doing that to pay me back, either way I was grateful. Holding out a piece, "Here!" offering him a bite.

Chapter Text
“Saiki?” a voice called out from behind, making us turn our heads around to see. It was Teruhashi who had called out, “Oh, Teruhashi! What a surprise to see you here!” I said, as I walked closer to the girl who was just staring, standing still. She looked dreadful, what happened to her?
SAIKIS POV
What is she doing here? ‘Dammit. I’ve been fixated on whatever we were doing. I forgot to stay cautious.’ How did I not hear her coming?
*What is she doing here.. And why is she with Saiki!? Of all people!? Are they on a date?! No it can't be, but they're holding cupcakes and are going out on Valentines week?! No way, it's not possible-*
“Teruhashi? Are you okay..?” Y/N replied, waving her hands in front of her, Teruhashi seemed to be in a daze. That's what she’d think at least, but I can read her thoughts. And all I can say is, I don't like it.
“O-oh! Sorry, I was a little distracted. Uh [Y/N], Saiki what are you guys doing here...?” Trying her best to sound as polite as possible, but her aura was betraying her. It was suffocating to say the least.
*Wait.. If Saiki-kun and [Y/N] are going out.. That means I can't go after Saiki anymore!? It’ll make me look like a homewrecker?!*
‘Bingo’
Teruhashi couldn't possibly risk her reputation chasing over a taken man. Right, so now all I have to do is make her believe it. “Saiki and I-” he cut me off, “We’re hanging out” a confused look sent my way by, you guessed it. She nudged my shoulder slowly.
‘What are you saying..?’
‘Just go with it’
Our conversation went on further, “Ohh.. just you two..?” Teruhashi tilted her head, if you paid attention, you could almost see her eyes twitching. “Yeah” [Y/N] stood quiet, maybe she didn't wanna ruin whatever I'm trying to do, I appreciated it, because it made it a whole lot easier.
“Yep, just us two.” a distasteful look painted on Teruhashi’s face. “W-Well you wouldn't mind if I join right..?”
“Well were-” cutting me off, “Absolutely!”
‘Good grief’ facepalming mentally.
YOUR POV
“So.. what were you guys doing hanging out...?” Teruhashi spoke up, breaking the silence. A few seconds before realizing what she said, a bit panicked “I mean, it's not that I find it weird that you guys hang out but I just wante-” Teruhashi panicked as she picked an excuse.
“Oh no worries, we just had errands to do and bumped into each other by chance” I understood why she’d be asking these types of questions, I knew she liked Saiki, and I didn't wanna make her think I was stealing him.
“By chance? Oh. Okay!” After I had said that, her expression changed, transformed into a glowing smile. It was a bit obvious but who was I to judge?
‘Come to think of it, why not try setting them up together?’ I smile crept up my face, I had a plan. “What are you smiling for?” Teruhashi asked, pulling me out of my thoughts. “Oh It’s fine, don't worry about it” reassuring her it was nothing.
We passed by a few food stalls, since Saiki had to buy some of his groceries, I decided that me and Teruhashi should go clothes shopping for a bit. “So [Y/N] how’s your egg?” Teruhashi asked, starting the conversation. “It's been fine, Haru sometimes asks me for updates.
"He’s busy so I understand, but he said he’d be free tomorrow so we can finally start taking pictures.” turning my head towards the dresses on display.
“Wa-wait pictures” Teruhashi retorted, a worried look on her face. “Yeah, I thought you knew. You have to take pictures of you and your partner taking care of the egg..” remembering the time our teacher assigned us the project. “W-What?! No! It completely slipped my mind, you know I was preoccupied by something and totally forgot-” her panicked state put a small smile on my face,
“Teruhashi, don't worry about it. There's still plenty of time right, and on the plus side, Saiki’s your partner, lucky for you he’s here right now” I smiled, placing my hands on her shoulder to help her calm down. “O-oh! Right, of course!” she replied, feeling a bit calmer now.
We didn't find anything we liked, so we went off to a different store, coincidentally bumping into Saiki once more. “Oh! Saiki! Are you done with your errands?” I asked, tapping him on the shoulder, making him shudder in turn.
“Yes.” he replied, with a monotone voice. “Great!” I smiled, grabbing Teruhashi who was standing still beside me.
“You guys should take a picture you know, for the project” I teased, pushing them together as I grabbed out my phone. “For the project..” Teruhashi whispered quietly.
“3..2..1.. Smile!” I yelled, snapping a few photos.
“Okay! All good guys!” I gestured it was okay to move, going to my gallery to check the photo I had just taken. “Can I see?” Teruhashi asked, walking up to me, I just nodded and showed her my phone. “I’ll send this to you?” I asked, Teruhashi nodded in agreement.
“Do you guys maybe wanna catch a movie?” Teruhashi offered, seeing her flustered structure, you could tell she was nervous.
“Great Idea!” I replied, smiling to myself, 'Maybe I can set them up this way!' While lost in thought, Teruhashi turned to look at Saiki who remained quiet this whole time. “Are you coming too Saiki?” she asked, “Sure he is!” I cut him off from saying a reply, “Saiki’s down to go to the movies!”
I smiled, turning my head to him. “Right, Saiki?” I smiled, “Actually, I need to give these back to my mo-” cutting him off once more,
“No worries, Saiki! I can give it to her for you. Besides, I think my mom wants me home too!” I smiled.
“I’ll just give your groceries when I pass by your house” I continued, as I grabbed the bag off his hands. “And you guys can just go on with Movie, without me” I smiled, sending a wink to Teruhashi who was already getting flustered again.
SAIKIS POV
‘Good Grief, this girl has to learn some manners,’ Why is she cutting me off every time I speak? Is she deliberately setting us up on purpose?
‘I thought you were on my side Y/N!’.
Teruhashi’s thoughts right now were far from normal,
*Oh my gosh! A movie with Saiki!? This is big! Crazy even!" I sighed before tuning out her thoughts. This would have been much easier If I could read your thoughts Y/N.
Chapter 10: Do you believe in soulmates?
Chapter Text
-This would have been much easier If I could read your thoughts Y/N.
‘God really is on my side today!’ Turning my head to Y/N who was carrying around 3-5 bags. ‘Whaaat?! She’s going to carry all of that back home?!’ Teruhashis dream of being alone with Saiki crumbled as she realized there was no way she was going to let Y/N go carrying all that.
There's just no way. It would make her look like a selfish girl, making her friend carry all those bags alone. That disrupts her whole image of being the perfect pretty girl.
‘Y/N you stupid genius’ This was exactly what Saiki needed as an excuse to let you stay.
YOUR POV
“W-Wait! Y/N, are you sure you can carry all of those alone..?” I glanced down at the bags in my hand, Sure they were quite heavy bu–
“W–Why don't you.. Just stay with us. It's less hassle for you to carry…” I looked up at the two of them, a small smile plastered on my face. Albeit my plan didn't go as I expected, I could always turn it around. “Alright, fine.” was all I could say, walking back to where they stood, handing Saiki his bag of items. We started walking towards the cinema.
“What could be playing today?” Teruhashi looked at the posters, her eyes shifting over to each individual one, before stopping to stare at a bright pink poster. The name was some cheesy romance title. I watch her point towards the poster, an innocent smile plastered on her face. “What about this one?” My eyes drift towards Saiki who had an unreadable expression on his face. “I don't watch those.” he replied before he started to walk away.
An Idea immediately popped into my head, with newfound purpose, I grabbed Saikis hand before he could walk away. “No way you're getting out of this!” I exclaimed. Trying to drag him back, as I struggled to say “L-Lets.. Just.. watch.. It!”
“W-We don't have to watch it if you guys don't want to–” Teruhashis panicked voice echoed through the lobby, shaking my head. “No I– I want to watch it, so its two versus one” I smiled, turning to Saiki who looked defeated.
Teruhashi had volunteered to buy the snacks, and I had to drag Saiki to the ticket counter. “Three tickets please for the Soulmate lottery.” I cringed half-way through saying it, I get it's a romance movie, but they honestly need to do a better job at naming one.
I glanced over at Saiki who had his face in an even more emotionless expression, I didn't even know that was possible. I turned my head back, looking at anywhere but the guy behind me who seemed to have daggers for eyes.
“Saiki, thank you..for doing this.”
“I didn't really have a choice.”
I chuckle at his straightforwardness, he was really doing me a favor. I looked at the tickets in hand, my eyes half lidded, but it wasn't even for my own sake. It was for—
“I'm back!” Teruhashi exclaimed, her voice catching my attention, waving happily with her free hand. The other hand holding… nothing? I looked behind her to see two other guys holding what looked to be our food.
“Uh… Teruhashi?” I replied, scratching the back of my neck. She realized what I was talking about and turned her head back to the same two guys. “Thank you so much you two!” she exclaimed happily, clasping her hands together, the two guys shared a laugh and walked off. “What was that about?” I asked, reaching for some popcorn.
“Oh— Sorry, those guys insisted on buying me popcorn but I already told them I was out with my friends… but they still insisted..” Teruhashi explained, as I nodded along.
The three of us walked in the theatre, the room being already dim, making it hard for us to navigate towards our seats. But by some miracle, we made it through without hitting anyone.
We sat down, and I purposely had Saiki sit in the middle, so this way, he’d have no choice but to sit next to Teruhashi. ‘I am literally a genius.’ I celebrated in my head, smiling to myself. The sudden burst of music made me fix my gaze onto the big screen.
.
.
.
We were already 20 minutes in the movie; not realizing that was the case. I was so into the movie I forgot I was with two other people. ‘Although it wouldn't matter if I forgot about them, I'm practically third-wheeling right now!’
I chuckled to myself before facing my attention back to the movie screen, hearing a few shuffling beside me, I paid it no mind, reaching my hand for the bucket of popcorn, I winced slightly when I felt another hand touch mine.
Time skip
“So what’d you guys think?” I asked, stretching my arms a bit as I yawned, it was already 4 PM. I looked beside me to see Teruhashi smiling a little brighter than usual. “Oh well I think it was cute!”
"I know right! The synergy between the main lead and the love interest was so cute!” I retorted, placing my hand on my chin as if to think, “Although..” my words drifted off as we started walking.
“—the main character was kind of basic.”
“—I was rooting for the second lead.”
We both said in unison, making us look at each other in confusion. “Wait wait, you think the main character was basic?” Teruhashi asked, looking at me intently. I scratched the back of my neck sheepishly, looking away from her gaze.
“Kind of.. I mean, I see it in a lot of movies all the time, so I guess it just got boring to me.” I shrugged, before continuing, “But what about you!” I exclaimed, a little too loud. Pointing my hands, “You were rooting for the second lead!?”
“I- Yeah!” she paused before cooling her excitement, “—wasn't the second lead much more perfect for the main character?”
I paused for a moment; remembering the movie, “I guess, but the main lead and love interest were definitely destined to be together in the end.”
Teruhashi looked at me with curiosity, “Why is that?”
“Because! The main lead and love interest were best friends since childhood— only to be drifted apart by distance.” I paused for dramatic effect, my eyes beaming with excitement, “But of course, their paths cross again, this time, forever intertwined!”
The smile on my face never faulting, “just like soulmates!”
SAIKIS POV
‘I guess that's one way to put it…’
Although, I had already known that the main character would end up with the love interest either way, since I got spoiled way back at the ticket counter. I only stayed because it would have been such a waste on good food.
.
.
.
After reaching a fork in the road, Teruhashi had finally bid us farewell, ‘What a pain.’ We walked a bit in silence, and I felt Y/N shift beside me as we walked back home. “...So, what’d you think?”
“It was predictable.”
“Seriously?”
I nodded briefly, Y/N stayed quiet for a moment, “-but other than that, what’d you think of the main lead and love interest?”
“I have no comments about it.” Y/N stopped walking, and I could feel her eyes staring back at me. ‘What now?’ . I turned around to see her shocked expression. “Are you serious?!”
I stayed quiet, I mean what do you expect of me woman, the story really was predictable and the characters… I have no care for them at all . How can someone attach themselves to fictional people? [Oy]
“I just don't find it all that interesting” I shrugged, continuing to walk ahead, Y/N’s footsteps followed behind me. “..but you did enjoy this right?”
“Sure.”
I glance over at Y/N, clutching the bags she has in her hand. I looked up at the sky, she stayed quiet for a moment, although that didn't really matter if it were anyone else. ‘But you weren't like anyone else’ , walking in silence, I could always just hear what the other person was thinking.
‘But I can't really do that with you, huh?’
.
.
“Do you believe in Soulmates?
.
.
‘Now that’s unexpected.’ I turned to look at her, her gaze focused on the floor. “Well, statistically speaking, there are 8 billion people on earth; the probability of just one person being the one for you is.. Ridiculous.”
Y/N stayed quiet, feeling a bit exposed after telling her all of that. But, it was what I thought, at least the shorter version. As a psychic, I am able to do a lot of things. Seeing soulmates isn't one of them. Y/N chuckled, her voice a little airy, “But of course, I knew you’d say that..”
.
.
.
“Huh, the sky looks a little bit grayer, don't you think?”
“Let's just hurry back, it might rain soon.”

Chapter Text
YOUR POV
The rain muffled the silence, holding out my hand in front of me as I felt the water pour down. And as if on cue, we both ran towards the nearest bus stop. “Guess we’re stranded, huh.” I spoke up, my gaze still stuck on the hand in front of me, examining the water droplets.
“Guess so.”
“I'm surprised your mother isn't worried.” I glance over at Saiki, sitting down on the bench behind me, “You’ve been gone for quite a while.” I patted the seat beside me, motioning him to sit down as well.
“Weren’t you running some errands for your mom?” He stayed quiet for a second, as if in thought, before shrugging it off. I smiled, my gaze falling down on the floor, I felt my phone buzz.
[ 1 missed call ]
My eyes followed the words, and I realized it was my mom who called me. ‘Damn it.’
I glanced back up, looking at Saiki who had an unreadable expression on his face. “Hey.. uh my mom’s calling me, she wants me home in 10 minutes..” I replied a bit awkwardly, scratching the back of my neck.
His eyes stared back into mine and I immediately looked away out of embarrassment. “Is it cool If I go ahead?” I replied, my voice a little hushed.
I watched Saiki’s head turn towards the streets, the sound of rain filling our ears paired with that musky earth smell you always liked. “You’re gonna go home right now?” he asked, turning his head back to look at me.
I nod, placing my phone back in my pocket. “My mom is going home in 15 minutes, but she wants me to start on dinner by then..” I sighed, grabbing a hold of my bags. I stood up, bracing myself for what I was about to do.
“I’ll go with you.”
I turned my head, looking at him confused. “Why? You should just wait this one out.” I replied, but before I could continue, Saiki stood up. He stood beside me, his eyes on the street in front of us.
“I need to go home as well.”
SAIKIS POV
‘What a pain’ That was a lie, I didn't need to say that.
‘Is she really planning to go out in the rain?’ If I didn't know any better, I would have assumed you were stupid.
But really, I wasn't any better myself. Why would I say that? Mom already knew I would come home late the second I bumped into Y/N back at the cafe. I had telepathically told her that, and yet—
I pulled away from my thoughts, seeing Y/N glance at me with a smile. “Race you!” she replied, before running out in the rain.
‘Really, what a pain.’
YOUR POV
We stopped in front of my house, a bit out of breath and definitely dripping wet. “That..was..fun..” I replied through each breath.
Although the rain had stopped once we reached our neighborhood, we were both still soaked from all that running. Glancing over at Saiki, I couldn't help but laugh. “Wow, I didn't expect you to actually run out with me.”
Walking up to the front door, as I tried to find the right key to open it. I went inside, taking off my shoes before slipping on my usual slippers before turning around behind me. “Thank you, for walking me home.” I bowed my head.
“It's nothing.”
Saiki bowed his head, with nothing left to say he turned around to leave.
“Ah. wait” I yelped, running inside to the kitchen. Aggressively opening our refrigerator, I yelled from inside the house, “We have cake!”
I ran back to the front door, looking at the Saiki again. “We- We have cake, let me have you bring some home.. Please? As thanks.”
SAIKIS POV
‘Well who could ever decline sweets.’ I’m sure mom wouldn't mind.
“Ah, but your clothes— huh?” Y/N realized, turning her head around to see me almost completely dry.
“How did that happen?” she asked, treading a bit closer to examine me now. “My clothes are.. Fast dry.”
Blink. Blink. Blink.
“Woahhh! Seriously! Is that like a new type of material or something?” she exclaimed, almost in awe of what I had just said.
‘That was easy.’ My clothes aren't really “fast dry” , I don't even think such materials exist. I just used Pyrokinesis to heat up my body, making my clothes dry fast.
“Well you can just put your things down over there! I’ll cut you a slice, okay?”
Walking towards the couch, my eyes lingered around in the furniture that looked to be brand new. Following its gaze, landing on the small picture frame on top of a shelf above the piano.
Y/N walked up beside me, handing me a slice of cake. “It's strawberry cheesecake.”. Sitting down beside me as she turned her head to the TV screen. “You wanna watch something?” hovering her hand above the remote control.
“Weren’t you gonna make dinner?’
“Huh? Oh yeah, I already made it.
“What? How?”
“I just microwaved our leftovers, and I set our rice cooker to cook some rice, that's all.”
YOUR POV
I walked towards the couch, settling into the cushions, leaving a little space between Saiki and I. I turned on the TV, glancing at Saiki who was just staring quietly. “If you want, I can cut more cake for you?”, about to stand up.
“No, it's fine.” I nodded and got myself comfortable again, turning my head towards the screen. We stayed like this for a good 8 minutes before I got up to the kitchen to check the rice.
I placed the plate down in the sink, looking over to see if the rice was almost done. I checked over the time, 6:58.
“Saiki, do you wanna have dinner here?” I yelled from the kitchen as I washed my plate, humming to myself. “No, It’s fine. I'm sure my mom is looking for me.” he replied from the living room.
I dried my hands off and walked towards the fridge again, “Right, I forgot.” cutting another slice of cake and carefully putting it in a plastic container.
I walked back to the living room, handing him the plastic container, “Here, for Mrs. Saiki..” I replied, looking away a bit embarrassed. “A thank you, for the trouble..”
I felt Saiki look at me, averting my eyes to someplace else, taking the container off my hands, and for a moment our fingers touched. ‘His hands feel cold..’ I thought to myself, pulling my hands back to my chest.
‘What the hell was that?’
The door suddenly bursts open, revealing my mother who was a little bit soaked despite the umbrella in her hands. “Honey, I’m home!” seemingly not noticing the pink haired boy on our couch.
“Did you start on dinner alrea-” her voice lowered when she finally realized there was a guest.
“Oh! Saiki, Y/N didn't tell me you’d be staying.” she replied, taking off her shoes and putting on her own house slippers. Hanging her coat on the rack as she made her way to the living room.
“Will you be staying for dinner?”
“No, I was actually about to leave.” He replied, standing up from his seat. The container secured in his hand as he bowed to excuse himself.
My mother looked at me and back at Saiki, “Are you sure?” she nudged, “I'm sure Kuru- Your mom, wouldn't mind!” she smiled, as she walked away and into the kitchen.
“Mom! Saiki needs to go home, or he’ll get in trouble!” I followed her to the kitchen, her body turned away from me. “Oh alright, maybe next time.” she replied casually, swaying her body as she hummed along.
‘Like hell there's gonna be a next time!?’ I groaned, walking back to the living room, and met with Saiki who was awkwardly standing in front of our door.
“Sorry about that, she’s just really happy I bought a friend over.” I replied, scratching the back of my neck, averting my gaze. Realizing what I had said, I cleared my throat as I opened the door.
“Well, anyways… Thank you again..”
Saiki nodded, shuffling his way on the shoe rack. I watched him carefully as he crouched down, slipping on his shoes. Saiki pushed to their feet, and our eyes met half-way before I looked at something else.
“Thank you for having me. ”
I nodded as I opened the door for him, following pursuit. Seeing him walk out to our front yard, I felt myself breathing a sigh of relief. ‘That was nerve racking… for all the wrong reasons.’
Chapter 12: Fever
Chapter Text
I shifted around in my bed, finding every possible position to be uncomfortable. I huffed, deciding to just get up and eat. But the moment I sat up, it was like a huge truck had hit me. My head was throbbing, badly.
I clutched the side of my head, feeling dizzy already. “Fuck..” I whispered, reaching out for my phone on the bedside table. I struggled to make out the words, 7:53 AM.
I pushed myself off the bed, my back hunched over as I tried to fight the urge to just collapse on the floor. Trudging my way down the stairs, I looked over to see my mother cooking. “Mom…”
Her face turned to me, taking in the scene of her very much sick daughter. “I think I'm sick…”
38.4
“You have a fever.” My mother walked closer to me, reaching the back of her hand to feel my forehead. “Hmm… I have to go somewhere today, are you gonna be okay home alone?”
I looked up at her, my eyes adjusting to the light. “Mh..m, I can manage..” I replied groggily. I felt her sit down on the couch, shifting my weight into a more comfortable position as I tried to make space for her.
I felt her kiss my forehead, before walking to the door. “Well, I’ll just have someone come over later..” she replied, staying quiet for a moment before closing the door, hearing the lock click.
‘What did she mean by that?’
SAIKIS POV
‘What a pain’
Looking down on the small, wrapped bento in front of me, and my mother who seemed to be cooking even more food. “Kuu! Oh my goodness, thank God you're awake!” my mother ran up and shook me by the shoulders.
My mothers worried expression never wavered, returning to continue what she was previously doing. “Y/N’s mother just called me, she told me Y/N has a fever!” she stammered through her words as she continued to pack another container.
“What do you want me to do?” It wasn't really me offering for me to do something, but of course, nothing really goes my way, does it?
My mother beamed at my words, running up to me as she grabbed a hold of the bento box on our table, as well as two other containers wrapped nicely in a pink blanket. “Thank you so much Kuu!” my mother chirped.
‘Whatever. It’s not like I could say no.’
THIRD POV
Saiki stood in front of the porch, silently debating if he should just have someone else deliver the food, but the guilt would probably eat him alive. He didn't like being in debt, and a part of him felt like, you falling ill was his fault.
His hand grimaced on the doorbell, switching back and forth between that and the door. Which was the better option?, frankly he didn't really care for things like that. But this felt different than all those times.
“Just pick one already.” He thought to himself, for once, he could actually hear himself think. It was one of the rare occasions that Saiki chose to wear his germanium ring, blocking out all the unnecessary voices from his head.
A loud clattering noise was heard from the other side of the door, before it opened abruptly.
“Saiki?”
Saiki stood there frozen, not expecting Y/N to open up the door, why did she open it up anyways? Was she expecting me?
“I- uh, what are you doing here..?” Y/N’s voice was lower than usual, it sounded kind of raspy. Her eyes narrowed down on Saiki’s hand, landing on the pink bento shaped item in his hand.
“Is that… for me?” Y/N’s eyes looked back up at Saiki, who had no reaction on his face, “Yes. My mom made it for you when she heard you were sick.”
Y/N nodded, stepping aside, signaling to Saiki to come in. “Sorry if it's a bit of a mess… I just woke up..” the girl shrugged, plopping down on the couch. Her attention went back to the guy standing in front of her.
“It's fine, I just came here to bring you the food.”
Y/N hummed, pushing herself upwards to sit down. Grabbing a hold of the pink bento, tracing its patterns. “Your mom sure is nice for making all of this in such quick notice..” Y/N muttered, it would have gone unnoticed if it weren't for the obsolete quietness of the entire house.
“Yeah”
The room fell silent, the two looking in different directions. Saiki noticed an egg placed carefully on top of a pillow. Seemingly piqued his interest, he walked closer to inspect it. Y/N noticed her pink friend walk towards the egg she had placed there earlier.
“Oh yeah, that's our egg project.” she hummed, feeling proud for some reason. It had been 3 days since the project was given to them, and from what she’d heard from Yumehara, some of the pairs had already broken their own eggs.
“Speaking of, how’s your egg, Saiki?” Y/N quipped her head, shuffling on the couch as she leaned her back against the arm rest. Resting the bento on her lap, carefully unravelling the pink blanket that covered it.
“It’s okay.” He replied, looking down on the egg once more before sitting down across from her. Y/N hummed in agreement, stuffing her mouth with the food. “Man, dith ith…yummy!” she exclaimed, beaming down on the still warm food.
Saiki shifted awkwardly, looking away as the girl continued to eat, a little messier than he would have liked. “Don't… eat with your mouth full.” he replied, fixing his glasses with his pointer finger.
“-Sho… Sorry!”
After gulping down the entire bento Saiki’s mom had packed, Y/N started feeling better. “Man! That was yummy, can't believe you get to eat that every day!” she exclaimed, leaning her head on her hand as it layed on top of the arm rest.
Saiki didn't answer, merely just nodding along to whatever else she said. “Hey, do you wanna play video games?” Y/N chirped, standing up as she walked towards the PS set, grabbing two separate controllers.
Y/N walked back, flopping back on the couch as she handed Saiki the other controller. “I just got this new game a week ago, and I haven't had the chance to really play it.” Y/N settled herself on the couch, her eyes focused on the screen in front of her.
Saiki glanced towards the girl a few inches away from him, before looking back down on the controller sitting on his lap. It couldn't hurt to play; it was only a game.
Game Over
The words flashed on repeat all over the screen, the screen on the TV was split, and those words were displayed on Saiki’s half of the screen. “Wow… good game right?” Y/N murmured quietly, scratching the back of her neck.
This was the 7th time he had lost. Saiki lost. No way. Impossible. There was absolutely no way you could have, you had to be cheating. “Again.” Saiki demanded, the words falling haplessly out of his mouth without realizing.
Y/N could sense the tension from the boy, shifting uncomfortably in her seat. “Ah.. but it's already 11, shouldn't we eat first?” pushing herself off her seat, placing down the controller carefully as she made a beeline to the kitchen.
Saiki begrudgingly stood up, placing down the item beside yours as he followed your way to the kitchen. He had not paid attention to the time, and was actually surprised that 2 hours had passed.
He didn't actually mean to stay this long, only wanting to play a round or two before eventually getting up to go home. But after the first loss, he wanted to leave on a good note, then the second loss, perhaps a coincidence. Then the third, and so on..
“Hm, I only have spam.. Is that okay?” Y/N quipped her head to look at the boy behind her, seeing him nod, she turned back around standing on her tippy toes as she tried to grab the last can of spam on the top shelf.
After cooking, the two settled down at the dining table to eat in silence. It wasn't uncomfortable, the two eased into it much quicker than they had expected. Saiki minded his own business, eating whatever was on his plate, often glancing next to the girl beside him.
“D’you wanna watch a movie after this?”
Saiki didn't answer, his gaze fell on the almost empty plate in front of him. His mind raced, the room growing more and more quiet. Albeit his primary instinct was to go home, to go back to the comfort of his own house so that he wouldn't need to deal with any more nuisances. A part of him eerily felt that same comfort here.
Y/N felt that the silence was too much to handle, clearing her throat as she spoke again. “...or I guess if you wanna go home...” her attention was on her empty plate, her lips pressed thin as she tried to cover the sheer embarrassment she had.
“It's fine.”
The words fell out of Saiki’s mouth quicker than he expected, looking away to avoid the female’s gaze. “Wh— Wait, are you sure?” the female looked at him for confirmation, “Don't wanna pressure you or anything.”
“I told you, it’s fine.”
It took a few seconds before Y/N finally caved in, settling back into her seat as she continued to eat the remainder of her food. The air fell silent once more, both visibly looked like they wanted to say something, but nothing was coming out of their damn mouths.
“..What movie?” Saiki reluctantly asked, maybe he was already regretting this, maybe.
“What about a horror movie!” The girl exclaimed, fiddling with her fingers as she tried to contain her excitement. This made Saiki look at the girl in question, “Do you like horror movies?”. His question didn't get the answer he expected it to.
“No, not really.” Y/N shrugged, leaning her body against the chair. “But, I like the thrill! The anticipation, the scare!” The words fell flawlessly from the girl who seemed to enjoy talking about horror movies more than actually watching them.
Saiki’s mouth pressed into a thin line as he listened to the girl ramble on about why she thought Horror movies were ‘peak.’
And if you looked closely enough, you’d see a small crease on his lips, forming into what some would call a smile. But if you asked Saiki about it, he’d deny it.
“You’re weird you know that, right?”
Although the words were formed in such a way some people would think would be an insult, Y/N’s face was unreadable. Her expression remained still, her lips pressed together as she tried to understand what he just said, unbeknownst to her, a smile had already formed into her lips.
Y/N laughed, “Pffft— are you saying I'm interesting?”. She turned to look at Saiki who had a blank expression, his mouth fell into an o-shape. Saiki looked away as the female continued to laugh.
“I said weird, you’re making it more dramatic than it is .”
Y/N snicked, her laughter echoing throughout the empty house. Her hands clutched her stomach as she tried to compose herself, earning a huff from the male beside her as he stood up abruptly.
It took a minute for Y/N to finally stop giggling to herself, finally realizing the male was no longer beside her. Though, if she had only taken a tiny glance at the male before he left, she would've seen a light tint on his ears as he left.
She took the liberty to clear the table, putting away the dishes before running off to the living room. Seeing Saiki sit abnormally still, she jumped towards the empty space beside him, shuffling herself as she made a fort with the pillows.
45 minutes into the movie, Saiki realized that Y/N was a liar. She was tucked away carefully in her pillow fort, barely even watching. His eyes glanced over to the girl every time a jumpscare appeared on screen, and as if on cue, she’d hide her face or even scream.
But ever so often, she’d have her hands clutched on Saiki’s shirt as if a lost kid. The touch didn't really irk the male as much as he thought, letting her hold onto him for the rest of the film.
After 10 more minutes, the screen showed black before listing off the end credits. Saiki shuffled around his seat, noticing the female's grasp on his shirt had lightened. He turned his head slightly to see that Y/N had fallen asleep.
‘What am I gonna do with you, Y/N?’
Gently lowering her body down onto the couch as he stood up, careful not to wake her, sighing to himself as he stared at her for what seemed to be about 5 minutes.
[Could he be any more obvious?]
He grabbed the blanket on the edge of the couch, covering it over her body. Saiki crouched down his body closer to her face, hearing the soft snores from the girl, he sighed to himself once more.
“Can’t even handle a scary movie.”
He turned his head, looking around the room to see if anything else was misplaced. Before walking towards the door, his eyes caught a glimpse of the clock on top of the mantle, 3:33.
The doorknob started moving, and sounds of keys jingling could be heard from the other side of the door, before Saiki could react and turn invisible, the door opened revealing Y/N’s mother.
‘What a pain, the situation I am in…’ Saiki's train of thought dispersed as his attention was brought back to the woman in front of him.
“Kusuo, here.”
Mrs. L/N or Misaki as she insisted him to call her, placed down a plate of cake. Saiki’s eyes trailed down, realizing it was the same cake from yesterday. “Eat up, I can't have my guest falling hungry.” she chirped, placing down an identical plate in front of her.
Misaki’s smile never faltered, eating her cake happily as opposed to the boy in front of her. The silence was deafening, Saiki had every bone of his body to not look directly at Misaki, because for whatever reason, he just couldn't handle the older female’s gaze without crumbling.
‘Why am I nervous all of a sudden?’
Of course this didn't last very long, Saiki caved in 20 seconds after staring at the cake in front of him. Misaki chuckled, watching the boy eating happily. “How is your mother Kusuo?” Misaki spoke up, breaking the silence between them.
Saiki hummed along a response, all too preoccupied with the desert. “It’s so nice of her to take the time to cook for Y/N.” she continued, resting her off hand on the table as her chin sat on top of her palm.
“And it's quite a surprise for me that you stayed to keep her company, that's awfully thoughtful of you.” she smirked, pausing for a brief moment before continuing. “Are you always this caring, or is it just for my daughter?”
The words hit Saiki like a truck, not like he’d know what it feels like to be hit by a truck. But it took him by surprise, his expression was blank but the way his mouth fell open, like to say something before closing it, showed Misaki there was definitely something more to it.
“I’m not sure what you mean, I only accompanied her because she’s a friend of mine.”
Misaki’s mouth formed into a small smile, pressing her lips together and letting out a small hum, almost like she was agreeing with him. “Perhaps that may be the case.. But, you know.. Most people would have just went home after a while—”
“..not unless they cared a little bit more.”
Those last words we’re like a warning bell in Saiki’s head, like an ambulance’s sirens, or a baby’s cry in the middle of the night, or the sound of your alarm early in the morning. Could it be that he cares, a little more than he thought?
‘No way.’
Saiki shrugged that thought off fairly quickly, but something tells him that it was far from gone. Misaki stared at the boy, seeing as he paid no response, she immediately spoke up again, “Could it be that there’s the tiniest chance that you care just a little more towards Y/N?”
Saiki looked up, meeting Misaki’s gaze. His expression remained still, flickering his gaze back onto the now empty plate in front of him. ‘..Even if that were the case, I wouldn't tell you.’
‘..Or anyone.’
Noticing Saiki’s stare on the plate, Misaki stood up from her seat and grabbed the plate before opening the fridge again, thinking that maybe the boy was hungry for seconds. “Ah, but I'm just teasing. Whether you admit it or not, I appreciate you looking out for my daughter.”
Saiki followed her movements, seeing her walk over towards the fridge, glancing up to look at the clock in their kitchen. 4:04 PM.
“Actually…” Saiki replied, Misaki turned her head to look at the boy expectantly. “I’m full, thank you for the cake, I don't need any more.” Saiki then stood up, startling the woman in front of him.
It took a moment, but when it finally hit her, Misaki chuckled at the boy. “I see.. Then, I guess you’re going home?” she quipped, tilting her head in amusement. Saiki nodded, as he bowed his head and turned to the living room.
Misaki followed the boy's movements towards the living room, before dropping down the leftover plates to the sink. Walking over towards the boy who was already crouched down, carefully putting on his shoes. “Thank you again Kusuo, for taking care of my daughter.”
Saiki stood up, and bowed once more, before turning his heel and leaving the house. Misaki watched the boy leave their front yard and turn the corner, before finally disappearing. Her head quipped back to see her daughter sleeping peacefully on the couch.
Her gaze softened, smiling to herself as she spoke “Hm.. Well, I suppose that’s to be expected...”. Closing the door before her as she walked back to the kitchen.

Chapter Text
Y/N walked through the halls, seeing all the half-empty classrooms, some students flocked in the stairwell to talk with their fellow schoolmates. Her eyes darted towards the clock which hung on the side of the wall. 4:00.
'Perfect!' She smirked, feeling all giddy as she realized that she could still make it home in time to watch her favorite show. Her attention brought back down to the small bag in her hands, the contents were her art materials that she had brought earlier this morning for a school art project.
Swaying it mindlessly, her steps light as she turned around the corner to go downstairs. Y/N turned the corner to see Hairo on the staircase standing. "Ah! Hairo-kun." Y/N beamed, walking over to him.
Hairo recognized the voice and turned around, "Ah, L/N, good to see you." Hairo smiled, shifting his weight to fix his posture. "You too! Thank goodness I bumped into you today.." Her words drifted off as she tried to reach for the zipper of her bag.
"Here, let me help you." He offered a hand, letting Y/N give him the small bag she had previously carried. "Ah, thank you.." her response was low, but Hairo seemed to have heard that, seeing as he replied with a short hum.
Carefully opening the zipper of her bag, Y/N brought out a bunched-up tissue paper. "Ah, sorry it looks messy.." she continued, giving him the wrapped tissue. "I was supposed to give you it during lunch time, but I couldn't find you."
Hairo looked curiously at the item, and realized it was their project. "Oh right, the project." He replied, examining it carefully, "Thanks for taking care of it over the weekend, Y/N." he smiled, giving her back the bag in his other hand.
"I knew I could trust you!"
Y/N looked away, feeling her cheeks burn a slight tint of pink. "N-No! It was fine..Thank you.". Her response was meek, considering her composure was broken after the sudden praise from her fellow classmate.
"No worries, from now on, I'll take care of it."
Y/N nodded, taking note of his strong determination. It was pretty funny to see him so motivated to take care of an egg. Thinking for a moment, Y/N realized that they still havent had the chance to photograph their progress together.
"I just realized, we haven't had a picture together with Miya." Y/N muttered under her breath, checking her pockets for her phone. "If you don't mind Hairo-kun, can we take a pic now, since we're all together?"
Hairo nodded, watching Y/N pull out her phone as she turned it around to face them. Y/N shifted closer to Hairo to fit them both in the frame, with Hairo carrying Mira in his palm. The timer ticked and took the picture.
Y/N hovered her hand carefully on the photo, a small smile creeping up on her lips. "Thanks Hairo-kun!" she chirped, finally turning to face him. "I gotta go! Goodluck!" Y/N waved goodbye as she descended from the other side of the stairs.
Reaching her house, Y/N took off her shoes, her eyes immediately darting towards another pair of shoes laid on their shoe rack. "Dad?" she yelled in the house, looking up as she saw her father sitting peacefully in the kitchen.
She skipped happily towards him, disregarding her bag somewhere on the floor. "I didn't know you were home today?" She replied, leaning her body against the table as she looked at her father who was sipping coffee, reading the newspaper.
Her father, L/N Akihiko was sitting in their kitchen, mindlessly reading a newspaper that seemed to be a week old. "Ah well, I thought work was boring today, so I got off early." he replied as he sipped a cup of what smelled to be coffee.
"You thought?" Her tone was sarcastic, sitting down beside her father as she grabbed his coffee, smelling its content. Her father glanced over to her, seeing her drink his coffee. "You're too young for that." He scolded, but still let her drink.
She smiled, "Yet you gave me beer back in America?" looking at him with a deadpan expression, Akihiko was quick to shush her up. "Shhh.. dont tell your mother about that okay?" He gestured to her to keep quiet, holding up his index finger over his mouth.
"Besides, It was root beer anyway. You'll be fine."
Y/N rolled her eyes at her fathers words. "So responsible of you, dad." she giggled, before hoisting herself up from the seat. Going back to the spot on the floor where she had thrown her bag, she picked it up and made her way upstairs to her room.
Her eyes trailed over her phone, before going back to the opened textbook in front of her. She couldn't concentrate, feeling like she was forgetting something important. This went on for about 2 more minutes before she gave into the temptation and pushed whatever she forgot to the back of her mind, grabbing her phone as she scrolled through her notifications.
Remembering that she had asked Hairo's number the other day, she skimmed past through her contact list, stopping it as her hand hovered on top of the 'message' button. She thought about it for a moment, she knew that she needed to tell Hairo about this sooner or later, or else they'd fail their project.
But damn it, why was it so awkward? It's like you're asking him out on a date. 'Are you asking him out on a date?!'
Y/N shaked those thoughts out of her head, 'No way. This is all in a friendly manner.' she huffed, holding her breath as she typed out the following sentence:
[ Hey Hairo-kun, it's me Y/N btw. I just wanted to ask you if you were free next weekend, since we still need to get at least 2 more pictures of us on the project, I was thinking maybe we could go hang out at the park? ]
Her eyes hovered over each and every word over and over again, placing down her phone strategically, that message won't be sent for another 5 minutes since Y/N was pacing around the room. Overthinking every little thing that could happen.
'Does it sound weird, wait should I word it like this instead..?!'
Her thoughts were broken when a notification pinged through her phone. It was the class group chat, Hairo had sent them a message reminder for tomorrow's activities. Being the class president sure did have its responsibilities.
Y/N realized a few seconds earlier finally about what she had forgotten. 'Oh yeah, the school sports fest is tomorrow.'
Walking back to her desk, she hovered over the message again, her hand shaking ever so subtly. This was getting dramatic, beating herself for even making this more of an issue than it really is. With one final exhale, she pressed sent.
This action gave her the drive to finally start doing her homework which was neglected on her table. Pushing her phone away with her sweaty hands, flipping open her textbook, slowly forgetting about what made her nervous just a few minutes ago.
The rest of class gathered outside of school. Beforehand, Hairo had given them a yellow sash and instructed all of them to tie it on our heads. Now outside, Hairo gave some speech about how they were gonna win all the games, Y/N could barely catch what he was saying, her attention was somewhere else.
"L/N, are you okay?" Yumehara chirped beside her, looking worried for her friend. The girl nodded, sending her a half-smile, the one where it wouldn't reach the person's eyes. Yumehara fiend doubt on her friend, but believed her anyways as she didnt wanna press on if Y/N didn't want to tell.
Yumehara linked their hands together, "Okay then! Just lean on me for the meantime, okay?" she jutted her thumb to herself, giving Y/N a toothy smile, which made her return a smile as well.
"Class 3 go!" Hairo yelled, bringing their attention back to the rally. Y/N cheered along, as she didnt wanna bring the vibes down. But she herself felt like something was wrong today, like she was forgetting something, again.
Her eyes landed on her parents near the audience, squinting slightly as she waved her hands to catch their attention. Which worked, her mom waved back, her free hand holding a camera, and her father smiled in her direction. It comforted her at least.
The games were starting, and the students that were chosen to play for this event started warming up and getting ready. Yumehara pulled Y/N towards the direction where Saiki was, her body just limped away, not really minding being dragged around.
Yumehara greeted Kaidou, he stared down at his hands, wiggling them obnoxiously. Y/N couldn't help but giggle, hearing him say about how this sports event was stupid, and Nendou had told him it was because he sucked at sports.
How those two were friends, you'll never know.
"Saiki! Are you pumped right now!" Hairo exclaimed, facing Saiki with such burning passion in his eyes. How does this man not get tired? Y/N slumped her shoulders slightly, feeling like her body was heavier than it normally was.
"Our competition!" Hairo retorted, making everyone turn their attention to the rest of the classes. Class 1 had red headbands, their flag's symbol was a circle. Hairo explained the rest of the classes, making note not to underestimate them.
The first event, the 100-meter dash. Everyone lined up in their respective areas. Y/N's eyes looked around the players, slightly taken aback when she saw Saiki as one of the few people running.
It had been a few days since Saiki's visit to her house, and when Y/N woke up, she was greeted with the presence of her mother, instead of his. A part of her wondered if what happened was a dream, but of course her mother had mentioned it, assuring her that what happened was not in fact a dream.
During their dinner, her mother teased her endlessly, "Wow, isn't Kusuo such a sweet boy? Right honey?" she chirped, nudging her husband's arm who only grunted in response. He looked displeased at the mention of a boy but nonetheless agreed. "I suppose.... But I still can't believe you left the two of them alone."
Misaki giggled at her husband's complaint, "Oh come on dear, Kusuo is a good kid, he wouldn't do that." she assured him, turning her head to face her daughter, sending her a wink. Confused at the gesture, Y/N looked down at her food, picking it off as her mind drifted back to the pink haired boy.
GAME #1
The class erupted in cheers; their voices of encouragement faded into the distance as Saiki tuned them out. His focus was set in front of him, 'Sorry but I don't care about winning.' he thought, getting ready for the go-sign.
'I don't want to bring attention to myself.'
"Ready! Set....go!"
The players then ran accordingly, the sound of students cheering for their own team clouded his thoughts. Saiki was keeping pace with the rest of the players, his eyes shifting left and right to see his competition.
Right now, he was running behind just one person, a little too conspicuous for him. He knew what to do, deliberately slowing his pace down to 4th place. This was just the right pace for him, he didnt wanna win, but he also didn't want to lose knowing that his like-meter would go down to the depths of the earth if he did so.
The players turned the corner slightly, they were almost back to the starting line. Saiki's eyes subconsciously glanced over to the sidelines, seeing his parents cheer for him. His mother was waving frantically for her son, while his father? He was filming his mom, so much so for support.
He shrugged, bringing back his focus to the race. He was almost there, just a few more, and this will be over with.
"Go Saiki!"
Saiki's eyes flickered back to the sidelines. He recognized that voice, and it sort of shook him. His movements felt faster, and before he could even realize it, they had passed the finish line already.
"Class 3 finished in 3rd Place." The announcement echoed through the fields, and Class 3 cheered for their classmate. Saiki stood there, still shaken and dumbfounded. What the fuck just happened?
The rest of Class 3 huddled around him, the rest were congratulating him but the words would just go through the other end of the ear. Hairo's words pulled him out of his trance, "Saiki! Holy crap dude, you got 3rd!"
"I don't get it, Why is everyone so excited?"
Hairo went on to explain that his competitors were members of the school's track and field team. Saiki deadpanned, the shift in his expression was subtle, he internally face palmed.
"Good grief, It would have been nice if you told me this before."
After completing the run, Saiki walked towards the rest of the students who were seated near the sidelines. He spotted Y/N as well, sitting on one of the seats while chatting with Yumehara. The two of them haven't spoken since his friendly visit at her house, he didn't really know what to say.
Whatever happened in their house will stay in their house, and Saiki couldn't be more glad when Y/N had also decided not to speak about it. Despite not ever mentioning it verbally, it played in the back of Saiki's mind. Before he knew it, his thoughts began to drift to her, recalling their first introduction of Y/N.
It's been almost a month and Saiki could still not understand why his mind reading nor could his x-ray work on her. At first, he thought she was just like Nendou, he was unable to read his mind, but that was soon proven wrong when you weren't really like Nendou.
And Saiki could x-ray through Nendou, so what exactly was it that made Y/N so special? Apart from that, there were no other physical attributes that could explain why this was the case, and Saiki slowly just started accepting it as it was. If he couldn't find an explanation, who in the hell could?
The answer? Kus—
"Hey Saiki! Good job out there!" Nendou exclaimed, sending the boy a thumbs up. "Although, I definitely feel like I could beat you!" he retorted, bringing his hand to his chin as if to think of the probabilities of that ever happening.
Saiki's expression remained still, nodding along to what Nendou had said. His sudden interruption broke him from his train of thought, and in all honesty, Saiki was thankful. He didn't want to remember him.
GAME #2
His attention was brought back to Nendou, "Ooo, it's time for me to go to work!" he exclaimed, about to stand up before being cut off by another classmate. "I'm up. I'm running in the three-legged-race, not you."
Saiki glanced up at the boy, narrowing his eyes down. 'Who are you?'
"My name is Sawakita, but you don't have to bother remembering it. I'm just here to play a supporting role."
'Now he's narrating?'
"From my grades to my looks, everything about me is average, I was born average. But then, winning a single rock paper scissors game brought a ray of hope into my life. I'm running in the three-legged-race with Teruhashi. It's a memory I can cherish for the rest of my average life."
'You're especially dramatic.."
Teruhashi turned around to greet Sawakita, her aura radiating from the field. "Try your best, Sawakita!" Teruhashi cheered, giving the boy an earnest smile. Despite the fact that she just narrated what Sawakita thought in his head word for word.
Teruhashi walked closer to him, grabbing ahold of his hand as she smiled. "Let's win this together!" earning a nod from the boy.
"If we win this, let's celebrate! Alone...together...."
"On your marks, set....go!" The teacher yelled, firing the shot. Almost immediately, Sawakita ran with so much force, carrying Teruhashi bridal style. Despite not really being a three-legged race, seeing as Teruhashi didn't really run, they still won 1st place.
GAME #3
"Scavenger hunt race, wonder which one of us is gonna do that." Nendou laughed, pointing his fingers towards the list of games that were up next.
"You are."
"..Oh yeah."
The players lined up, a total of three students per class were chosen to compete in this game. While the rest stayed on the sidelines, Hairo cheered them on, his hopes and spirits high that his fellow classmates could at least get 2nd or 3rd place.
Y/N continued to watch from her spot, her chin resting on her hands, watching as Nendou ran past the students from the other class. Reaching the checkpoint first, he crouched down to grab a piece of paper on the floor.
"Haha! I won!" He cheered, looking around proudly before Hairo yelled at him that the game wasn't yet finished. Nendou read what was written carefully, looking around before he seemingly had an epiphany.
Nendou sprinted towards the sidelines, almost crashing into a few students. Stopping right in front of Hairo who thought Nendou needed a racket, before he pushed the item aside as he walked closer to Saiki. "Not that, I need this!" he pointed, and before Saiki could react, Nendou had taken off his emitter.
Saiki's vision blurred into nothingness, his body going limp as he fell to the floor.
A few gasps dispersed as the students huddled around the boy. Y/N immediately got up from her seat, rushing past the sea of students to see Saiki on the floor unconscious.
"...Are you feeling okay?" Kaidou questioned, his face filled with worry as Saiki pulled himself up to sit down. "You fainted when Nendou took that thing out of your head, so I tried to put it back." Hairo pointed his index finger to the antenna being back on Saiki's head.
"Woah... I almost lost my buddy."
Y/N watched carefully, obviously feeling worried and tense. She wasn't there when it happened, since she was at least a few feet away, but when she heard students rush over and Saiki's name being called out, it was like a pit was growing in her stomach, and it was going to swallow her whole.
Nendou apologized haplessly to their class when they didn't win, obviously because they couldn't even complete it. Y/N tuned them out as they argued, watching Saiki who looked somewhat annoyed.
The speakers announced the current scores of each teams, Y/N looked over to see the bulletin board, and they were in 4th place. 'Well, it can't be helped.' sighing defeatedly, "Good effort you guys."
Turning her head back around and finding out that Saiki had disappeared. How the hell does he manage to do that? Her eyes scanned the crowd once more; everyone was getting ready to go eat their lunch which made it even harder for her to spot him.
The crowd was getting to her as well, everyone brushed past her like she was nothing and the constant bumping of people started irritating her. Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath as she tried to calm down.
Yumehara inched closer, tapping on her shoulder which made her flinch a bit in surprise. "L/N, aren't you going to eat?" jutting her thumb behind her towards the direction of the cafeteria, Yumehara's other hand carrying a bento box. Y/N shook her head, declining her offer.
"Ah, no. I need to do something first, you guys go ahead."
'I'm not feeling so hot.' Saiki's thoughts were running at 90 miles per hour. 'It doesn't matter if it was only out for a second, it's still causing me all sorts of problems. The antenna Nendou had removed was a kind of control device.'
'The psychic powers I was born with have only gotten stronger as I grew older, and by 5th grade I could already lift a skyscraper with just my mind. I probably could have blown up the moon, If I wanted to.'
But of course, with great power comes with—
'Wrong show.'
All these powers made it much harder to control.
'Blowing up my house would be the least of my problems. What's really dangerous is my mind control powers, I could destroy the entire human race with just one single thought.'
To restrain those powers, Saiki wears those antennas to help limit his abilities, but it cannot be stopped. 'My body's not listening to me... And at this rate, I could really hurt someone.'
Truth be told, Y/N didn't have anything else to do, but crowds were the farthest thing from what she needed. Grabbing her bento from her bag, she sneaked away to the back of the school in hopes for a quiet break from all the noise.
Turning her heel around the corner, Y/N stopped in her tracks when she saw Saiki sitting against the wall. His bento placed carefully on his lap; he didn't seem to have noticed her yet. For a split second, Y/N didn't move, unable to take her eyes away from him.
After what happened earlier with him passing out, it would be no surprise that she was worried. Her friend just passed out and now here he was, sitting all alone, eating his lunch. It kinda looked pathetic, but it brought a small smile to her face.
A soft chuckle left her mouth, making Saiki quip his head in her direction, notifying him he wasn't alone. "Ah... sorry, I was just..." her voice dipped into a whisper, leaving her last words incoherent.
Saiki jolted a bit in surprise, unexpectedly snapping his chopsticks that were in his hands. Closing his bento, neatly wrapping it back up as he tried to stand up.
Keyword: Try.
"Wait, where are you going?" Y/N inched closer, raising her hand up to try and stop him before he could fall. "I'm going home."
Saiki's legs wobbled slightly when he finally got himself to stand up, Y/N jumped closer to catch him. "Are you okay now?"
Y/N winced internally at her choice of words, mentally cursing herself for asking such a stupid question. Saiki took a second to process the sheer ridiculousness of her words, his eyebrows slightly raised, and for a split second, you could have seen somewhat of a smile on his lips.
"Do I look fine to you?"
Y/N shook her head; a light chuckle left her lips as she tried to mask the embarrassment. "Guess not, but you know that's not what I meant." her grasp on his shoulders slightly tightened as he led him to crouch down back on the floor.
"Can you even go home alone in this state?"
Saiki did not respond. He could've just teleported back home, but he wasn't going to tell you that. He weighed his options again, taking note of the fact that his parents had gone home after the first game, so asking them to take him home was out of the question. Teleportation would work, but he had to consider the fact that his antenna was recently removed, he could barely even control his chopsticks, much less his powers.
Now backed into a corner, Saiki had no choice. It wasn't like him to ask for favors, but then again, you did kind of owe him after that day in your house. Bringing his face to face hers, Saiki stayed quiet as his eyes drifted from feature to feature. It wasn't his first time seeing you this close, but still, he couldn't help himself.
"You look like you're about to pass out again."
The air around them was chilly, despite the lack of chatter the silence was comforting. Her reply was met with silence, after a couple seconds of back and forth bickering in her head, she sucked in her breath, hoisting herself upwards leaving Saiki back down on the floor, turning her heel towards the corner.
Stopping before she was out of sight, "I'll be back... Wait here, okay?"
Leaving Saiki alone, he took the time to calm down his nerves. He was still a bit shaken from what happened earlier, and it seemed like it would take a while before he could fully return back to normal and control his powers regularly again.
It wasn't long before Y/N came back, two bags slung over on each side of her shoulder, "Come on, I'll take you home." reaching her hand out for him to take, she looked a bit out of breath. As she walked towards Saiki, stopping right in front of him, reaching her hands outward.
Saiki's eyes fixated on her hand, taking him a couple of seconds before he took it. Mentally taking note of the obvious warmth, your hands radiated compared to his. "I already told the teacher so it's okay for us to go home."
Y/N's hands dropped down to her side as she waited for the person on the other side to answer. The door opened wide revealing Mrs. Saiki, she was wearing an apron and looked like she was cooking something. Her eyes trailed down to the girl before landing on the boy beside her.
"Oh my goodness! Y/N, Saiki!" Her voice laced with panic as she dried her hands on her apron, moving aside to let them inside. "I totally like, didn't expect you to come home so early." Saiki glanced to his mother, his brows pursed slightly on his forehead.
'Good grief, your acting could use some work, mom."
The moment we left the school grounds, Saiki telepathically messaged his mother that he would be going home, wondering if he should leave out the reason why he'd be going back home. He didn't want her to worry endlessly before they could even arrive, although knowing his mother, she already was.

Chapter Text
Rushing past her mother in the kitchen, Y/N stopped in her tracks to crouch down near the doorway. Kicking her feet as she put on the last of her shoes, pushing herself upwards as she grabbed her hoodie which hung on the rack.
"Mom, I'm going out!"
The sounds of dishes clattering echoed in the kitchen, Y/N waited for the go-to her mother would say. Her mothers head peeking out on the corner, a sly smile on her face as she spoke. "Have fun on your date!"
Y/N deadpanned, staring at her mother like she grew two heads. "It's not like that and you know it!" she managed to yell out before closing the door behind her, but not without making her mother laugh.
The moment she got out, Y/N let out a sigh of relief, clutching the hem strings of her hoodie. This wasn't a date—no really. It wasn't. It was simply for school purposes. After Sports Day, you and Hairo finally got the chance to go and do your project.
The criteria for this were that you needed at least 3-5 pictures together with your partner and your assigned egg. The egg should still be intact after 3 weeks or so, and the teacher would grade it by: safety, documentation, and teamwork.
'This'll be a piece of cake.'
Pushing her feet forward to gain momentum, picking up her feet as soon as she's high enough on the swing. Her eyes dart back on the empty park, her hair catching wind as she swings back and forth.
Y/N's eyes catch movement over the park's entry way, seeing Hairo jog up, taking a couple of moments before he caught sight of her on the swings, running up to her. "Hey, did you wait long?"
Y/N shakes her head, looking up at the boy in front of her who was sweating profusely. Tilting her head as she raised an eyebrow at him, Hairo didn't miss the curious look Y/N gave him, taking a huge breath before he answered, "I was jogging since morning, I just finished."
Y/N blinked at him, looking up and down. "It's 10 AM...?"
Hairo nodded, not understanding what she was trying to say. "Yeah, so what?" he replied, his tone dismissive. Hairo was wearing a red hoodie with the sleeves cut off, paired with a pair of red track pants and, you guessed it, red shoes.
Pushing herself off the swing set, Y/N stood up, her hands reaching to hold her sling bag, carefully zipping it open, revealing Miya—their egg.
"D'you know where you wanna go today?"
Y/N shakes their head, realizing that she hasn't really thought about it until now. Bringing her hands up to her chin, she thought for a moment, trying to recall all the possible places they could hang out for today.
"How about we just walk around the plaza?" Hairo comments, noticing the torn look on your face as you try to think about where to go. You pause for a moment, before briefly nodding along. The two of them made their way out of the park to the plaza.
Once they reached the center plaza, the both of them decided to get something to eat, considering it was almost lunch time when they arrived. Y/N's eyes wandered around the food stalls, and thinks to herself that this was oddly similar to the time with—
"Takoyaki over there!"
Hairo raised his index finger as he pointed towards the direction of the stall, the two of them headed forward. Stopping in front of the store, the old lady pointed towards the menu sign in front of her stall.
¥99
"Two please." Hairo spoke up, his hands digging into the pockets of his pants, holding his hand out with the money. Y/N watched as he paid for their food, embarrassment creeping in. "Hairo-kun, you didn't need to pay."
Hairo shook his head, raising his palm flat as a way to refuse. "It's fine, my treat," he replied, pushing her hand as he turned back to the lady.
Y/N tuned out whatever conversation Hairo had with the lady, looking down on her palm, the spot he touched maybe kinda sort of burns—figuratively.
'What the hell...?'
A voice pulled her out of her thoughts, a hand brushing on her shoulder making her turn her head to look, Hairo held his hand out as he offered her a small paper plate filled with takoyaki. Y/N takes it from his hand, muttering a small thank you as she pokes one with a toothpick.
The two continued to walk around the plaza, finding a bench nearby they decided to take a seat to rest. Y/N placed her food on her lap, digging through her bag for her phone. Hairo grabbed his phone from his pocket, raising it slightly above them.
"Look up." Hairo spoke up, holding his phone high, the camera opened on selfie. Y/N looked up, pausing briefly for a moment, raising the egg to appear on screen before smiling to the camera, her smile reaching to her eyes as Hairo took the photo.
"Alright! Let's take a lot of pictures, okay?" Hairo asked, lowering his hands to check the picture, Y/N continued to eat her Takoyaki humming in agreement.
Saiki briskly walked through the aisles, stopping in front of the snacks section, his eyes watching closely at the options available, bringing his hands to his chin in thought.
'This is the coffee jelly I normally buy, this brand is ¥183 for a three pack—which is a great deal.' In his mind, Saiki was weighing his options carefully and meticulously, calculating the pros and cons of his purchase. A few people passed by, walking past as they eyed the odd man who was taking too damn long to pick a coffee jelly.
'Which option promises the most satisfaction'
Saiki decided to get the three-pack, coming to the conclusion that he would be able to buy twice as much, unlike the ¥138 singular pack. As he was about to put those in his basket his eyes noticed the nutritional portion of the product, his eyes landing on its net weight. Coming to the realization that even though the 138-pack had less quantity, it made up for it on quantity instead.
His hands dropped back down, putting back the three-pack as he reached over to get the singular ones instead. 'Obviously, quality beats quantity.' Saiki concluded, his mind made up—momentarily, before he second guessed it again.
His allowance was ¥3000, and if he decided to buy the ¥138 pack, so he would have 21 coffee jellies—'Enough to cover my entire desk!' but wait, his head moves back to the direction of the three-pack, calculating how much he'd have if he did buy it, 'I could get 16 packs, and that times 3 makes—48, I could make a bed out of it!''
'Should I buy the three-pack after all?'
Suddenly Saiki's eyes caught sight of an exclusive coffee jelly sold on the shelf for ¥2,950—Premium coffee jelly, it said. His eyes widened, 'It's just one serving, and they're charging almost ¥3000 for it? That's obscene'
You're right! It is, because who would even spend that much on coffee jelly—'I would.'
Ah.
Saiki held onto the bag tightly, feeling excited to go home and to finally taste the coffee jelly. But honestly, what was he thinking? It was priced at an absurd amount, and the net weight wasn't even all that, how premium was this coffee jelly? 'Well, if it's not up to standards, I can always just blow up their factory.'
Walking around cautiously, his eyes shifted from corner to corner as his paranoia grew. 'Walking around with a ¥3000 coffee jelly, I'm practically begging to be mugged.' his hold on the bag tightened. He could always just teleport, but that would raise too much suspicion, he could just teleport the jelly instead, but that has a lot of complications as well.
If Saiki ever wanted to aport an item, he'd need to have a similar item of the same worth; or at least within a 10% difference as the one he wants to aport, kind of like an exchanging system. It was too much of a hassle for the boy, opting to just stay cautious to his surroundings—that was always free.
As he continued walking, he felt a sudden disturbance in the force, a ball was heading towards his coffee jelly, within seconds it shot upwards instead. Saiki used his Psychokinesis to shoot the ball up—never to be seen again.
"I'm real sorry sir, are you okay?" A child yelled, running towards him.
'Oh I'll be fine, can't say the same to you after what you did.'
"Oh sorry pal-" Nendou walked up right beside the kid, placing a hand on his head as he apologized. Saiki deadpanned, his expression going back to normal, "On second thought, I'll let you off the hook if you just go away."
"Hey, you know this guy?" The kid looked up curiously, looking at Nendou who then explained how he knew his buddy. Saiki pushed himself upwards, dusting off his clothes. 'How do you always show up at the worst possible time?'
The kid looked around frantically, a worried expression on his face, "Hey did you see a ball here somewhere?"
"It's just a ball right, it couldn't have gotten that far!" Nendou explained, as he crouched down near a bush to look for it.
'Actually, it did, which is why I'm looking for it using clairvoyance.' After a couple of tries, Saiki sighed, coming to the conclusion that it was just merely impossible for it to be found. 'Sorry kid, I give up.'
Although Saiki was the one that sent it up to space, it was technically the kid's fault for hitting it over to him—is what Saiki thought. "I'm going to head home now and enjoy this coffee jelly." Saiki replied, excusing himself.
"Don't worry kid, I can just buy you a new one!" Nendou replied, trying to console the kid who was near to crying. "No! It has to be that ball!" The kid answered almost immediately, tears pricking his eyes, "My grandpa gave it to me right before he died, so it's really special to me."
Nendou looked at the kid with a worried look, pushing himself off the ground as he replied, "I see." pausing for a moment before he continued, "Well in that case, we're sure as hell gonna find it!" his tone back to its usual enthusiastic manner. The kid smiled, his spirits somewhat lifted, "Thank you sir." the kid replied, turning his head and realizing that the pink haired stranger already left.
'What a pain, this thing's so lost I had to use thoughtography.' Saiki sat in the bathroom stall, holding out a piece of paper he found in his pockets, the back showing him where the ball was—under water. 'Clairvoyance won't help me then, gotta try something else. Maybe I can aport it.'
Saiki laid out the items he found on the toilet lid, a pen, piece of paper, a keychain, some wallet and ¥500. Holding out his hands outwards as he tried to aport the item back.
Saiki walked back to the two who were still rummaging around the ground, overhearing the conversation they had, he paused. 'I see, so that's why.'
What happened earlier was when Saiki tried to aport the ball, he was surprised to find that the items he had laid out on the lid did not disappear, instead the one that did was his precious coffee jelly.
"Hey! You found my baseball!" The kid yelled out happily, Nendou turned his head to see Saiki holding the baseball in his hand.
"Wow, thank you mister. I can't tell you how glad I am to get it back!" The kid rejoiced, chirping out words of gratitude to him. With a helpless look, Saiki sighed, looking at the kid whose smile reached his eyes. 'Oh well, I could always buy that coffee jelly some other time.'
Y/N's eyes wandered over the sky, which was colored in saturated colors, a mixture of orange and pink laid upon them, the sun setting in the distance. Hairo was holding their egg in his off hand; the other one was holding ice cream. The whole day the two hung out, walking around the plaza aimlessly.
"This was fun, Hairo-kun!" Y/N stated, her eyes trailing down to the melting ice cream on her hand. "Likewise! I'm glad the project is finally done too!" Hairo replied, enjoying his ice cream, a brief moment of silence was shared as the two continued to walk back to Y/N's house.
When the two finally arrived, Y/N walked ahead to the front door, before going inside she turned her head again to see Hairo waving to her at the gate. A smile crept up her face as she waved back. "Bye Hairo! Thank you for today!"
Her hand turned on the doorknob, closing the door behind her as she breathed a sigh of relief, looking down at her palm, Hairo decided it was safer for Y/N to keep hold of their egg in the meantime, since he'd be busy at home, staring at the egg, a little more than she intended to.
"Y/N!" Her mother yelled, this time Y/N finally heard it, she quipped her head towards the direction of the call, her eyes meeting her mothers questioning gaze. "How was it?" she asked, wiping her hands on her apron as she approached her.
"It was okay."
Misaki watched her daughter closely, taking note of the obvious crease on her forehead and brows. "Was it that bad?" she replied, placing a hand on her shoulder. Y/N shook her head, "No, really, it was okay." she muttered out, her eyes shifted after just a few seconds of eye contact.
"I see..." Her mother paused, taking a closer look as she waited for her daughter to explain further, but it didn't come, she sighed, lowering her hand down to her side, turning her heel. "Well, go freshen up. Dinner will be ready in 5 minutes." she waved, walking back to the kitchen.
It was currently free time for the students, and while other students would be out of their seats, Y/N stared down at her notebook, her pen hitting her chin rhythmically, her brows furrowed in thought, her focus laid on the English question in front of her. After a couple of seconds she gave up, with a groan she planted her face down on the table.
"What! You went to the house of fortune telling Chiyo?" Turning her head slightly, just enough for her to be able to overhear one of her classmates talking outside, her ears perking up when she heard the words 'house of fortune'.
"Yeah! It was amazing, they told me I'd—"
Saiki, who had been listening in, already knew the house of fortune was bullshit, fought back the urge to roll his eyes, 'Good grief, How can people believe that sort of crap?'
"How naive, fortune telling are just ridiculous delusions concocted by false prophets trying to—"
Saiki tuned out the blue-haired boy, staring aimlessly in front of him. 'I'm sure you're delusional as well.' he shrugged, letting Kaidou continue on his rambling before noticing that Saiki was in fact not listening, with a dejected look, he walked away from his seat.
Y/N pushed herself to sit upright, taking a deep breath before exhaling loudly, this action caught the attention of Yumehara who skipped over to her table. Slamming her hands down on her table, making Y/N flinch as she looked up to see who it was.
"Yumehara! Don't scare me like that!" Y/N scolded her friend, who sent an apologetic smile, her hands reached her shoulders as she spoke, "Sorry N/N-chan, I just saw you were really down today, and I wanted to see if you were okay." her off-hand patting her head.
Y/N's head tilted slightly, "N/N-chan?" she asked, which made Yumehara yelp in embarrassment, "O-oh! Yeah Hehe... Sorry! I just thought it suits you!" she replied, rubbing the back of her neck.
"If you don't like it I can—"
"It's fine Yume-chan, is it okay if I call you that?" Y/N questions, as Yumehara nodded her head aggressively, "Y-yes!" she chirped, clasping her hands together.
"Anyways—Back to the topic! I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go with me and Teruhashi to the House of Fortune?" Yumehara leaned her body on the table, her hands placed on the edges of the desk as her eyes watched Y/N's reactions carefully.
Y/N thought for a moment, weighing the pros and cons of her decisions—she did want to see what all the fuss was about on the House of Fortune; not that she did believe in those types of things, psychics aren't real. But on the other hand, she did lowkey kinda wanna just go home.
'Oh what the hell.'
Y/N nodded, her lips forming into a smile, "Yeah sure, why not!" she replied, Yumehara cheered, fully expecting her friend to decline. "Yay! It'll be so much fun!" Y/N nodded along to her words, a part of her hoping she didn't just make a mistake.
There was a huge line that stemmed from the entrance to over two blocks long, the three of them stared frozen, realizing how much time it would take for them to even reach half-way. Dejected—Yumehara turns towards the two of them, an apologetic look. "Sorry guys, guess we can't go inside today." she replied, clutching the sling of her bag, her gaze fell on the ground.
"N-no! Its okay Yume-chan!" Y/N blared, waving her arms outward as she assured her friend that it wasn't her fault. Teruhashi nodded along, placing her hand out on Yumehara's shoulders as she spoke. "Y/N's right! It's not your fault the line is long today."
Yumehara looked up, a small smile crept up on her face, "Thanks...Maybe nex—"
Suddenly the crowd of people that once occupied the line moved aside, whispers started going around and it seemed like their eyes were stuck on one person—Teruhashi. A group of boys who were next in line, supposedly moved out the way, gesturing to her to go first.
"H-hey, we overheard you girls say something about not being able to go in... s-so you guys can take our place in line." One of the guys replied, bowing his head at a 90° angle, the obvious colored tint on his cheeks and ears. Teruhashi took a step back in shock, looking perplexed at the gesture that just happened in front of her.
"N-no! It's fine, you don't need to do that for me and my friends. I'm sure the people behind you would be upset if you—"
A mass group of people suddenly yelled out in disagreement, their voices mixed together to form one big answer. "It's okay with us!" they replied in unison, which made Teruhashi flustered, Yumehara and Y/N stood behind her with cheeky smiles looking at each other, knowing the advantage Teruhashi had, they didnt wanna miss this!
'Sorry Teruhashi!' the two girls thought out in unison, marching forward as they pushed Teruhashi along with them. "Thank you so much!" Y/N replied, waving her hand towards the group of people who tried to sneak a peek at their goddess. "We won't be long!" Yumehara added, closing the door behind her.
The three of them stood in the dark hallway, looking at each other in silence, Yumehara was the first one to break it, "Sorry about that Teruhashi—" her voice hung low, scratching the back of her neck feeling guilty in using her friend.
Teruhashi shook her head, understanding why her friends did that, she didn't blame them—in fact she thanked them in her head. 'Thank goodness you guys did that! I didnt wanna say it out loud!' Teruhashi smiled, her aura radiating more than usual. "It's okay Yumehara! At least now, we can actually go in!" she replied, assuring the girl as she linked her arms with hers, turning her head to Y/N who did the same.
The three walked further down the dark hallway, passing through a bunch of weird paintings and beaded ornaments, stopping in front of a doorway; instead of a door it was replaced with draped curtains. The three walked forward, their eyes taking a moment as they adjusted the sudden change of lighting in the room.
"Welcome to the house of fortune telling, please have a seat." An ominous voice gestured for the three to sit down, doing as the woman said, the three of them sat down in front of her. Y/N's eyes dropped on the table in front of her, a simple crystal ball sat on top of a cushion.
'How cliche'
"My name is Mikiko Clairvoyance, and it's a true pleasure to read you today." The lady rambled on, Y/N tuned half of it out, trying to get a feel for the place, it looked kinda sketchy. 'This place is popular?'
"I'm getting a very special aura from you." She pointed to Teruhashi, making the girl flustered, stumbling on her words. Y/N and Yumehara shared a look, before turning to face the woman again, "What is it that your hearts wish to ask?"
Teruhashi thought for a moment, unable to choose just one, her mind was racing with questions, 'Should I ask about my future? Who will I marry? Wait no! I should ask about Saiki-'
"Could it be trouble in the love department perhaps?" Mikiko questioned, before Teruhashi could even reply, Yumehara nearly jumped over the table to the woman, her chest heaving with excitement. "YES!"
*Bullseye, it's almost too easy. *
'Good grief, what a pain.'
Saiki stood in the corner of the room, his body turned invisible to not be seen. He was supposed to go home immediately after school today, but there was a sudden change of plans, and now he was here. In all honesty, he just wanted to check what the fuss was about, it had nothing to do with his classmates being here, they just so happen to be going to the same place.
[Sure buddy]
Now stuck in the room, he had no choice but to listen in, truthfully, Saiki already knew that this lady was all bullshit, he read her mind for goodness' sake, but it did kinda make him curious as to how this lady was going to 'predict' their fortune. And after reading Mikiko's mind, he knew you three were easy targets for the woman.
'Good grief, I expected them to fall for it, but I didn't know you'd believe all their nonsense, Y/N' Saiki watched carefully as his classmates; including you, were altogether interested with the question that Yumehara asked, "What's our soulmates like?"
Mikiko closed her eyes, her hands doing something weird over the crystal ball, her brows furrowed on her temple, "Hmm... I see... for you there!" she exclaimed, her index finger pointing towards Teruhashi, "Your soulmate is someone who is... handsome..." Mikiko paused, her eyes opening slightly to see her reaction.
*A girl like you would want your soulmate to be handsome and rich*
"..and totally loaded! —they're someone who will spoil you rotten, and only you."
Teruhashi's face turned red in a matter of seconds, Y/N and Yumehara looked at each other with knowing looks. 'That doesn't sound like Saiki at all!' the two of them thought out, their oblivious friend still blushing profusely, though she probably didn't even notice how wrong the prediction was.
Mikiko then turned to Yumehara, taking a quick glance at the girl before dropping her gaze down to the crystal ball. "Your soulmate is someone who is brave"
Yumehara leaned her body forward, her face showing what the lady wanted. A small smirk laid on her lips hidden from the three who listened in. "—and totally head over heels for you." she stated as a 'matter-of-factly.'
*This is too damn easy! Now I just need to do the last one. *
'Goodluck about that.'
Saiki watched intently as the woman closed her eyes again, a part of him was interested in what the lady was going to half-ass predict, considering he couldn't read Y/N's mind, he doesn't even know what she's thinking right now, that, and he also wanted to see how much of this woman can guess her type just from appearance alone.
'Y/N's not that easy to read, I should know.'
"Your soulmate... is someone who's funny and kind." Mikiko replied, her eyes peeking over at the girl, who looked unimpressed. Y/N deadpanned at her words, her brows furrowed as she thought about a specific person.
"Funny? I don't think he's a humor-type of guy.." Y/N mumbled, her eyes darting away from the woman who looked half-stunned and annoyed, Mikiko bit her lip as she furrowed her brows.
*Damn it, this girl already has a boyfriend?!*
'What.'
"E-Erm actually wait! I see I was wrong there—" Mikiko replied frantically, her mind racing as she desperately tried to pull something out of her ass to say. *This chick's harder to guess than I thought, her face is totally frozen, she must have someone in mind already.*
"..actually, I see your soulmate as..a really loyal" her words were slow and deliberate, cautious, her gaze lingered on Y/N, trying to see if it fit the description in her head. Y/N's eyes fluttered to look at Mikiko, a small smirk appearing on the woman's face.
* Bingo.*
"—and...reliable guy."
Y/N beamed, feeling her cheeks flush red as she tried to snap herself out of it. Yumehara was grinning from ear to ear, seeing her friend in a flustered state, Teruhashi was also smiling, a part of her was a bit surprised to see Y/N react that way.
*That was a bit of a surprise, I didn't know Y/N had a crush, how cute!* Teruhashi's mind flickered with excitement, happy for her friend.
'Me neither.'
"If you want, I offer charms for this specific situation!" Mikiko chirped, making them quip their head to her direction, her hands clasped together as she bent down under her desk, dropping the charms on the table, laying it out perfectly.
"These charms guarantee that you will meet your soulmate within the year!" she added, pointing down to the charms, "—for you three, I'll give a discount! ¥25,000"
'That's just a scam!' Saiki pointed out, not that he could be heard, but still—you'd be a fool to fall for that. His eyes scanned on the girl's expression, a part of him wanted to trust that they'd decline, but seeing as no one has said anything yet.
Y/N stared at the bracelet, her mind racing, knowing she doesn't do well with peer pressure, she bit her fingernails out of habit. "For all three charms...?" Y/N spoke up, breaking the silence, looking at the woman with hopeful eyes. Mikiko shook her head, "Nope! Each sold separately!"
The three sat there stunned, Yumehara slammed her hands on the table, scaring everyone in the room, through gritted teeth she replied, "O-Okay." her hands trembled as she tried to reach the zipper of her bag. Y/N quickly stood up, reaching her hands over to stop her friend from paying such an absurd amount.
"Yume-chan, what are you doing?" Y/N whispered carefully as to not let the woman hear, Yumehara blinked profusely, staring into the distance as she spoke, "N/N, I really want that bracelet."
Y/N sighed, dropping her hands down to her side, knowing that there was nothing she could say to convince her otherwise. Turning her head to look at Mikiko, her hands slammed on the table which made everyone else in the room flinch.
"Me too!"
Teruhashi was quick to stand up, a little stunned that her friends would actually buy such a thing, but then again, it wasn't like she wasn't interested in it either. "M-Me too!"
"Wow, your charm looks so cute Teruhashi!" Yumehara chirped, raising her wrist up to compare. Teruhashi raised her wrist, the blue and pink charm dangled on her hand, while Yumehara had an orange and blue charm. Y/N listened in their conversation; her fingers fiddled carefully on her bracelet that wore on her wrist.
"What color did you get Y/N?" Yumehara asked, turning her head slightly to face her, "Oh, I got a red and pink one." she replied, raising her wrist slightly to show off her bracelet. Yumehara and Teruhashi smiled as they continued to talk about when they would meet their soulmate. Y/N dipped her head down, looking at the bracelet, her mind raced to one person—Hairo.
She felt her cheeks blush at the thought; her brows furrowed on her forehead as she tried to brush the idea away. Her thoughts pushed aside when she heard a woman yell at them from behind, the three turned their heads, Mikiko running towards them in a frantic state.
"You girls, take your money back! I don't want it!" Mikiko spat out, before they could even respond properly, she shoved a wad of cash onto Y/N's hands before speeding off. "Hey wait! The bracelets!" Yumehara called out, "—Keep it! I found it in a junk shop!"
The three girls stood there dumbfounded, 'So the charm was fake.' Y/N dropped her eyes down to the bracelet on her arm, a weird feeling on her chest, she turned to look at her friends who seemed to have thought the same thing.
"Guess we should throw it away?" Y/N muttered, giving the girls their money back, Yumehara and Teruhashi couldn't look at each other's faces.
*So that old hag sold us a fake?! Me!? The perfect pretty girl —*
*Ugh seriously, I can't believe I fell for that! How lame...*
Saiki stood hiding in the corner of an alley, his hand on his bag as his head floods with their thoughts, sighing to himself. 'Good grief, I didn't need to do that. But I didn't want to give them the idea that some mere charm would guarantee them their soulmate.' he shrugged, walking out of the shadows trying not to be noticed by them.
"Saiki?" Kaidou spoke up, although his voice was hoarse and he looked like he just ran a marathon—that he did. Saiki deadpanned at his friend, being completely preoccupied with the fortune teller, he didn't notice their presence, shifting his eyes, beside him was Hairo who was pacing his jogs in place, a habit runners do as to not lose their rhythm.
"Oh hey Saiki!" Hairo cheered, his voice louder than he intended to, making the other girls turn their heads around at the familiar name. "Huh—Oh! It's Kaidou, Hairo, and Saiki!" Yumehara pointed, her cheeks flushed at the sight of Kaidou, who kinda looked like he was about to pass out.
The girls walked towards the three, Y/N shifted her gaze at the group, 'What an odd pair of people to be hanging out.'
*The charms worked! * Yumehara and Teruhashi both thought out in unison.
'Good grief.'

Chapter Text
Christmas, the time of joy and cheer, everyone gathered around in festivities to celebrate- Oh who are you kidding, you obviously hate it.
'What are you doing breaking the 4th wall?'
It doesn't matter, it's no fun trying to explain everything when you'll do anything to hate on it.
'Well, you're not wrong.' Saiki walked through the crowd, hearing everyone's thoughts was always inevitable, but hearing it in large amounts was giving him a headache, he wanted to get home fast.
Saiki quickened his pace, his thoughts about Christmas remained all the same, but maybe that was about to change-
'Stop that.'
The smell of turkey-or actually the lack there-of radiated around the house, making Y/N confused as she ran downstairs, her eyes scanning the living room before walking into the kitchen. "Mom, what food will you be making this christmas, I thought it was Turkey this year?"
"Food? Oh sorry honey, did I forget to tell you?"
Y/N raised an eyebrow at her mothers statement, her eyes glancing over to the table that was indeed empty, "Clearly, you know I was excited to eat your lasagna mom." she replied, looking dejected, which her mother laughed at.
"Sorry dear, change of plans! Your dad and I are going on a date!" she exclaimed, twirling around the kitchen as she showed off her date outfit. Y/N nodded along, "Okay.. but I'm getting the feeling I wont be there?"
Misaki turned to her daughter and grabbed her cellphone on the kitchen counter, "'Course not, You're going over to Kusuo's house for christmas." she replied, her voice emphasizing the word 'house' as she typed something on her phone.
Y/N deadpanned, her body stood there frozen as she watched her mother continue to type and scroll on her phone, her mouth agape as she thought about those words. "W-wait what? I don't get it, why?"
"Kurumi offered to do so, and well-It didn't hurt to take the offer!" Y/N stared at her mother in shock, her mouth even wider,
"Don't make that face it'll stick-"
"YOU'RE SELLING YOUR DAUGHTER TO GO ON A DATE?!"
Misaki dropped her phone down to her side as she looked up at her daughter, "Oh come on, I didn't sell you-yet." she joked, watching for her daughter's reaction, which didn't disappoint. Y/N was even more appalled at the thought that her mother would actually consider selling her to the highest bidder-'just like one direction' she thought.
"I know its not ideal, but your father and I thought you'd wanna spend christmas with your friends, you know when I was your age-"
Y/N rolled her eyes, a small smile hidden from her mothers gaze, "Don't patronize me! You just wanna go on a date with dad!" she exclaimed, raising a brow at her mother who didn't even try to deny it.
Misaki shrugged as she walked out of the kitchen into the living room, finding an empty seat she sat down, she patted down the seat beside her, making Y/N sit down, "If you really don't want to, you can come join dinner with me and your dad."
Y/N shook her head, fiddling with her ring that was placed on left hand, "No-Mom it's okay, you guys should go on that date." She replied with a smile, deep-down she didn't really care about which house she had dinner at, Y/N just wanted to have her parents have fun.
Misaki smiled at her daughter's words, placing a hand on her shoulder, giving her a hug. "Thank you honey, you enjoy it okay?" she whispered in her ear, Y/N smiled, nodding her head, "You guys too."
Saiki approached the obnoxiously decorated house, that was unfortunately his, reaching for the doorknob, he felt like there was something wrong, and wrong there was.
'Good grief, stop that.'
"Hey Saiki!" Y/N greeted his friend at the door, wearing the wrong kind of festive hat; beside him was his own mother who wore a Santa hat, a smile on her face as she greeted her son. "Welcome back Kuu-chan, Let's get this-"
"I invited Y/N over for dinner with us! When it comes to parties, the more the merrier right?" His mother chirped, grabbing the last plate of food to place on the table.
'I don't care about that, why is he here??' Saiki side-eyed Nendou from the living room, who was peacefully watching his cartoons. Kurumi followed his gaze and realized he was talking about Nendou. "Oh! I ran into your friend at the store, so I invited him too!"
'Good grief, are you inviting everyone you come across now?'
"I'm back! Merry Christmas, Santas here with presents!" A voice from the door spoke out, averting everyone's attention, there stood Mr. Saiki in a Santa outfit; Y/N struggled to keep her laughter in, finding it amusing that Saiki's dad was this cheery on Christmas to the point of cosplaying.
Kuniharu stared at Nendou who was oblivious to his arrival, walked up to his wife leaning in close to her ear, "I thought this was supposed to be just family?" he whispered, pointing his finger towards the boy on the couch.
"I mean Y/N is practically family, but now I look like a fool!"
'That's because you are.'
"Hello Nendou! I'm Kusuo's Dad, I've heard so much about you!" Kuniharu cheered, turning to look at Nendou who finally realized there was someone there. Nendou nodded, his face contorted into what he thought was probably a nice smile, but it just ended up with him looking creepy.
Kuniharu turned back to his wife, "Are you sure they're friends...? He seems more like the bully type." he whispered carefully, "Don't worry, He's a good kid."
Suddenly Nendou crouched down, his hand holding the now discarded Santa Hat and Beard on the floor, "This is a great costume, I thought you were really Santa!" With one simple compliment, Nendou unknowingly won over Mr. Saiki.
"Cheers!" Kuniharu raised his glass making everyone do the same, the dinner went off without any issues, Y/N was thankful for their hospitality, obviously not many would want a stranger to join their Christmas dinner.
"Y/N Dear, you seem quiet, something on your mind?" Kurumi questioned, placing a hand on her shoulder, the action made her flinch slightly, pulling her out of her thoughts, "Oh- No! It's nothing to worry about!" Y/N assured, giving her a reassuring smile.
"Alright... But you can always be honest with me dear. I'm here if you need someone to listen."
Those words echoed in Y/N's mind, her head hung low as she struggled to make up her mind, ultimately deciding to just get it over with, with a shaky tone she spoke up. "I don't get why you're letting me stay with you guys for Christmas, you know, most families would have declined."
Kurumi looked at the girl and smiled, patting her behind the back. "Is that what you're thinking? I mean sure, most families would have, but do you really think we're like them?" her tone was sarcastic, "My son is a psyh-" she suddenly yelped back, this action surprised Y/N who looked at her with a confused expression.
"E-Eh What I mean is, my son is psyched to have you, you know!" Kurumi stuttered, her eyes averting around the room, Y/N blinked, looking over to Saiki who was stuck in a conversation between Nendou and his father, turning her head around to face Kurumi again. "Really?"
"Of course! I know he doesn't show it often, but I know he appreciates his friends more than he lets on." Kurumi whispered reassuringly to the girl, Y/N couldn't help but smile at her words, but something still clouded in the back of her mind.
'Does Saiki think we're friends?'
'I planned to stay at home in peace today, but even in the New year's, I can't have anything go my way.'
"Ku-chan! Hurry up, don't fall behind!" His mother shouted for him; his parents were further ahead in the crowd now. Saiki made his way past the wave of people and reached his parents who were already at the top, rushing to stand beside his father, Saiki threw a coin and rang the bell.
'I don't really have anything to wish for, since I could just make it happen if I wanted to- I'm not religious neither so God or Budha, all the same to me.'
*Please let me win 200 million in the lottery- I beg of thee oh great Kusuo!*
Saiki glanced towards his father, raising an eyebrow slightly as he heard his thoughts echo in his mind, 'What you're praying to me now?' making him shrug, 'Oh well, guess it couldn't hurt to try it out too.'
Closing his eyes as he lowered his head down, clasping his hands together, 'Please let the rest of my New Year's Day be quiet. Thank you.' Feeling satisfied, Saiki made his way down the shrine, about to go home before he was stopped by-
"Hey there Saiki!"
'There is no God.'
Saiki deadpanned as Kaidou continued to ramble on about New Year's Day and how he was just coincidentally passing by- Of course, he knew that was all a lie.
Suddenly his parents crowded around him, the sight alone shocked Kaidou to the core, immediately fumbling over his words of introduction. "O-Oh yeah sure! Gr-reetings Ma'am Sir, I'm Je- Kaidou Shun! Kusuo's one of my greatest allies- I mean friends!"
"Wow! I can't believe Kusuo was able to make three real friends!"
'That's a bit harsh.'
Kurumi nodded along, "My wish this year was for Ku to get lots of friends, I can't believe it's already been granted!" she smiled happily, looking at Kaidou and Saiki. After their brief interaction, Kaidou excused himself to go to the shrine.
Kaidou threw in his coin and rang the bell, bowed exactly at a 90 angle and clapped his hands twice. *Please let me have more friends this year!*
"So, what did you wish for Kaidou?"
"H-huh? Well, it's a s-secret!" He replied, almost fumbling with his words in the process. Saiki sighed, this whole interaction already tired him, "Can we go ho-"
"Kaidou? Saiki? Wow, what a coincidence!"
"Oh! You must be Saiki's Parents! Nice to meet you, I'm Kineshi Hairo!"
"I can't believe my kuu has so many friends!"
'They're not my friends; they just follow me around...'
Saiki looked away from the interaction, sighing as he knew his chances of peace were shattered- it wouldn't be long before the other nuisance showed up.
And right he was, because right after Hairo excused himself to go to the shrine, Nendou quietly appeared behind him. Saiki's parents immediately recognized him, giving the boy a warm smile as he approached them further. "Oh hey guys! Why are you all at the shrine today?"
Saiki's parents went on to explain to Nendou what today's occasion was, seeing as the boy actually had no idea why everyone was at the shrine. "-And then you ring the bell and then right after ringing it, you bow twice and clap your hands twice, and you make your wish!" Kuniharu explained, bowing as Nendou followed. Saiki watched from afar, standing beside his mother who continued talking to Kaidou and Hairo. 'I just want to go home already-'
*I hope Kusuo finds a girlfriend next!*
'Wait what did you just ask for?-" Saiki half-panicked, wondering if he heard it correctly. It was kind of hard to determine which thought was which considering the large crowd, but he could have sworn he just heard his old man wish for something. Begrudgingly, Saiki relaxed his shoulders as he told himself that his father already made a wish, 'No way it'll happen.'
"Saiki? Funny seeing you guys here!" Y/N exclaimed.
Saiki didn't need to turn around to know whose voice that came from, but he also knew that you weren't alone.
*Is that who I think it is...!?*
'You've got to be kidding me.'
"Oh hey! It is you Saiki!" Teruhashi exclaimed, her face beaming with excitement, Y/N stood beside her and waved. Kurumi walked over to the girl with a smile, "Oh! Y/N, so nice to bump into you like this!" she exclaimed before shifting her gaze to Teruhashi who stood beside her.
"O-oh wow, It's Teruhashi!" Kaidou mumbled underneath his breath, Kurumi heard it and turned to look at the girl. "Wow! Are you one of Ku's friends too?" Teruhashi nodded and made her introduction, everyone practically fawned over the girl's presence. Y/N turned to look at Saiki, noticing how he wasn't saying anything, pressing her lips into a thin line as she walked closer to him, just enough for him to hear her talk.
"Are you okay Saiki?"
Saiki didnt say anything at first, only lowering his head before he nodded. "Are you tired?" Y/N questioned, her voice still low. Saiki nodded again, making Y/N chuckle slightly. "I don't suppose you like crowds?" she replied, turning to look at her friends and his parents.
"I really don't."
"Did you guys already do your wishes?"
Saiki nodded, and Y/N gave a short hum, "I see, then I better go too! Be right back!" she replied hastily, running off to the direction of the shrine but not before quickly pulling Teruhashi away to accompany her.
He watched as the two made their way to the shrine. Teruhashi dropped a coin and rang the bell as Y/N did the same, not that it mattered but Saiki was curious to know what she wished for.
After a couple of minutes, the pair ran back down towards the group, a little out of breath. Kurumi walked up to her with a smile, "What did you wish for Y/N honey?" she cooed, placing a gentle hand on the small of her back. Y/N looked away, her face flushed as she recalled her wish from earlier. "Ah, it's nothing important!" she replied meekly, though her expression remained.
"Hm alright... That reminds me, why aren't you with your parents today?"
Y/N blinked at her question before sighing her a smile, "Ah, my parents are working today. Something about overtime?" she continued to explain as Kurumi listened, "Really? But it's New year's." Kuniharu chimed in, leaning over his wife. You wince slightly while nodding, "It's nothing new; it was like this back in America as well." Y/N shrugged. Suddenly Saiki's parents covered their faces, a small sob came out of Kuniharu's mouth, "T-That's so sad..."
"W-what? It's fine really, I don't mind! And besides, Teruhashi is accompanying me today, so I couldn't be more glad!" Y/N replied, trying to ease the situation down, pulling Teruhashi slightly by the arm.
Saiki sat quietly on his seat in the loving warmth of his home- and the presence of his classmates.
'Good grief, how did it end up like this?' Saiki sat, hunched in the corner as he watched his classmates interact with his parents, eating his food in his house. Oh the monstrosity.
"Wow! This is so good! Is it different from when we ate dinner during Christmas?" Y/N questioned, holding the bowl closely to her chest as she munched on the food. "Oh, yes! I'm surprised you noticed Y/N, I decided to do something different with it today!" Kurumi chirped, smiling happily. "Y/N's right, it is good. I hope you can teach me someday Mrs. Saiki!" Teruhashi chimed in, smiling at the woman.
Kurumi nodded, "Oh that'd be wonderful, I'd love to!" Teruhashi smiled along and Y/N continued to fill their bowl with food. "Thank you!" The party dragged on, and Saiki got up, probably to hide until they left. His movements slowed slightly when he approached the door frame, giving him time to eavesdrop a bit on their conversation before he leaves.
"No, thank you! All of you- for being Kuu's friends."
"You don't need to thank us, Mrs. Saiki! We're glad to be Saiki's friends!" Hairo cheered and everyone nodded along.
Kurumi smiled at the boy's words; she couldn't help but shed a tear. "I'm just so grateful for you... My Kuu's has had a really hard time making friends, you know with him being a Psychic and all-"
Saiki stopped mid-way out the door; everyone at the table was silent, you could practically hear a pin drop.
'Well, at least it's quiet now.'
Y/N stuttered her movements, almost dropping her chopsticks on the floor as she tried to mouth out the words. "W-what do you mean by he's a psychic?"
'Okay calm down, don't panic. It's fine, all you need to do is lay it on as a joke and change the topic.'
"Hey... you know that one manga logo in the Shonen Jump, the pirate one?" Kuniharu announced, clearing his throat ever so subtly. Everyone muttered out a soft hum of curiosity in response, "Well get this- if you flip it 90° it totally looks like a side-profile of a young girl."
Everyone at the table stared in silence, a few unimpressed looks were exchanged by few, and some just looked confused. 'How are you gonna get past this one, pops?' Saiki panicked.
Suddenly Nendou grabbed the manga from the shelf with the logo and turned it 90° and after a pause, he excitedly yelled. "Oh yeah! It totally does!
'Well, I guess it worked.'
Everyone suddenly crowded near to get a glimpse at the manga, a few uttered in disbelief at the fact that it actually did look like a side-profile of a young girl.
"Wow! I see her!"
"That's so cool!"
"So, my buddy's a psychic huh?"
'Get out.'
"Thank you so much for the dinner!" Hairo exclaimed, bowing at the two before turning around, Y/N was the last to come out of their gate, rushing past to catch up with her friends, not before being stopped by Kurumi. "Y/N dear, can you give this to your parents when you go home?" she replied, handing her a small bento, the wrapper pattern being of small pink hearts.
"Oh sure, no problem Mrs. Saiki. Thank you so much again!" Y/N replied happily, taking the bento off from her hands, holding it closely to her chest. She looked behind her slightly, seeing her friends had already walked a bit of distance from the house. "Please, call me Kurumi!" she chirped once more, draping her hands over Y/N's which carried the box carefully.
"You're practically family now, I insist." The two exchanged smiles, and Y./N nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed that one of her friend's parents would say that to her. She was unsure what she meant by 'family' cause although she had been in Japan when she was a kid, it was only a distant memory now, Y/N shrugged, waving it off as something not important.
"O-okay Kurumi-san.." she replied, testing to see how it would come out of her mouth, although she decided right before to use honorifics, just to be safe. Kurumi smiled at her efforts.
"Ah, I'm sorry for making you wait... It seems like your friends have already gone far." she pointed, looking behind her to see the silhouettes of her friends not there anymore. Y/N shrugged casually, "It's fine, I go the other way anyways." she replied, as she turned the corner and out of the gate.
"I can't let you do that; you'd be walking alone! Let me ask Kuu-chan to-" Kurumi stopped to retract her words, Y/N turned around curiously to see what happened. "Ah... on second thought! Let me get my husband- Honey!-"
"I heard my name."
Saiki suddenly appeared right beside Y/N, making her flinch and take a step back. She looked at him, startled and confused. "Saiki? Where did you-"
"Oh Kuu! Just in time, can you please take Y/N back home?"
Y/N and Saiki shared a look before turning to look at Kurumi, "Kurumi-san, it's fine, really! You don't need to-"
"Nonsense! I can't have a girl like you walk home alone at this time at night! Ku-chan, walk her home please" Her mother cooed, Saiki could only sigh in response as turned his heel around. "Fine."
The walk back to her house was silent, Y/N couldn't think of a topic to chat about and frankly, she was too tired to care- whether this was awkward or not. Saiki on the other hand kept taking glances at her, from time to time, his body seemed to inch closer to the girl before slowing down his steps to fall behind once more. It is not the reason you think it is.
During the party, his mother accidentally slipped out that he was a Psychic; although he was sure none of his friends-including you would have ever believed it, the idea was already planted, and he couldn't risk that. So right when they got to their separate ways, Saiki went and erased each one of their memories, making them forget about the whole situation from dinner.
But alas, there was still one remaining. Half-way through, Saiki realized he still had yet to erase Y/N's memories, so he quickened his pace and raced back home in hopes to still catch her before she got back home. Luckily, he did.
But now he was facing a difficult situation- how to casually bump her head. Harder than it looks.
For some reason, Y/N always walked unsteadily, not like a drunkard, more like a snake. She couldn't walk straight if her life depended on it. It was more obvious today since she was probably tired, but this was making Saiki's job a lot harder. He wanted to do it inconspicuously, and time was running out, as he could see that they were only 2 turns away from her house.
Y/N turned the corner with Saiki following closely behind- this was it, the perfect time. A quick thwack would suffice- "Thanks for walking me home by the way..." Y/N muttered out, her head turning slightly to look at him, the action made Saiki freeze up.
"You know you didn't have to, right?" she joked, trying to lighten up the mood once she realized he had not responded. Saiki couldn't only grunt, "I didn't really have a choice." was all he could think of as a reply. Y/N chuckled at his response, giving him a quick hum in agreement, "Yeah...Parents are like that I guess."
The walk was silent again, and it remained like that until they were only a few feet away from the last corner. Saiki couldn't fuck this up- 'Just get this over with' he thought as you turned the corner, he raised his oddly shaped object.
And-
"Thanks for walking me home.... Again..." Y/N paused in between her words as she found it silly to be thanking him again when she already did during the walk prior, but she did it, nonetheless. Saiki nodded, as Y/N turned around, walking to her front door. Saiki watched closely as she reached for the doorknob, giving him one last wave before going inside.
Saiki waited for a moment before he continued his journey back, his hands kept in his pocket for warmth against the January cold. His head hung low, his breathing steady- but his thoughts were all over the place.
The last moment, the last turn. He didn't do it. He didn't erase her memory. Now not having the opportunity to do so, he's left to suffer the consequences of his actions. What was he thinking?
'Good grief, what does it take for a man to get some peace and quiet around here?'

Chapter Text
February 14, the best or worst day depending on who you ask— in the case of Saiki, he hates it. But the same could not be said to his purple haired companion.
In the case of Toritsuka, he was definitely a fan of the holiday. “Oh yeah, I’m totally gonna get a lot of chocolates this year, I even helped some girls carry their bags!”
“Those were pencil cases.”
“—Even complimented them too!”
‘You said their shampoo was good?’
“And to top it all off, I gave them gifts.”
‘How pushy. If I was a girl, I’d file a restraining order.’
Toritsuka rambled on, occasionally glancing at Saiki, “Just this once, please use your psychic powers to tell me if I do get chocolates!” he bowed, looking at Saiki with a pleading look. Saiki sighed, positioning his hands above his head to represent an ‘O’
“Yes! I can't wait to get them!” Toritsuka cheered as he ran ahead to the school gates, his happiness through the roof all the while leaving Saiki standing alone.
‘He thought it was O for okay, but it was really zero as in 0’
As Saiki walked up the staircase, seeing Hairo outside their classroom standing, probably monitoring the halls for any students running. In the case of Hairo— there were surprisingly a lot of girls running up to him to give him chocolates, but from what Saiki could assume were probably only gratitude chocolates.
“Hairo! Thank you for watching my little brother the other day!”
“—Hairo, thanks for helping me carry those huge boxes yesterday.”
Simultaneously the girls crowded around him, one by one giving him chocolates as a thank you for whatever Hairo had helped them with— “Hairo! Thank you so much for saving me from being attacked by a bear the other day!”
Saiki glanced at the girl who just said that, half of him was shocked at how someone could find themselves in that situation, but also ‘How could you not fall in-love with him after that?’
Finally, the last of the girls walked away, waving to him with a smile, Hairo turned to see Saiki staring at him. “Huh? Saiki, did you see all that just now?” Hairo asked, his hands pretty much occupied with bags filled with chocolate.
Saiko nodded, not really caring about seeing him receive so many chocolates, he could care less, “I honestly don't know what to do with all of these, I can't brag— these are just gratitude chocolates after all.” Hairo replied with a sigh.
“Hard to believe that I got all of this, I didn't get a single heartfelt chocolate today.” And just when Hairo thought it was finally done, one more girl walked up to him. Y/N, who was seemingly nervous to walk up to him.
“Hairo-kun! Please accept these chocolates!”
Now this was a surprise.
Y/N stood in front of Hairo, her hands reaching out to him with a heart-shaped box, presumably filled with chocolates. Hairo smiled, taking the box off her hands, but before he could say anything, Y/N had completely run back inside the classroom.
“Ah, these are probably gratitude chocolates as well back from when we were project partners.”
Saiki narrowed his eyes at the box in Hairo’s hands, releasing a deep exhale he didn't know he was holding. “Lucky you, I think those are heartfelt chocolates.”
In the case of Y/N, she had planned it all out, before school she’d stop by the convenience store to buy some chocolates for her friends— for her friends. But for some reason, alongside with her mini-packs of chocolate, she found herself with a huge heart-shaped box as well.
“N/N-chan! Are you giving those to your crush?!” Yumehara cheered excitedly at her, Y/N blushed, looking away as she tried to keep the heart-shaped box from her sight, feeling embarrassed that she was caught with it.
“Y-yes? No? Maybe.” Y/N mumbled beneath her breath, unable to look at her friend's face as she said that. “This is so huge! I dont think I’m confident enough for that!” Yumehara leaned forward on her desk, her hands on the edge of her table as she tried to sneak a peek again.
“Who is it for N/N-chan?”
Y/N looked at her, narrowing her eyes— subconsciously deciding if telling her friend was a good decision or not. “Chiyo, you’re totally scaring her.” Teruhashi spoke up, making Yumehara turn her head, a pouting expression on her face. “Eh?! I was just curious! N/N-chan, I’m not scaring you am I?!”
Y/N chuckled a response, “You’re fine Yume-chan. I’m just embarrassed to tell you.” Y/N admitted, looking down at her desk as she felt her friend’s gaze on her. “No way! Is it because we know him!?” Yumehara exclaimed, almost jumping from excitement.
Teruhashi leaned in the conversation, finding it endearing seeing the two bicker— of course, it would soon be short lived, she herself bought chocolates too after all.
“You better give it soon; classes are about to start.” Teruhashi replied, her head placed on the palm of her hand as she watched Y/N shuffle out of her seat, all the while telling Yumehara not to peek or follow her. “W-wait! I just wanna see his reaction! N/N-chan pleasee—”
In the case of Teruhashi— she didn't expect it to be such a hassle. Some idiot let a rumor slip out that she bought chocolates for someone, and the whole day it was just rows and rows of people trying to do things for her, in the hopes that the chocolates were for them.
‘Ugh?! Who do they think they are? To hell with Valentine's Day!’
Teruhashi stood in the center of the bathroom, hiding from her fan club. “So what if I do have chocolates? I’ll just give this to Saiki— Obviously, they’re gratitude chocolates since I had dinner at his house during New Years so they're for him and his parents!”
She looked back at the bathroom door, her thoughts sprawled over everywhere, ‘If I give this to Saiki, who knows what’ll happen to him! If worse comes to worse, they’ll kill him!’
Teruhashi walked to a nearby window, ‘Not even that! If I do give it to him, WW3 might happen!’ her hands grasped the chocolate closely to her chest, sighing dramatically as she hovered it over the window before ultimately throwing it away.
‘These chocolates are the most dangerous thing to mankind!’
*I’m sorry Saiki!*
In the case of Saiki, he just listened to that whole entire monologue about Teruhashi giving him chocolates, he stood just below the window but far enough so that she wouldn't see him when she dropped it down. His hands reached out to catch the chocolate just in time before it could drop to the floor.
‘That's a bit dramatic.’
