Bruises And Tears

Summary:

When Jolene and Margot plays tag, Jolene falls and hurts her knee.

Notes:

Scraping your knees had no business hurting that much as a child 😭🖐🏻

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"You'll never catch me!" Jolene called out as she ran as quickly as she could, her sister getting closer from behind.

"Yes I will, you're as slow as a snail!" Margot called back with a giggle.

"You're a snail, that's why I always win," Jolene teased.

The two continued throwing comments at one another as they ran. Margot did her best to catch up with her human sister, but she was right, she was faster.

Suddenly, Jolene misstepped, accidentally running over her own legs before she fell to the ground. She tried to stop herself from landing too harshly by using her knees as a stopper. It only worked partly. Her knee was scratched up and blood started to come out of the wound. Dirt and tiny rocks had gotten into it, making it burn.

Margot stopped behind her, gasping at the bloody knee. When Jolene got over the shock from falling and the adrenaline from running started to sip out, she felt the pain on her knee and tears started to build up in her eyes. Margot didn't get a chance to comfort her before she burst into tears.

Their mother would repeatedly tell them to save their tears for the pillow, as crying would be seen as a weakness out in the real world. But Jolene was just a child, and the sight of blood was scary, especially when it came from herself. Still, it hurt a lot to fall.

Margot wrapped an arm around her sister, giving her a hug to comfort her while she was hurting.

"Hey, it's okay. It's just a scratch. Let's see if there are any band-aids inside, okay?" Margot suggested and Jolene nodded through the tears.

Her sister helped her stand up and Jolene limped all the way across the backyard and into the house, not being able to fully straighten her injured knee because of the pain. Their parents weren't home, having gone out to hunt for food. Therefore, nobody was there to call Jolene out on her tears. Their brothers understood that children cried, but their parents didn't.

Margot guided Jolene to the bathroom, letting her take a seat on the toilet lid as Margot searched through the cabinets for a band-aid. All she found was a Frozen 1 band-aid, with the snowman Olaf on it. It would have to do. Grabbing some paper, Margot wet it with water before she started to clean Jolene's knee, not wanting it to get infected. Their father had taught them all about what to do if they were injured and couldn't get help.

Jolene whined when Margot cleaned her knee, feeling the burn in her entire leg as the blood and tiny rocks were wiped away. Margot placed the band-aid right in top of the tiny wound, placing a gentle kiss on it just like her mother used to do when she was a toddler.

Jolene giggled at the action and Margot was happy that she had managed to bring a smile to Jolene's face. Wiping her tears, Margot guided Jolene to their bedroom.

Jolene laid down on her bed, deciding that she had moved enough for the day. Margot distracted her from her knee by telling her funny stories. The two laughed for hours until their parents got back home. By then, Jolene had forgotten about her knee.

She was happy to have a sister like Margot, and she knew that they would always support each other when either of them needed it.

I needed the fluff to heal my sad heart (I read a sad fanfic).
