"You really should be out here, your injuries are still fresh, you'll hurt yourself."
Kaeya huffed as he clutched his vision. His hands trembling, his mind telling him to throw the damn thing as far away as possible but his body disobeyed.
"Listen, I know it's tough between you and Diluc right now. But you two shouldn't be fighting like this." Varka approached the boy placing a comforting hand on his trembling shoulder.
"It's fine Master Varka. I deserved it." Kaeya spoke softly.
Varka let out a sigh. "Enlighten me then boy. Why? Any person doesn't deserve to be tormented like this."
Kaeya let out a chuckle. "You don't get it. I… I'm a threat to Mondstadt…" Kaeya stared down at his vision with a disgusting glare. "I was planted here as a spy… for the interest of my homeland… Khaenri'ah… I've been a sinner right from the very first time I stepped into Mondstadt. I lied and deceived everyone, everything about me is a lie and… and.." Kaeya choked on his words. "I deserve every ounce of pain I'm feeling right now!"
Right, he's a sinner and he deserves to be punished. Kaeya swallowed a lump in his throat. He thought that maybe it was cruel of him to bring Diluc into that position but Kaeya guessed it would be better if Diluc would be angry at him than anything else.
Varka let out a loud chuckle which left Kaeya confused. "A spy you say… You're a pretty lousy one in my opinion. Revealing the truth to two people in one day."
"I guess you're right." Kaeya sighed, a pained smile on his face. "I guess after this I'll leave Mondstadt altogether. After all, I have nothing to go back home to."
"What do you mean?"
"Mondstadt would always be in danger because of me. The best course of action for me is to leave this place."
The best course of action or is it cowardice on his part? Might be both. Kaeya could care less at this point.
"Kaeya, I think you care more about this place than you think you do."
"Huh?"
"You told us your secret. I joked about you being a lousy spy but you're actually a brilliant one. I didn't suspect a thing until you said it to me outright." Varka shifted his gaze to meet Kaeya's starry blue eye, holding his shoulders with a gentle grip. "The fact that you chose to reveal this to us and contemplated leaving the city shows that you care. You told me you have nothing to go back home to but Mondstadt is your home. I won't stop you from your decision but know that you will always and forever be a child of Mondstadt." Varka spoke before engulfing the boy in a warm hug.
"You're too kind for your own good Master Varka," Kaeya spoke softly, his eyes watering as soft sobs escaped from his mouth.
Kaeya felt warmth in the man's embrace. His arms trembled as he broke down into tears before him.
"There… there… it'll be alright."
"I… I want to go home." Kaeya sobbed.
"Don't worry, I'll prepare your quarters for you. But let's get you inside first." Varka smiled.
"I'll have a talk with your brother later."
