Work Text:
As Namjoon giddily laughs at the side as he watches Jimin fall off another chair, laughing at Jungkook and Taehyung argue over who Yoongi's favorite is, a stark contrast to the now void of any trace of happiness Hoseok, Yoongi can't help but smile to himself as he takes another sip of his drink. He'll probably regret feeling all warm as he relishes on the thought that it's been 13 years since they all became friends, almost like brothers, when he has to take care of them later when the night is over but he'll let that be sober Yoongi's problem later. For now, he'll just laugh at their crazy antics and make sure no one throws up on anyone.
"Remember when you used to be like that?"
He turns to his side and sees Seokjin mirroring the same smile that he has on his face, attention focused on their other friends.
"I never did any of that." Yoongi clears his throat and just sips on his drink.
That made Seokjin scoff and raise an eyebrow at him. "Min Yoongi, you have been drinking with me ever since you turned 21. I know what you are like when drunk- you can't lie to me."
Yoongi does his best not to smile. "But it's true that I don't do any of that." he points out to Jungkook clapping loudly as he manages to do a cartwheel because apparently that's how they can decide who among them is Yoongi's favorite.
"Yeah- because you can't do cartwheels to save your life." Seokjin snorts with a smug smile as he takes another shot. "You-" he turns to Yoongi. "You're a much worse kind of drunk."
"How am I much worse? I never made you clean up after me- nor did I spiral down and break down while drunk." he whines as he puts down his drink.
"You're very clingy and affectionate when drunk, Min." his hyung answers with a laugh. "I think that's the worst type. It meant we can't have you get drunk when there are other people."
"I don't cling onto just anyone and you know that." Yoongi tries to reason out.
Seokjin just smiles and takes the bottle to pour him another shot. "Yeah, but they know you as someone who doesn't initiate any physical contact so if they see you ask someone to hold your hand and maybe a good night kiss, they might get a heart attack."
"I never asked anyone for a good night kiss." Yoongi's brows furrows as he takes his glass again. "If you're going to make me look like I'm someone who needs to be taken cared of when drunk, then at least give me actual reasons for me to believe I am like that."
But Seokjin can only smile as he takes a sip of his drink. Yoongi may not remember but he does.
"Okay. Quietly now, Yoongi." Seokjin even tiptoes as he slowly opens the door to their dorm, careful not to wake anyone up. But as soon as Yoongi steps in after him, loudly crashing into a small table, he sighs and regrets not holding onto him. He immediately runs back to Yoongi and checks first to see if anyone woke up. When he deems the coast is clear, they slowly make their way back to their room.
"Hyung, we should go for another round." Yoongi slurs while giggling. "That stuff was good!"
"You'll regret that when you wake up tomorrow with a headache." Seokjin tucks him into his bed. "Go to sleep. I'll leave this trashcan beside your bed in case you need to hurl." he tells him before turning around and lying down on his own bed.
It hasn't even been 5 minutes when he hears some movement on the other side and almost screams when he sees Yoongi towering over him.
"Jesus Christ, Min Yoongi!" He whisper-yells. "Do you want to give me a heart attack?" he sits up on his bed, clutching his chest. "I told you to go to sleep."
But the younger one just looks at him. "Hyung." Yoongi says in a serious tone.
"What is it, Gi?"
"Hyung."
"Yes?"
"Hyung."
He lets out a sigh. "Yes, Yoongi?"
"I love you."
That somehow takes him by surprise. He doesn't know if it's the alcohol that suddenly made him feel warm or if it's something- or someone- else.
"Hyung, I love you." Yoongi sits on the floor and rests his chin on the mattress and just keeps his eyes on Seokjin.
Sighing, he gets off bed and helps Yoongi stand up to bring him back to his own bed.
As he was tucking him back in under the sheets, Yoongi holds his hand. "Hyung, I love you so much- you know that right?"
"And I told you to sleep. Why are you suddenly blabbering nonsense?" He just continues tucking him in.
"I'm sorry." Yoongi says in a softer voice, pouting. "I just couldn't sleep without letting you know that I love you so much."
That makes Seokjin waver and sit down on the younger's bed. "Okay. You've told me now so you should go to sleep." he tells him, to which Yoongi nods to.
"Can you sleep on my bed, hyung? Beside me?" Yoongi suddenly asks.
He must've had too much to drink, considering how his heart has been racing in his chest. He's even reacting this way to Yoongi's request. "It will be too cramped. Just go to sleep—" He was just about to get up when Yoongi catches his arm, making him look back at him. "Yeah?"
"I can't sleep without a good night kiss." he says with a pout and Seokjin felt his knees go weak for a second. "Please? Hyungie?"
The hyung at the end did it.
He sits back down and takes a deep breath before leaning in. He brushes Yoongi's hair back, away from his forehead. His roommate reeks of all the booze they tried that night but for some reason, there's still a little trace of coffee. He gently presses a kiss on his forehead before uttering a soft "Good night." to him.
"Yep." He says with the smile of knowing things others don't. "You never did."
"What are you guys talking about here?" Jimin suddenly walks over to them. "I need a break from those two." he sighs.
"Which two?" Seokjin looks at his other friends. "Namjoon convincing Hoseok to smile and laugh with him or TaeKook fighting over Mr. Grumpy over here?"
"At least let me be Yoongi-hyung's favorite! You're already Seokjin-hyung's favorite!" Taehyung whines. "He already gave you the new password to his studio! At least let me be the favorite child."
Jungkook sticks his tongue out. "Doesn't him giving me the new password mean that I am already his favorite? And whoever said I am hyung's favorite? He only says I am his favorite but he won't even be my roommate! He said I can't even move into his apartment complex as my neighbor!"
"That's because you like having videoke parties either late at night or early in the morning? You know how much I value my beauty sleep." Seokjin says as he pulls them apart and makes them sit back down.
Jimin leans on Yoongi's shoulder, looking at Seokjin. "I don't do videoke parties any time of the day, hyung. Can I be your roommate then?"
"Ha! Nice try! He said he'll only have Yoongi-hyung as his roommate!" Jungkook suddenly sulks. "What about my dreams of becoming pro-gamers together?"
"I think it's best for the both of you to not be roommates since you'll both forget to eat when you start gaming." Namjoon reasons out.
"Yoongi-hyung also forgets to eat when he's working though." Taehyung starts to wonder. "How did it even work out for you guys before?"
Seokjin looks at Yoongi who is just busying himself with his drink. "Well, Yoongi-chi is surprisingly very attentive. We didn't talk much as roommates but he always reminds me to go eat so we always have breakfast, lunch, and dinner together."
Hoseok then starts sobbing, immediately alarming Namjoon and Jimin, who rushes over to their side.
"Hoba, what's wrong?" Namjoon rubs his back but Hoseok just starts crying louder.
"I want what they have!" He just cries. "Why can't I find love like that!?"
Jimin and Namjoon look at each other and then at Yoongi and Seokjin who are suspiciously avoiding each other's gazes now.
"And that's our cue! Everyone has had more than enough drinks— let's go to bed." Seokjin then ushers everyone into the other rooms in his house.
Jungkook was quick to call dibs to sleep with Hoseok in one room while Jimin and Taehyung decided to sleep together in another.
"Guess we're roommates for the night?" Namjoon smiles at Yoongi.
"I wish I could, Joonie, but I have to be up early tomorrow so it's best if I go home tonight." Yoongi answers as he picks up his coat and scarf.
"Okay. Good night, hyung! Take care on your way home." Namjoon tells him before walking away, passing Seokjin by the hallways after tucking Hoseok and Jungkook in.
Yoongi was already by the door when Seokjin gets to him. "You're leaving? You're not staying here tonight?"
"I have a thing tomorrow." Yoongi says with an apologetic smile. "And I'm only 5 minutes away from here so..." he shrugs.
"Oh. If that's the case—" he suddenly turns his back to Yoongi and leaves him by the door. That confused Yoongi but he took it as a go signal to leave.
He was waiting for the elevator when Seokjin comes up to him, almost out of breath from running. "Did you run...?"
"Of course, I did! I thought you already left! I just-" he wheezes a little. "I just got my coat. I wanted to walk you home."
"I'm literally just 5 minutes away from here...?"
"And I said I'll walk you home!" Seokjin grunts as he tries to catch his breath some more. "You can't say no."
The elevator doors ding open.
"When have I ever said no to you, anyway?" Yoongi smiles as he steps into the elevator, holding it by the door, waiting for Seokjin to get on.
Now, the two of them are not the chatty ones among their friends so silence isn't really much of an issue for them but the lack of any sound aside from the hum of the elevator somehow felt awkward.
Perhaps it was Hoseok's love comment.
Or maybe it was the fact that a.) Yoongi has confessed to Seokjin multiple times while drunk b.) Seokjin has never addressed any of those confessions and that's because c.) Yoongi never spoke about any feelings that might be related to his confessions while sober.
And while Seokjin kind of feels that it might not be platonic, he's still unsure of how to proceed, especially after that one night— even when he wanted to proceed.
"Hyungie~"
The stench of alcohol immediately invaded his sense of smell before he can even open his eyes. Reaching for the nightlight by his bedside table, he sits up on his bed, only to see Yoongi leaning by the cabinet they set up in between their beds that somehow acts like a wall in their room.
"Jesus Christ, Yoongi! Just how much have you had?" He immediately gets off the bed to go to Yoongi who just watches him with a dazed smile on his face.
"Not so much." he slurs his words. "Just-" hiccups. "a lot? I don't know. Yijeong kept on pouring drinks for me. Said it will make me brave."
"No- they will just get you drunk." He rolls his eyes as he makes Yoongi lean on him instead and they stagger together as they make their way towards Yoongi's side of the room to make him sit down on his bed. "Do you want to change clothes first?"
Yoongi nods.
"Can you?"
He shakes his head no.
Seokjin sighs as he goes to Yoongi's closet and grabs a shirt and a towel. He briefly goes to the bathroom and wets it to help freshen Yoongi because he doubts the younger can take a shower like this.
"Okay. Hands up." Seokjin says, Yoongi immediately following his command. Afraid that his roommate will get sick if he moves him too much, he takes off his shirt as gently as he could before wiping his face, arms and then torso with the towel. "All good? Or do you still feel sweaty?"
"All good." Yoongi answers briefly.
With that, Seokjin takes the new shirt and helps Yoongi get it on him. "There. Now lie down and go to bed."
"I can't." Yoongi says in a pout.
Letting out another sigh, Seokjin sits on his bed beside him. "Why not?"
"I have to tell you how much I like you."
"Okay." Seokjin looks at him briefly before starting to fold Yoongi's dirty shirt. "Tell me then."
"I like you so much, hyung. Have I ever told you that?" Yoongi says with a smile, eyes slowly closing. "I like you- so, so, so much."
Seokjin hums as acknowledgment. "Okay. You've told me you like me so you can go to sleep now, right?"
Yoongi's eyes open but Seokjin just gets up on puts his dirty shirt in his hamper. "Are you mad?"
"No. Why would I be mad?"
"You're mad." Yoongi sits up on his bed and taps on his side so Seokjin just sighs and sits beside him. "Why are you mad at Yoongi?"
"I'm not mad. I'm just... upset?" he says, making his roommate look at him all confused. "You told me you like me today." Seokjin answers in a small voice, suddenly embarassed of the reason why he was feeling that way. "But before when you get drunk, you always tell me that you..." he looks away. "Love me."
This makes Yoongi giggle and lean on him, instantly making him more embarassed.
"I'm so sorry, hyung." he says in a soft voice. "Kihyun told me I might be scaring you since I kept telling you that I love you. He says it might be overwhelming for you so he suggested that I tone it down a bit so I said like instead of love tonight." He then suddenly holds Seokjin's face with both of his hands, squishing it a bit. "But I do love you so much, hyungie!" He smiles, showing all of his gums. And then in a few seconds, Yoongi was falling back asleep again so Seokjin lays him back down.
"Okay, okay, you should sleep now." Seokjin tells him as he tucks him back in bed.
"But I still want to look at your face." Yoongi says in a pout, making Seokjin sigh for the nth time.
He then wordlessly leans over Yoongi's bed and takes out the things that were on the slot in the cabinet, right where their pillows are, clearing the view for both of them. "You can now just sleep on your side and see me. Can you go to sleep now?"
Yoongi excitedly nods and lies down on his side, making Seokjin smile for a second. He was even taken aback when Yoongi suddenly looks back at him again with a pout.
"Hyung! What are you still doing there? Go to your bed so I can look at you!" he complains in an almost whiny voice, making it hard for Seokjin not to smile. He gives him a nod and goes back to his side of the room and stops for a second to turn off the night light but ultimately decides to keep it on so his roommate can see him.
"Good night, Gi." he tells him as he lies down on his side, facing Yoongi, while looking through the little slot in the cabinet.
"Good night, hyungie." the other tells him with the same dazed smile from earlier that night.
"You should've brought a scarf as well." Yoongi's voice takes him out from his trance. "Your ears and nose are all red now."
He's now wearing the younger's gray scarf, the one his mom gifted him when he moved to Seoul.
"Sorry- I was in a rush to follow you." He looks down to hide his smile in the scarf, feeling a little silly as he somehow gets a little intoxicated by how Yoongi's scent lingered in it. "I'm not really good with the cold."
"I know." Yoongi continues walking. "That's why I told you I can go home on my own. Now I'll feel more guilty making you walk all the way back alone after we get to my place."
"That's okay." He jogs a little to catch up to Yoongi. "I really don't mind. It reminds me of the old days."
Yoongi just looks at him with a little smile.
They soon got to Yoongi's apartment complex and Seokjin was just about to take his scarf to give back to him when he notices Yoongi looking at him.
"Yes, Yoongi-chi? Don't tell me you forgot your keys in my place?" Seokjin laughs a little as he hands the scarf back to him.
"No. Just uhm..." He clears his throat. "Do you want to go back inside? I can make you something warm to drink or something."
"Oh." He wonders why the younger one was suddenly feeling shy. "Okay. But not coffee since I want to sleep tonight."
"I have a box of your favorite tea upstairs." Yoongi smiles.
"Let's go then." Seokjin smiles.
After getting their own places, he has not been able to visit as much. They do still see each other during their monthly hangouts and sometimes in the morning before or evening after work but it's been a while since he has been to Yoongi's place. The first things he notices was that while it's a little warmer than outside, it's still a little nippy.
"Sorry. Let me just adjust that but make yourself at home." He smiles.
Seokjin gives him a nod before taking off his coat and sits on the sofa to wait for the younger one to come back. When it has been five minutes and Yoongi still hasn't been back, he gets up, and sees him standing in the kitchen, leaning on the counter.
"Sorry- was waiting for the water to boil." Yoongi says as he stands up straight. "Did you get bored?"
"Was just wondering if there's anything I can help you with." Seokjin answers as he takes a seat on one of the stools by the kitchen island. "This feels like déjà vu but backwards. It reminds me of how I'll make us something warm to drink after sneaking out before to get wasted."
"Those were the days." Yoongi chuckles as he turns off the electric kettle and pours hot water in the two cups in front of him.
Seokjin thanks him for the tea and closes his eyes as he smells it. "I feel like we're roommates again because of this."
Yoongi just wordlessly puts down his cup while Seokjin takes a sip on his.
"Do you mean it?"
"Mean what? That this makes me feel like we're roommates again?" Seokjin asks.
"No- what Jungkook said."
He pauses for a second to think about which thing it was. "Oh- the roommate thing? Well, yeah. It's fun being with Jungkook but I don't think we'd do anything productive if we become roommates. We'd end up having too much fun gaming so we'd probably skip even going to work." he laughs.
Yoongi just nods quietly but Seokjin knows it probably disappointed him.
"But I don't mean I didn't have fun with you when we were roommates. I did. It was very comfortable living with you. You're very considerate. And caring. I liked it so much." Seokjin continues. "And by that, I meant it. When I said that I'll only have you as my roommate, I meant it. If I had to live with someone, then I'd choose you."
"What if not as roommates?"
Seokjin blinks in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"Nothing." Yoongi looks down. "How's your tea?"
"It's the way that I like it." Seokjin takes another sip. "If not as roommates then you better tell me now what I need to know then."
The younger one immediately gets flustered by Seokjin's answer.
"What? Do you need to be more drunk to feel that way about me?" Seokjin asks as he casually dips the tea bag again in his cup.
"I don't." Yoongi looks down. "It's just... I needed a way out of it just in case."
"Just in case what? Why would you need a way out?"
"Just in case you don't feel the same." Yoongi looks at him. "I have been in love with you for years and I didn't know how to tell you unless I have all of my inhibitions down but it's true whether there's alcohol in my system or not. I just didn't want you to feel uncomfortable so I never told you properly."
"Are you sure it's not just because you're drunk?"
"Yes, because I am not anywhere near drunk now but I still want to marry you and spend the rest of my life with you because I do- I love you." Yoongi bites on his lips and looks away. "And I'm sorry if I wasn't able to find the courage to confess sober until now but that's because I didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable."
Seokjin looks at him, confused. "You still confessed to me every time you got drunk!"
"Because I wanted to tell you. I needed to tell you." Yoongi takes a deep breath before looking back up at Seokjin. "I wanted you to know how much I love you."
That's when Seokjin started to sob, immediately making Yoongi panic and run to him.
"Hyung! What's wrong— I didn't make you feel uncomfortable, right? Ugh- this is why I didn't want to—"
"No, you idiot!" Seokjin pulls him into a hug and sobs into his shoulder. "Do you know how long I waited for an actual confession while you're sober? You had me overthinking that maybe it's not true because you only say it when you're drunk and you act like it never happened when the morning comes! What took you so long?!"
"You thought it wasn't..." Yoongi hugs him tighter. "I'm sorry, hyung. I didn't know I was making you feel that way."
Seokjin then pushes him lightly and wipes his tears. "Yes, you did."
Yoongi tries hard not to coo as he reaches out for Seokjin's face to wipe his tears away. "But I'm here now. I'm ready to tell you how much I love you without acting like I didn't know what happened when we wake up."
"Okay." Seokjin nods. "But you have to tell me over and over how much you love me, just like how you do it when you're drunk."
The younger one nods and pulls him back into a hug. "I'll tell you how much I love you over and over for the rest of our lives—" he suddenly realizes what he just said. "I mean, if you'd want that too, of course. But no pressu— Aw!" He yelps when Seokjin slaps his back.
"Ask me again next time because you owe me a few dates first. We can't just get engaged overnight, you dumdum." Seokjin hugs him tight. "But I'll say yes." He mumbles against the crook of Yoongi's neck.
"What?" Yoongi asks.
"Nothing. Remind me again that you love me."
Yoongi lets him go and cups his face. "I love you. So much." He kisses his forehead. "Now, we're even."
Seokjin pauses for a second to think about what he meant. "You remember! And you had the audacity to tell me you never asked for a good night kiss!"
But Yoongi just shrugs his shoulders and hugs him again. Confessions really are different when you're sober.
