Chapter Text
“What’s wrong? Don't wanna kill him? Is his life that important to you?”
Zahha does his best to not outwardly finch at the sudden voice from behind him. He had been too caught up in observing Beerus’ resistance party to notice Zamasu's presence. Despite being preoccupied, he didn't miss the underhanded ridicule, nor the obvious bait.
“Would you like to clarify what you’re talking about?”
Guarding his subtle aggression, he switches over from watching the purple ‘elite’ - Jaco, if he recalls correctly - to Mai’s team. They’re recovering from the warriors that had been sent, the ones Cabba had been able to hold out on. If anything, that’s what he was most impressed by.
“Shallot, obviously. Your words didn’t quite seem to reflect your thoughts when we spoke earlier.”
Ugh. Of course, a god would have been able to see through that. Zahha plans his next words carefully, for the sake of this rickety alliance. In an attempt to turn things in his favor, he closes the magic window he was using to observe and opts to face Zamasu directly; taking care to show *some* respect in his mannerisms.
“Only because he still has a use, which I'm sure you’ve come to the same conclusion. The orb needs consistent energy to power the wishes…”
“Hmph, so you want me to believe that the reason you told your followers to execute him is to further harvest that energy?”
No surprise, the other is suspicious. That’s why they’re having this conversation in the first place. In fact, Zahha could bet that Zamasu has come up with their own plan to carry out… although it may be negligent of his personal desires.
“Why else? Do you have any suggestions?”
“Oh well now that you ask I do, a rather good one I think.”
The slight mockery is clearly evident in that sentence alone, and Zahha would've said something if not for the fact that this was the type of ally he’d chosen to make. If anything, he could inver what Zamasu's idea was going to be - and he wasn’t excited.
“I’m listening.”
“We should just kidnap that disgusting mortal! That way, we can harvest his energy for the orb without letting him roam free to work with those… resistors.”
Eugh, of course. A fantastic idea in theory, until you realize all of the moving parts that would also come into play.
And maybe the fact that he’s… not quite certain of his feelings for Shallot. Zamasu was right, to an extent, and it's only complicated things a lot further.
Which is incredibly frustrating if you can imagine. Especially in this case where his plan has gone great so far. Everything has been fine, fantastic even. He just got a little attached.
Which would make this concept more difficult to carry out.
“And then we can be sure that you truly don't care for him anymore.”
Another tease… but Zahha can’t do anything about it. Delicate situation and all of that. Allegiances and everything else.
“My word isn’t enough, huh.”
“Not when your eyes continue to say something different, Zahha.”
Of course.
“Well if that’s all I’m going to get back to supervising Beerus’ scouts. Cabba and Shallot are solo exploring different cities. Quite a good situation for opportunity.”
“Yes, yes, I know. I’ll be going.”
Turning back to the dark wall, Zahha opens a different view focused on Goku, waiting until Zamasu leaves. That’s when he caves and switches to watching Shallot fight the Nuova Shenron that was occupying the city. It makes him almost violently homesick in a sense. A disgusting yearning for something that was doomed to fail from the beginning. Subconsciously, his hands curl into fists.
He shouldn't have let shallot live past the reveal.
Everything would have been so much easier. But in a moment of… something he can’t quite place… he accepted the consequences and turned a blind eye; and now he’s dealing with the consequences.
