Work Text:
Miles can’t explain the relief he felt when Gwen and everyone broke through the windows. They found him getting bloodied up by his alternate self. Hobie went straight for Miles' double, punching him across the face. Webbing him up quickly which he already broke out of. Gwen made quick work of his uncle and turned to Hobie as he saw the prowler get back up.
“Hobie! Get Miles out of this dimension!” She yelled heading straight for his double, immediately webbing his face and bro noise it down to smash against her knee. Miles looked back at the punk. He’s never been so happy to see the man he just met.
“Aye aye,” Hobie says, he hurried over to Miles' side, picking him up and holding him tight to his chest. Miles groaned from the pain, gripping tightly to Hobie’s vest. Hobie jumped out of the broken window that his teammates made.
He started to swing trying to get as far away as possible. Miles was gripping Hobie like a lifeline. The wind against his skin, his bloodied skin, made me shiver but reminded him of home.
“I got you love,” The taller said, holding Miles tighter. The injured boy grips loosened, trusting the man. It was always Hobie, he never even joined Miguel’s side, he was there with Miles the entire time, helped him escape, helped him change everything.
-
Somehow Miles fell asleep from the exhaustion from his injuries, completely trusting Hobie to protect him. He hasn’t even known the other spider for that long, but he knows Hobie wouldn’t leave him. It was a…. Feeling.
His eyes started to flutter open, being met with the view of a city, Miles city. He knew it when he saw it. He also became aware of what he was laying on. It was rough and soft, he felt so tired just laying on whatever it was, but then he brought his hand up to lay it next to his face, and felt a knee, then a leg. He was laying on Hobie's lap.
Miles quickly sat up, looking around in a panic. But was only met with the friendly face of the older boy. Who in this moment had a small smile playing on his lips.
“How’d you sleep?” Hobie said, the accent so thick Miles wanted to store the sound in his mind.
Miles relaxed slightly and looked out over the buildings. He tapped his finger against the cement below him, sparks of blue attacking the ground.
“The best I ever had,” Miles said, a laugh following, Hobie smirked and laughed with him. Miles wasn’t lying.
“Where are the others?” Miles said, Hobie frowned then looked over at Miles who’s gaze was still on the city line.
“They are trying to figure out how to remove any altercation evidence of you being in that universe.” Hobie said.
“There can’t be a trail, Miguel would be able to follow it.”
The image of his double appeared in his head, the look of nothing, he didn’t look like a person, he looked like he’d killed people without feeling anything. That couldn’t have been his alternate, Miles would never do that he wouldn’t!
Miles shifted closer to Hobie, feeling safer in his presence. The punk could see the tears in his eyes before Miles felt them. Hobie didn’t know how to comfort people, never has. But in that moment he pulled Miles against his chest, holding him tight. Miles held him tighter, the tears from his eyes seeping into Hobie’s shirt.
“Miles, look at me,” Hobie muttered, placing his hands on Miles' cheeks. Wiping the tears from his face.
The younger boy looked up at Hobie and tried to keep eye contact. The brown in Hobie’s eyes reminded him of chocolate. His eyes were pretty. Hobie didn’t need to ask what was wrong, he knew.
“That wasn’t you, not our Miles, you would never hurt anyone, you are a good person, love” Hobie said, his breath becoming uneasy at the sight of Miles so broken.
Miles leaned into Hobie’s hand, relaxing against him as more tears rolled down his cheeks.
At that same moment Miles realized everything, all the events that just happened and the feeling that swirled in his stomach as Hobie’s gaze made him feel nothing but love. The boy never considered Hobie as a person he’d fall for but he also never considered having to run away from a bunch of Spider-men because he decided he wasn’t going to follow canon.
So in his mind this was the most normal thing to happen.
“Thank you, Hobie. Thank you for saving me, for believing in me,” Miles said, putting his hand over Hobie’s that still held Miles' cheek.
Hobie smiled and his eyes started to become glossy, he was the first to break eye contact, looking down at his lap and saying something quiet.
“Is there anything else?” Miles barely heard it, but he knew Hobie wanted him to hear. The punk lifted his head back up to stare at Miles.
Miles smiled gently, and rubbed his thumb along Hobie’s hand, staring at him without shame. Hobie almost looked scared, that Miles doesn’t feel the same, that this whole time Miles was completely oblivious to every move Hobie made.
“And I should thank Gwen,” Miles said smiling, Hobie’s heart dropped, his throat closing up.
But Miles didn’t let the torture reside in Hobie.
“For coming to me, because if she didn’t, i wouldn’t have met you,” Miles continues and Hobie’s heart flutters and a smile appears on his face. Miles smiles brightly, he breaks eye contact and looks down as he mutters four words.
“I like you, Hobie,” Miles said, his heart felt like it was being squeezed. It felt amazing saying those words.
When he looked back up at the older boy tears ran down his cheek and a brilliant smile on his face.
“I like you too, Miles,” Hobie said giggling through his sobs. Miles smiled back.
Hobie just couldn’t let go of Miles. He slid his hands back more to hold gently at the back of his head. He leaned forward and rested his forehead against Miles. Taking in the closeness, breathing with Miles. He was about to ask Miles if he could kiss him, but… Miles beat him to it.
The younger boy's lips pressed gently against the punks. Miles hands moving to rest against Hobie’s chest gripping his vest in his palms.
Hobie never wanted to break away, the feeling of Miles' lips against his own made him feel real. That this was real, that they were real.
Hobie didn’t know how to date, especially being a romantic, it just wasn’t his thing. But having Miles in front of him and telling him that he Miles Morales likes Hobie, made him want to learn, made him want to give Miles everything.
Miles pulled away first, immediately searching for the others' eyes. “Thank you,” Hobie muttered. He opened his eyes to meet Miles.
“For what?” Miles whispers to Hobie whose adoration for the spider only grew the more he looked at him.
“For deciding your own fate, picking your family, picking us,” Hobie eyes searched the man’s face in front of him.
Miles smiled. He reached up and ran his thumb across Hobie’s cheek bone, his eyes shined.
“I picked you since you wrapped your arms around me on the bridge, after I messed up the canon.” Miles said, keeping his gaze on Hobie’s reaction.
Hobie flushed immediately, and Miles smirked suspiciously.
“And you know your bright pink right now, it outlines you completely.” Miles says smiling, Hobie turned almost red from embarrassment.
“I don’t,” Hobie said looking away, Miles laughed and placed his hand on Hobie’s cheek turning him back towards Miles.
“I’m gonna kiss you,” Hobie said to Miles. Miles smiled
“Alright,” Miles breathes slowly, completely trusting the man in front of him.
Hobie leaned forward and softly slotted his lips in between Miles, the kiss gentle and romantic. Miles moved his hands around Hobie’s neck. Running his fingers through the bottom of Hobie’s neck gripping his hair. Hobie’s hands were wrapped around Miles' back. Holding him close. As he deepened the kiss.
But before anything could happen, a portal opened on the roof right next to the boys. Immediately as the two heard the portal they broke the kiss, Miles' gaze met Gwen’s who was smirking. And before the punk and artist could pull away from each other every Spider-Man on their team stepped through the portal.
They both looked over at their team embarrassed, but Hobie quickly recovered.
“What are you guys doing, you want a show or something?” Hobie said smirking now, making the others embarrassed.
“Oh no, we are just surprised,” Gwen said, her fake embarrassed face turning into a smirk.
“I bet you are,” Hobie said glaring at Gwen and she smiled back at him. Miles started to laugh into Hobie’s neck, holding him close. Hobie hid his face against Miles before lifting him back up.
Hobie got up from the roof first pulling Miles up with him. The shorter boy is not letting go of Hobie’s hand.
“We have everything cleaned up, but we still have work to do, and since Miguel knows that you helped Miles escape you are gonna be on his hit list so, I’m gonna have to tell you to go home Hobie, it’s not safe for you in this universe,” Gwen explains looking back and forth at her two friends.
Hobie immediately didn’t like the idea, he gripped Miles hand tighter.
“Than Miles isn’t safe here either,” Hobie said, giving Gwen a weird look. She grimantes at Hobie she didn’t want to tell him this but she had too.
“In order to catch the spot we need Miles, and I know you don’t lik-” Gwen said but Hobie stopped her.
“Of course I don’t bloody like it! He could die!” Hobie said, you could see he was distressed. Miles knew the inevitable.
He looked up at Hobie and led his gaze down to him.
Hobie's eyes softened at Miles' gaze. “I’ll be alright, you know me I will be careful, I’m not going to risk myself,” Hobie frowned at Miles' words.
“They need me, and if it was the other way around you would be saying the same thing to me,” Miles kept his voice quiet, keeping this to themselves.
Hobie looked down knowing Miles was right.
“Please don't do anything risky, we haven’t even gone on a date yet love,” Hobie said smiling at Miles.
“Of course, anything for you,” Miles said, he was being sappy but he didn’t care.
Hobie nodded, he placed a kiss on Miles' lips. They both knew the dangers, they knew that one of them could die. But they also knew they had no choice unless they decided to abandon this universe and Miles would never do that. He would never leave his family.
Miles broke away from the kiss and pulled Hobie into a hug, the taller boy wrapped his arms tightly around Miles.
“Don’t do anything stupid okay?” Miles said, his face hiding against Hobie’s neck. Hobie smiled.
“I promise,”
They pulled away. Hobie touched his watch a few times, a portal appearing out of thin air.
His hand was intertwined with Miles, his hand gripping tightly, his body refusing to let go.
Hobie smiled at Miles, he smiled back.
Miles' grip loosened and Hobie’s hand started to slip out of his grip and the last thing he saw before Hobie disappeared was the smile he loved.
