Work Text:
“Kakeru?”
“Hmm.”
“Do you ever think about leaving?”
Kakeru looks up from his book, the air leaving his lungs in anticipation of the worst question he’s ever been asked. He bites his tongue before he accidentally shouts.
“What do you mean, leave where?”
He feels him wiggle his toes under the Kotatsu. “Oh, you know, like—” Haiji hums, like he didn’t even understand the question he was asking. “Have you ever considered moving out?”
Kakeru pales. No, not since the first week he moved in here, has he ever once considered moving out. He’s not sure what he’d do if he had to. Both financially, and, well. He doesn’t want to leave Haiji. Does Haiji want him to leave? This is all too much for 6am.
“No, I don’t think i have.” He says, infinitely calmer than he feels inside—a Kakeru specialty. And then he asks the question he is most terrified of learning the answer to, “Have you?”
“Oh, all the time.” Haiji says with a smile, leaning back onto his hands and tossing his hair back into the breeze of the open window.
“Really.” Kakeru’s going to be sick.
“Yeah! I can’t believe you don’t. You really want to live in a house full of guys forever?”
“Well, no, but—”
“I just think it would be fun, you know? To find a new place, maybe a new town, we would have so much fun, I know it.”
Hold on. We. We??
“Wait, we?”
Haiji tips his chin back up, smiling that beautiful smile already, “Yeah, silly, of course we.” He kicks him a little under the kotatsu, “We’re in this together, remember? That includes where we live.”
Kakeru’s heart rate begins to settle. Right. Partners. They’re in this together.
“Right. Well, in that case, yes. I think about living with you a lot.” He says, bluntly, uncaring of the implication.
Haiji’s face betrays any sense of cool he may have, his blush giving Kakeru more satisfaction than he expected. Good. Serves him right for scaring him like that.
“O-oh, uh. Me too, actually.”
And now they match.
