Work Text:
It has been three days since Idia had his talk with Leona about what they were. Before that moment, they weren’t really sure they were. Friends, but not quite friends at the same time- they were too close for a title that, too intimate. They didn’t sort out what they were until Ruggie had asked how long they’ve been boyfriends, followed by a rather serious talk and a not so serious make out session. Against all odds, they’re finally boyfriends, so it was time for Idia to act like a “normal” boyfriend by taking Leona out on a date. Dates are normal, right? That’s what all the couples in romance animes did, so it’d probably work for him and Leona too, right..?
This date plan of his is what had lead Idia into the heart of Savanaclaw, dressed in one of his nicer suits. He’s even wearing his boring, stuffy professional shoes for this occasion, not to mention that he even went through the effort of combing and tying his unruly hair into a ponytail. He needed to look his best for this totally normal date! He didn’t want to disappoint the kitty-cat boyfriend he had dreamed of bagging for so long now that they’re official!
Idia took a deep breath, just to ready himself for the occasion, before knocking on Leona’s bedroom door, “Leona..? It’s me, Idia. Are you ready for our date..?”
Idia could hear thumping behind the door, followed by a line of curses before Leona was opening the door, “Hey there, radish sprout. I’m ready for our date.”
“Great! Um…” What were normies supposed to say in a situation like this? Should he… say something about Leona’s outfit? He’s dressed rather nicely in a suit of his own with shoes so shiny that Idia felt as if he could see his reflection in them. Leona could ditch his tie, though… because like, really? A leopard print tie? Who wears a leopard print tie to a date?
“You look… Handsome.” Leona beat him to the outfit compliment, it seems, “Well, you always look handsome, but-” He let out a sigh, shaking his head, “Nevermind me. Shall we go?”
“Oh- yes- of course!” Idia held out his hand, “I booked us a spot at a very nice diner near the pier on Sage Island. And, for the record, you’re always handsome too.”
-🦁💀-
When Idia said he’d take him out to a very nice diner, Leona didn't think that his newly official boyfriend (that thought always made his heart flutter) would bring him to the fanciest, high-end diner on Sage Island. He expected a quaint, little restaurant, not to be presented with a menu that displayed food items that were more than expensive for an average citizen. One steak could probably cover the cost of one of Idia’s fancy figurines with those moving parts. Why would Idia bring him to a place like this? Leona totally wouldn’t mind covering the bill, but Idia promised that he would, strangely enough. Idia didn’t seem like the kind of guy to splurge on piles of food that isn’t 90% sugar.
“So… Did you find anything you’d like to order?” Idia stood out like a sore thumb across from him, and by the looks of it he definitely knew he did as well, “I… might go for the smallest thing on the menu. It’s not like I eat a lot, so… Yeah.”
Leona nodded, he definitely needed to sneak some money into Idia’s wallet and introduce his stomach to a wider palette of food that isn’t candy or Minecraft branded barbeque chips, “I might go for the steak. What are you going to get?”
“The… escargot plate.”
“You’re going to just eat a plateful of snails?!”
“Y-Yes..?”
Great seven, Leona really needed to feed his boyfriend more than fucking snails for dinner, “You are not eating snails tonight. Got me?” He flagged down a waiter, “Forget paying, I will. And I will make sure you’re well fed.”
“No! I’m fine with snails!” Spoke Idia hurriedly, “They’re small and bite sized and-”
“Absolutely not!” Leona bonked Idia’s head with the menu, “You don’t like raw fish and unpeeled apples, right? Let me order something filling for you!”

After they had gotten the food Leona had generously ordered, their conversation seemed to come to a halt. Part of it was because they were stuffing their faces, but the other part of it is that they didn’t know what to talk about. This is a normal date, so they were supposed to ask normal questions, but… the problem is that they already know so much about each other. Idia couldn’t ask Leona what his favorite food was, or what his favorite color was, because he already knew those things! Great seven, if there were only a guide on questions to ask on a first date… even if there were one, Idia could probably answer them all about Leona on his own. He practically knew everything about Leona, what else is there to learn?
Across from him, Leona let out a long, drawn out sigh, “This isn’t fuckin’ working.”
Idia’s heart dropped in his chest.
Leona looked at him for a moment, ears flattening against his head, “Wait! Please, don’t look like that, Idia! I didn’t mean that we don’t work out! Just, this date-”
“Was… my idea bad?” Idia felt sick asking that question, “Are you not having fun?”
“No. None of that!” Leona reached across the table to grip Idia’s hand in his own, “I’m having a good, fun time with you, and dinner is great-”
“So? What do you mean about how this isn’t working?!”
“Well…” Leona motioned towards the two of them, “Look at us, radish sprout. Do we look like normal people having a normal first date?”
Oh, so that’s what this is about. All of Idia’s more icky thoughts seemed to melt away, no longer scratching at his heart, “I… suppose not. We are pretty cool, not very normal people.”
“Exactly.” Leona pulled out his wallet, shuffling through more thaumarks than Idia can count, “Forget this stupid dinner, ok? Let’s go to a store, grab some ice cream, and watch a movie. No more of this normie shit.”
“O-Oh. Ok!” Idia liked that idea way better than this whole ‘normal’ dinner date idea, all the eyes that have been on him all evening really gives him goosebumps, “Can we go to my room..? I have a bunch of movies we can watch! Oh, shows too in case you like those- oh, oh! Or anime!”
“We can watch whatever you’re feeling up to, radish sprout.” Leona took a moment to call over a waiter for the bill, “Let’s ditch this dinner date and get going to our next one.”

After picking up some ice cream in a convenient store they were definitely too overdressed for, they made their way back to Night Raven College and straight to Ignihyde. Thankfully, Leona managed to convince his official boyfriend to ditch the suits, and they changed out of their stuffy formal wear into much comfier pajamas. Unfortunately, he moved his spare clothes out of Idia's room the other day as a 'normal' boyfriend gesture… but, fortunately, this meant that he could borrow one of Idia’s oversized shirts. Despite being too big on Idia, it fit Leona perfectly, plus it also smelled like Idia… what a bonus. After the whole wardrobe change, they were finally able to sit down and put on a show of Idia’s choosing, which led them to watching netflix as they chilled with ice cream. Leona couldn’t remember how many episodes they watched of some red thief, but he did remember that they finished all of their ice cream around the time the second episode finished. Maybe he should’ve picked up more than ice cream at the store…
“You know, this is a pretty good date.” Idia leaned against him, “You, me, Netflix’s version of Carmen Sandiego… yeah, this is way better than some normal first date for normies.”
“Right?” Leona smooched the top of Idia’s head, “Let’s just do something the two of us will like the next time we go on a date, m’kay?”
“Sure.” Idia looked away from the movie and towards him, “What do you want to do during our next date?”
“Mmm… maybe take a nap.”
“Where?”
“In my room. Is that ok with you?”
“Yeah! What time?”
“Maybe after dinner? The stars are particularly beautiful around midnight.” Plus, Leona privately wished to see Idia under the endless, starry sky of the savanna. He’d look beautiful.
Idia seemed to quietly consider his offer before nodding, “After dinner sounds good, but isn’t that a little late for a nap? What if I just stayed the night at your dorm instead? We can be cute, cuddle… go to sleep together. Does that sound good?”
“That sounds perfect, radish sprout.” Leona is looking forward to their next official date night already, “We should have our date tomorrow.”
“T-Tomorrow?!” Squeaked Idia with surprise, “Isn’t tomorrow too soon?!”
“Nah. If anything, it’s too long of a wait… I want to spend more time with you.”
Idia turned away from him, the tips of his hair turning pink, “You sure do have a way with words, kitty-cat…”
