Work Text:

Garak awoke cold, and reached over for Julian’s warmth, to find the bed empty. Grumbling under his breath, he climbed out of bed, wincing as the frigid air clawed at his naked body. He threw on his robe and unhappily made his way into the lounge, hair sticking up at odd angles and eyes not fully open.

Julian sat on the couch, wearing his own robe, and sipping from a steaming cup as he read from a PADD. Garak unceremoniously flopped onto the couch beside him, and without even a greeting, grabbed him by the hips, pulling him into his lap.

Julian squawked in indignant surprise. “Well, good morning to you too, Garak.”

Garak didn’t answer, just tightened one arm around Julian’s waist, and stole his tea from his hand. “You thieving lizard!” Julian exclaimed.

Garak drank a few mouthfuls and handed it back. “That’s what you get for abandoning me, and leaving me to wake up alone in a cold bed.”

“I got up ten minutes ago.”

“That’s long enough for the bed to get cold, with this temperature.”

“And that explains why you’ve manhandled me into sitting on your lap?”

“You’re warm. I’m cold.” Garak leaned back, pulling Julian with him.

“If you’re not careful, you’ll spill my tea all over us,” Julian warned.

“It’ll hurt you, not me,” Garak replied, closing his eyes and burying his nose in Julian’s shoulder, inhaling his scent.

“But you’ll be sticky,” Julian pointed out, moving his head to allow Garak better access. “And you don’t like starting your day sticky.”

“You’re right,” Garak agreed. He again took the cup from Julian and drank a bit more. “It’s mine now.”

“Garak…”

“You can’t spill your tea if you don’t have any,” Garak argued.

Julian huffed in amusement and lifted his PADD. “Fine. I’ll have another cup later.”

Garak drank a bit more of the tea, then set the cup against Julian’s lips, and let him drain the last of it. With his free hand, Garak set the cup on the end table, and leaned back again, pulling his partner with him.

Garak let his eyes fall closed as Julian read his PADD, relaxing as his warmth seeped through their gowns to heat his scales. Garak started to drift off, nostrils full of Julian’s scent, and began to purr contentedly.

Julian smiled, and continued to read his PADD, soothed by the sound of his partner’s purring. It was a good start to the day.

Notes:

Julian: I'm going to let Garak sleep in, and just read on the couch so I don't wake him.

Garak grumpy and sleepy: How dare you.
