Work Text:
Dragging himself out of bed is hard today. So he just doesn’t.
Finger tracing circles into his mattress. Everything is unbearably warm and slow and heavy.
Ena knocks on his door to get him for dinner. They’ve been eating together since his attempt… he thinks she’s scared. He can’t blame her. But he has no intentions of anything similar. He knows exactly who and what he’d leave behind. At least now he does.
Ena’s knocking becomes more frantic. Again, he can’t blame her. He doesn’t want to worry her though, so he calls out weakly, to let her know he’s alright. It worries Ena more, he thinks. Because after a moment of silence she threatens to break the door down.
“It’s open…”
He doesn’t lock the door anymore.
Ena walks inside, brows furrowed, eyes worried.
How are you? What’s the matter? Do you need anything?
Shit. Feel bad. I don’t know.
A conversation in a few glances. They know each other well enough for that. Have always. Or maybe it’s a new thing. Akito can’t tell anymore. Because he was wrong before.
“Ena…”
He can feel tears pricking his eyes. He hates feeling this weak.
He hates seeing her worry deepen.
Ena however, just sits down next to him, hand brushing through his hair.
It’s nice. It’s grounding. But it’s not enough.
Akito tugs her sleeve weakly. He hopes she understands.
Ena does understand. She’s had bad days before. She’s had times where nothing felt real. She had to deal with that on her own sometimes. Sometimes she had her group to help her.
She knows how much it can help to have someone.
So she lies down beside him and hugs him close. She hugs him and hugs him, even when the discomfort becomes too much and he starts to cry into her shoulder.
Ena hasn’t been able to be there for him for so long. Now that she has another chance she’ll do her best to be the sister he deserves.
