Chapter Text
It had been many days and nights under the Unovan sky. Often, N had travelled between the various towns and cities, but it was always on a mission. There was always something that had to be done, to liberate all pokemon. What a horrible lie, spun by his own father. Finally, he was free. He had never been free. The first few weeks he spent frolicking, running through the grass; his soul felt at rest in the forests and fields.
His companion, however, had began to urge him. Much like a guardian, the bright white dragon, Reshiram, nudged deeply into his back. In an old language even Natural himself barely knew, they opened their maw to speak.
"My friend... we have travelled for many months." They began, in a soothing, deep voice, the tone impossible to tell.
N turned around, stopping his idle watching of the sky. "What's wrong? You seem... upset...?" He began to tug at the chain connecting the puzzle block to his pants. A fidget, Reshiram noticed, he often did when nervous.
"They are still out there. Those who will destroy the balance." They continued, the voice lowering to a monotone, regretful growl.
N turned away, it filled his throat like a golf ball. He swallowed it down, whatever it was, and nodded. Yet, his hand couldn't stop fidgeting with the puzzle by his side. He turned it a few times, feeling each square click back into place, letting out a deep sigh...
"Yes, we must move soon. Yet... you must promise me this reshiram, if it's a trap, you must fly away. No matter what happens, even if they kill me. I'm of no use to them but you..." he felt a whine hitch in his throat.
The great dragon lowered their head, touching the top of their snout to N's forehead. He held his companion, enveloping their head in his gentle hands, a weary smile on his face.
"I will not let that happen to you..." the dragon growled softly.
"But, if it does..." he mumbled. "You must promise... p-promise to-"
"I promise."
Eventually, the green haired man and his pokemon companion embraced, the human wrapping his arms around their chest. Their vast wings sheltered him, and they could have embraced forever, but one would eventually have to pull away, and it was N. He slowly removed himself from the deep hug. Nodding to each other, he slung himself over the mighty dragon's back, and they launched into the great blue sky.
...
It had been a few days since their search had began. Swooping near the cities, diving over the towns, gliding over the peaceful countryside. Until, one fateful evening. Reshiram had stopped, they began circling over one spot. They stared down, and N peered over their back. Below, there were a few people congregating. In the middle of the countryside? Not only that, but dressed in all black. Even if it wasn't team plasma, they had both agreed to check this strange gathering. Reshiram glided down, as to not startle the group of humans. N hopped off their back, raising both hands into the air immediately. He nodded to Reshiram, and the pokemon bounced back into the air. He narrowed his eyes. Upon their lapels, the team plasma insignia.
How they had disgraced their king.
Still, he kept his hands in the air. He looked around, sighing to himself mostly.
"I'd like to speak to my father, Ghetsis. All of you, don't you remember what you were fighting for?" He asked, in his usual monotonous tone, a slight twinge of sadness in his voice.
One of the grunts had piped up. "'You left us! Some king!"
"We'll take you to your dad alright. You and that dragon of yours!"
N yelled out "Reshiram. Go. Go now! It isn't safe!"
The dragon hesitated, for only a moment, keeping height, but soon ascended higher. N's instincts were correct, a huge metallic net just grazed reshiram's toe claw, before the dragon finally began to glide off into the distance, and over the horizon to safety.
"Shit. Get the boy, quickly."
The small group surrounded N. His arms stayed in the air and his hands over his head. Great plan, his mind mocked to himself. He gave himself up easily, one of the grunts grasped his hands, forcing them behind his back. He growled out, almost a childlike instinct of his, but his terror would be subsided as he felt a pain in his neck, and within a few seconds, his world went dark.
