Work Text:
It was late at night in Jun’s dorm room. Hiyori was staying there for a few nights, and Kohaku and Jun had just left to go pick up food. Hiyori hadn’t gone with them, he lied and said he had a migraine. They promised to bring him something anyway.
Hiyori was so tired, and all alone. The apartment was silent and dark. He stood up to look outside the window. Hiyori could see them from the window, walking on the sidewalk towards the restaurant and away from the apartment. Away from him. It wasn’t their fault.
He decided to play some music to set the mood. Hiyori turned on his phone and opened his music app, going to his classical music playlist. He sighed and set his phone down on the counter, the volume only at halfway.
Hiyori drank a glass of water, deep in thought about the two of them. They shouldn’t feel guilty. They wouldn’t have known.
Hiyori took his phone with him to their bedroom, setting it down on Jun’s nightstand. He looked around in his drawers for something to write on, and while he did find a notepad, he also found a scarf he had left behind at their apartment before. The scarf was made of light blue silk, and had white lilies on it, with little brown and tan sparrows embroidered on the edges of the scarf.
Jun had gotten that scarf custom-made for him, and he smiled remembering the date they had gone on when Jun gave it to him. Hiyori clutched it to his chest, writing on the notepad with his other hand.
Hiyori set the scarf on the bed, and the notepad on the nightstand. He should do something useful with the time that they would be gone, he thought. He got up and left to the kitchen to do the dishes and clean, soft music playing while he did their chores. He knew they hated doing it.
When he was finished, he went back to Jun’s bed and grabbed his scarf. He rubbed the scarf in his hands, feeling the smooth texture of it. He closed his eyes, holding it to his chest. It reminded him of his dearest Jun.
Hiyori took the scarf and grabbed a chair from the living room. He got up on the chair and tied it to the ceiling fan, and then around his neck. Hiyori pushed the chair from under his feet, suffocating in midair.
At least he would die pretty.
Jun and Kohaku had finished up their dinner, and just picked up Hiyori’s food to go.
Once they arrived at their apartment, Kohaku carrying the food, Jun unlocked the door. The apartment was quiet, only soft classical music could be heard throughout the entire apartment, coming from their bedroom. Kohaku went to put the food away, taking note that the apartment was cleaner than it had been when they left, and the sink was empty of dishes.
Hiyori was asleep in their bedroom. That’s what Jun thought.
But he opened the door. Jun’s eyes were wide, and his lips slightly parted in shock. He just stood there, he never thought this would happen. He never knew. “What are ya doing standin’ in the doorway for?” Kohaku asked him, unable to see what happened from where he stood.
Kohaku approached him and gently moved him aside to get inside their bedroom, but looked up and saw Hiyori’s lifeless body. He too was also paralyzed in shock. Or at least, he was; Kohaku covered his mouth and pushed past Jun, who was still stunned, to bring Hiyori down.
The classical music Hiyori had put on earlier now sounded eerie instead of comforting as Kohaku untied the scarf from Hiyori’s neck. Jun blinked and went to help him, holding Hiyori’s lifeless body in his arms as Kohaku untied him.
Jun mustered up the few words he could get out to Kohaku, “Get the scarf down too.. please.” His voice was quiet and hoarse. Kohaku just nodded and picked up the chair Hiyori had used earlier to untie his scarf from the ceiling fan.
Jun brought Hiyori to lay down on his bed and kissed his head, tears threatening to spill out. He looked him over, there were scratches along his neck and blood under his nails. Jun held the scarf in his hands now, rubbing the soft material in his hands for any comfort he could get. He called out to Kohaku, “C-call 911.” Jun struggled to speak still, eyes landing on the notepad.
There were only a few words written on it, a simple “I love you.”
