Lockyle Car Nap

Summary:

Short story were Lucy is exhausted and falls asleep in an unexpected place.

Work Text:

It was such a long night. Lucy, George, and I catch a night cab home to Portland Row.

“Luce, you alright?” She nods warily. She's been working nonstop, she takes the job seriously. She's exhausted.

“I'm fine, let's just get home.” She also carries around that skull for cases.

“Do you want me to take your bag?” She shakes her head again. “I've told you, I got it.”

We approach the cab and get in one by one, Lucy, and George after me. It's only been five minutes and Lucy is out like a light.

George and I look at each other. “You think she overworks herself?” George whispers, I nod slowly and look at her.

I just now noticed she has eyebags that you wouldn't usually see in the dark. “She needs rest.”

We agreed silently. The car hit a large speed bump and we held on to something to keep us steady.

“Sorry about that Mr. Lockwood.” Jake, our usual cab driver says apologetically. “It's alright.”

I look down and realize Lucy's head fell onto my shoulder. I feel my face get hot.

“George!” I hiss and motion to Lucy. His eyes went wide and he tried to hold in a laugh.

“George! What do I do??” I'm not usually this unsure about things, but this caught me by the tail.

I noticed I said that a bit too loudly. Lucy looks up and looks at me. “Uh hi.” She says with exhaustion in her eyes.

I smile, unsure, but warmly. She doesn't sit up or move or say anything else.

What she does do is get her head comfortable on my shoulder and goes back to sleep.

I smile, looking at her the whole way home. Once we get there she's still dead asleep, so I carry her up to her room.
