Work Text:

I found myself stood in front of the infamous Button House. My boots were planted in the grass as I lost myself in the memory of this house a few years back. It was during the War that I was stationed here. I was broken from my thoughts abruptly from a shrill yell towards my person.

"Off the lawn!" A lady in a grey down yelled. I looked down at my boots that were still planted in the grass, I looked up and walked towards the cobble. I stood stiffly on the cobble, until once again I was yelled at. This time by an older man who was running straight at me. I knew him. I was frozen, he was exactly like I remembered. That silver hair carefully groomed back, the neat mustache under his nose. Not a thing about his uniform was out of place, and he had his swagger stick neatly tucked under his arm. I was broken out of thought when he collided with me. I heard gasps and footsteps trotting towards me and the man. He got up and brushed off his uniform. I did the same and stood up at attention.

"Sir. I'm sorry for the recklessness, I should've gotten out of th-" He cut me off with a quick question.

"Havers? Is that you?" I sway on my feet, can it be?

"Captain?" I ask, staring into his kind eyes. His met mine in the same comfortable gaze as I remember. I felt the space between us lessen until his arms lay around me, holding me close. He pulled away quickly and straightened my tie.

"Good to see you, Lieutenant. Come inside?" I nodded and followed him, glancing around at the others who followed us inside. A brunette girl stared at me as we entered the living room.

"Who is this?" She asked Captain, motioning towards me. I stood up taller in hope to look more presentable for the lady. The Captain looked at ease with her, a family member, or perhaps a mother? No, she was too young to be his mother.

"Alison, this is Lieutenant William L. Havers. He was my Lieutenant back in the war. Havers, this is Alison. She owns Button House now, and can see and hear us after a terrible accident." He shot a glare at the ghost without trousers on. Which was rather strange, but I assume that I would be getting an explanation later. "Come on, Havers. Lets get you situated with the others." He lead the others in. It was getting quite loud, and so many people were around me now. They weren't in a formation, or in line. It was overwhelming. I loosened my collar in hopes that it would allow me to breathe. I heard a soft voice coaxing me to come into the kitchen. I followed the voice compliantly. It was Alison.

"Hey, Hey now. Deep breaths, alright?" She whispered in a comfort tone, loosening my tie completely. I followed her breathing exercise as I felt less and less overwhelmed and unable to breathe. "Are you ready to go back in." I nodded, thanking her once again as I followed her into the living room where everyone else got quiet. The Captain came up to Alison and I, asking where we went. "He was feeling overwhelmed, I was just helping him calm down." I avoided his gaze in hopes he couldn't catch the discomfort I had from earlier.

"Right then. Everyone, this is Lieutenant William L. Havers. He was my Lieutenant back when the war was going on." He introduced me to every ghost and included how they died. Soon enough it was 2000 hours and Alison was heading off to bed. The Captain lead me upstairs, "Havers, In here." He lead me into the room, it was the same room I had for my sleeping quarters back in the war. I sat on the side of the bed, facing The Captain. He seemed lost in thought, his eyes staring at my pale lips.

"Sir?' He broke his gaze.

"Ah, Yes? Apologies, Havers. I didn't realise that I was staring." He walked over to the door. I laid down on the bed and tried to fall asleep.
