Work Text:
There was just... something about him. And you couldn’t put your finger on what.
When you first got into the Spider Society, it was a dream come true. You finally got to meet people just like you, people who had their own twists to a story so similar, lives so similar. But out of all the Peters, clones, and others alike, there was one who stood out. And his name was Ben Reilly.
He piqued your interest the moment you saw him. I mean, how could he not. Compared to all the people strolling along, he stood out the most as he leaned against his designated pillar, hand in his hair as he brooded in monologue, others around him just passing by without a care in the world.
It was a little... sad.
So... you sat yourself down nearby and listened. And he seemed to notice. Appreciated it, though it was subtle. And you both thoroughly enjoyed it. So now it’s been a daily routine for you both whenever it’s time for your shift. Walk in, listen to a story of his, get to work, go home. Ever since that moment a few weeks ago, this had been consistent. And today was no exception.
You sit across from him, hand on your cheek as you listen to yet another dark and dramatic tale by the man himself. Though now in the cafeteria. The blonde ecstatically recollected a story about his youth, hands wildly gesturing at every scene he laid out. A few odd looks were sent your guys’ way, but neither of you really cared. Both of you were used to it.
He was in the middle of detailing the shocking discovery of another clone by the name of Kaine when suddenly your watch beeped. Ben stopped his monologue abruptly, looking at you expectantly, though with a tinge of sadness. You frowned and looked down at your watch, answering it.
Jess appeared as a small hologram, “Hey, y/n! We’re gonna need you for this next mission. An anomaly appeared on earth-423... a Doc Ock from earth-803 is tearing apart the town. You in?”
You glance at Ben’s sad look before sighing, “Yea, I’ll be there.”
“Great! See you there.”
A click was heard as Jess disappeared and you stood up from the table, “Well, it was nice seeing you, Ben... Same time tomorrow?”
The blonde sat there brooding for a moment before huffing and replying, “Yea... tomorrow.”
You frowned for a moment before quickly saying, “How about after my mission...? Y’know, so you can finish your story.”
Ben’s eyes brightened, “YES! Ahem... I mean yes. Sure. We can discuss more about my deep, troubling past later... After your mission... Yes.”
You giggled at his excitement as you said your goodbyes, walking away as you typed in the earth number and stepped though the portal, motivated by the promise of yet another story.
