Work Text:
Ben has never felt this way towards anyone.
The feeling that overcomes him at the mere sight of them, the little sparks in his heart as he recounts his epic tales with them in awe, even the small little glances they have during battles and the laughs that send joy to his heart...
It made him a little weak to the knees, and it was something he was not used to.
Sure you can say that love was a feeling he’s obviously felt before, Janine being the first person that comes to his mind at the thought, but never like this. It has never been this overbearing before.
And, come to think of it, he has never thought about this for this long before either.
Or thought this smartly before-
Snap“Ben?” Snap snap “You there, bud?”
The blonde blinked out of confusion at the sudden noise as he shook himself out of his short daydream. He found the source of it quite quickly as you removed your fingers from near his face.
“Oh, uh. What happened?“
“You zoned out there for a minute.”
“Oh.”
He removed his palm from his cheek, leaning back out of embarrassment before quickly putting on a smirk, “Just thinking about the latest, most burdening situation i had to deal with back on my earth. It’s too awesome for you to understand.”
You giggled as you gave him a disbelieving smile, eyebrow raised, “Well whatever it was it got you quiet. Must’ve been a tough one.”
He scoffed, “Oh, yea, super tough. Lots of gore, treachery, twists… y’know, the usual.”
You hummed and slowly nodded, strumming your fingers on the cafeteria table having your own little thought before looking back at him, “Well if it was that awesome… care to tell me about it?”
Ben felt his heart sink for a moment. Okay, Ben, you can do this. Just make some random bullshit up! Not hard to do considering you have had many awesome and harrowing backstories before, you just gotta pick one of them… should I go with Kraven? No, he’s too boring… Kaine? No, she’s heard of him a thousand times by now… Ve-
“Ben!”
He snapped back from his thoughts, eyes widening.
“You did it again.”
Ben felt himself start to sweat, “..Just preparing the way I should tell the story. There was a lot.”
“Ben, you go on rants for 30 minutes straight without any other thought going on in your brain. What’s on your mind?” You leaned forward, concern clearly shown now as you took his hand in yours. He felt his cheeks flush.
“I.. well…” You eye him for a moment before he lets out a sigh, “If I were to say it I wouldn’t say it here. Don’t think the moment would really suit a cafeteria.”
He stood up abruptly, reluctantly releasing your grip on his hand as he quickly ushered you out. He felt your confused glances as he eventually rushed you to a much more private area behind one of the pillars lining the building. When you two made it there he saw you hug your arms in concern as you awaited his explanation.
“Well?”
He teetered on his heels for a bit, looking to the side before sighing and looking at you, “Well, I lied about the recent amazing adventure-”
“I think I got that.” You giggled, though the crease in your brow remained.
He huffed and he heard a little ‘sorry, sorry’ before he continued, “I guess to cut it short I was thinking of you.”
Your eyes widened and both of your guys’ cheeks flushed, “W-what about me?”
His shyness was shown a bit as he looked to the side with a bit of his hair smudging itself onto his face, cheeks bright red. It felt almost out of place with how relaxed and outgoing he was before. He bit his lip a but before quickly saying, “You’re-really-really-pretty-and-it-would-be-really-cool-if-you-would-like-to-go-out-with-me.”
He looked away a bit dramatically, bracing himself for rejection (though he wasn’t sure why…) before he felt your hand guide his face towards yours, a smile on your face, “Ben, I would love to go out with you.”
His eyes widened, but a smile replaced his features, “You would?”
“Yes!”
Ben didn’t exactly remembered what happened to make him do so, probably out of extreme joy, but he placed his lips on yours. It was a quick kiss, a very sloppily done one too, but you eagerly reciprocated and as he pulled away a smirk grew.
“I knew you’d say yes. I’m too cool to be rejected.”
“Shush, don’t ruin the mood.” You laughed.
