A Swing Away

Summary:

“As long as this love's still fleeting,”

Miles closed his eyes as well, listening to the boy next to him.

There was a pause in the singing, Miles smiling at the music.

“Because I like him,”

Miles opened his eyes at that lyric. He found Hobie staring at him, seeing the same warmth and affection. The older boy looked away quickly, his hands stilling on the strings.

Miles smiled and moved closer, Hobie didn’t look back embarrassed that Miles caught him staring. He reached up and slid his hand against the Punk’s cheek, holding his face gently. Hobie turned to look at Miles because of the action and found a loving gaze.

The shorter boy turned his body to face Hobie, his other hand found its way onto Hobie’s other cheek. The punk's heart was beating out of his chest, his breathing uneven. They’ve never been this close.

His fingers twinged nervously.

Miles got even closer.

Work Text:

From the moment Hobie laid eyes on Miles his heart was pumping out of his chest. He didn't know why, there was something… about him.

When he revealed his face to Miles he was almost nervous, didn't know how he would react. But he wasn't expecting a comment like that.

“How are you even cooler under your mask?” Miles muttered loud enough for the taller boy to hear. Hobie smirked and immediately responded.

“I was this cool the whole time,” Hobie said with a smile and he could see the nervousness flood the smaller boy's face.

At first, he was fond of Miles, he may have made fun of his suit but he adored the design, he could already tell how talented he was. The love he had for his family and his friends, made Hobie feel something he hasn't felt in a long time. Then when Miles started to rebel and refuse to go with Miguel’s plan, is when Hobie started to realize he wasn’t just fond of Miles it was something else entirely, something more complex. Something consistent.

These emotions that he felt stretched until they defeated the Spot, all the way until Miles had his arms wrapped around Hobie’s waist holding him tightly, realizing they did it. It still stuck as he protected Miles from Miguel, and still stuck as Miguel almost killed him. But no matter how much the punk risked for Miles that overpowering feeling never went away.

Hobie, even after everything cooled down, had needed to know about Miles, know how school was going, how his parents were taking it about him being Spiderman, he wanted to know how his art was coming along. He just needed to know he was okay.

He realized how overprotective he was being, but come on, look at all the stuff they went through, it's hard to not be worried about your friends.

-

Hobie decided it has been too long since he saw Miles, he didn’t feel like himself without the other Spider’s presence. His fingers hit his watch in an order that would send him to Earth-1610, as he hit the button to initiate the tunnel the future gadget Miles gave him buzzed in his pocket. Hobie pulled it out and turned the screen on to look at what made the object buzz.

The corner of his mouth automatically turned up at the text that was displayed on the screen. He read the message below Miles' name.

Miles: Hey! I was wondering if you could stop by? I have some ideas for a new suit design and want your opinion.

He smiled and moved to open the message typing back.

Hobie: sure thing I was just about to stop by

Bouncing dots immediately appeared under his message and Hobie smiled.

Miles: Great! I’ll see you in a few.

The punk couldn't describe the feeling of knowing Miles wanted him to be there with him, and that he was also thinking about Hobie when he was thinking about Miles. He didn't wait any longer and slid the device back into his pocket going straight through the portal.

It sent him to the roof of Miles' parent’s apartment. The view of Miles' dimension, set Hobie at ease as he stood on top of the building. He started to crawl down the side to Miles's window when he got a text.

Miles: OH I forgot to mention I’m not home, I’m at my dorm. Sorry!

Hobie smiled and rolled his eyes affectionately.

Hobie: it's alright love

He loved to tease Miles, he loved how flustered he became, it was adorable.

Miles: Also Ganke is in the dorm, don't want you to be startled.

Hobie frowned at that message, He liked Ganke, he was Miles' friend. But seeing how close they are and that they basically live together. It made Hobie want to take Miles and leave, just them..

Hobie slipped the device once again into his pocket and started towards the dorms.

-

He arrived at the dorms and crawled to Miles's window opening it, Ganke was sitting in his chair holding a game controller in his hand, he was completely distracted to notice the Spider come in. Hobie crawled onto the ceiling.

But Miles, who was sitting on the floor with a suit draped over his lap, immediately turned to look at Hobie who was laying back on the ceiling. Miles immediately jumped up, the brightest smile graced his face.

“Hobie!” Miles said he immediately jumped to the ceiling landing right on top of Hobie, his legs landing next to the punk's waist. Miles wrapped his arms around The older boy's neck, hugging him tightly.

“I missed you too,” Hobie said, the embrace causing his heart to skip a beat. Miles pulled away and stared into Hobie's eyes, he realized how close they were so Miles dropped back down to the floor, and Hobie followed.

“Hello,” Ganke said, still staring at his computer screen. Hobie still had an arm around Miles.

“Aye,” Hobie said in response, Miles flushed and turned the punk away from his friend and towards the floor where the suit was lying. Hobie sat down on the floor with Miles and the artist picked up the fabric and laid it on Hobie’s lap.

“So what do you think?” Miles said, looking up at Hobie and watching the punk's expression. The older teen held the suit in his hand, his thumb going over the material. Hobie scanned the suit looking at the new design. He smiled.

The spider symbol in the middle wasn’t spray paint anymore it was a long-legged spider, it was boarded by a thick red outline that went down the suit stopping at a point. It continued up to a point on both shoulders going around the shoulder to the back where it met another spider on the back. Below the red outline, the suit is black but above the red lining like a web ran to the top of the suit, and yeah his eye outlines are bright red.

Hobie met Miles' gaze, “It’s bloody brilliant, Miles!” Hobie practically shouted. Miles immediately giggled and was muttering ‘thank yous’ under his breath.

Hobie didn’t realize the way he stared at Miles, some people would say Hobie loved Miles but…

Oh Hell.

Hobie Brown is in love with Miles Morales.

And as soon as he finally figured it out Miles was already up walking over to Ganke who paused the game to look at the suit. Hobie watched as Miles' smile grew when his friend complimented his design, the way he grew shy at the praise. Hobie felt something stir in his chest, it wasn’t annoyance or anger.

Ganke reached out and purposely placed his hand on top of Miles that rested on the desk. Hobie grimaced.

Hobie was jealous.

But outta nowhere Ganke got a call, or text whatever it was bloody called. And he starts to freak out, muttering something about, missing something, paper? He could hear Miles's sweet laugh, Hobie couldn’t put it together before Ganke was already out the door.

He turned away back down at the floor and pulled his guitar over his head strumming the strings lightly, his fingers shifting from note to note in some random combination. His senses picked up on Miles looking towards him and coming to sit by him again.

“What are you playing?” Miles said his knees pulled up to his chest, his arms wrapped around them, his head resting on his arms looking towards the punk.

“Nothing specific, ain’t gotta scooby doo of what to play,” Hobie said not turning towards Miles, the younger boy still stared at the boy beside him, he smiled at the British slang, it was funny half the time. Miles' smile faded and he looked at Hobie, his eyes becoming glossy.

“Play something about love,” Miles said and Hobie strained his neck by turning so fast. But Miles didn’t make fun of the motion, he just smiled at the punk. Hobie was in fact in love with Miles, he couldn't deny the way he traced Miles’ face with his eyes. The way he blocks out every other noise just to only hear Miles' voice. But there was Gwen, it was always Gwen.

Hobie smiled and looked down at his guitar smiling.

“Well Gweny showed me this song from your dimension that I liked and it’s pretty sappy, and not the type of music I listen to but I kind of love it,” Hobie said, his voice not his normal volume. Hobie fell hard for Miles, he fell too far, he couldn't climb out.

Miles motioned for him to play resting his arms under his head. Hobie nodded and he thanked Gwen for getting him a CD of it cause he wouldn’t have remembered the song.

He positioned his fingers on the strings, pulling out his pick to start strumming.

Miles listened to gentle notes coming from the guitar, and he was surprised to hear Hobie begin to sing.

“I’d give the world to her,”

Miles stared in awe, Hobie's voice was, Miles couldn’t explain it. He felt like a sailor, falling for a siren's song.

“As long as my hearts still beating,” Hobie sang, his eyes closed, his hand strumming in a natural pattern, mesmerizing Miles.

“As long as he’s next to me,” Hobie didn’t realize the change in pronouns he made, but Miles did. His heart was beating quicker at the thought of Hobie singing about him. Miles has been aware of his growing crush on the boy since last year, and everything he tried to do to get rid of it made it worse.

His head pressed against Hobie’s.

He could feel the other boy's breath on his lips, Miles moved in closer, slow, tender. Hobie's lips parted automatically as he felt Miles' lips touch his. His lips slotted in between Miles. His chest grew stiff, tight. Hobie couldn't describe the feeling of Miles touching him, finally being this close to him, so so close.

His lips against Miles stayed until they couldn’t breathe. Hobie pulled away first, slowly parting for Miles. Unable to open his eyes.

But when he did, his chest relaxed and he smiled at the realization of what just happened. Miles smiled at the sight of Hobie.

“Why did you do that?” Hobie said through huffs and smiles. Miles moved his hands lower onto Hobie’s lower neck.

“Because I like him too,” Miles said and Hobie dropped his head, the bloody song.

Miles laughed, dropping his hands, and Hobie looked up to reach forward and hold Miles's face. He brought him in for another kiss. The second kiss was longer, savoring the feeling of Miles's lips.

Miles pulled away and smiled brightly, wrapping his arms around Hobie’s neck. He knocked them both down, ending up laying on the floor. Hobie laughed and tucked his head into Miles' neck.

Miles lifted himself off his face an inch away from his face. Hobie starred in adoration.

“Wanna go swing with me?” Miles said, Hobie smiled and laughed slightly. His eyes met the other boys.

“I would bloody love to,” Hobie said, his smile almost sticking to his face. Miles smiled back and got up quickly.

“I can also test my new suit,” Miles said muttering, while picking his suit up and running into his bathroom to change. Hobie could see how excited Miles was, and how happy he was, and that made him happy.

Hobie parted with his guitar, placing it on Miles' bunk hidden by the fluffy comforter. He pulled his hair together, slipping on his mask. Hobie was so desperately in love, he was smiling at the bathroom door while he waisted, bloody hell…The shorter boy came out of the bathroom in his suit, with his mask in hand.

The window was still open from Hobie making his way in so it proved helpful for Hobie. The punk sat down in the window seal, as Miles walked over to him. He slipped back out, falling out the window.

When Miles ran over to the window to look out, Hobie stood on the side of the building and Miles got deja vu.

But instead of staring at Hobie with hope, he stared at him with a smile, knowing Hobie wanted him just as much as he wanted the punk. He never felt this much for someone as he felt for Hobie.

Miles jumped out the window, shooting his webs to shut his window. He went diving past Hobie, the older boy laughing and diving after him. Miles shot out his web swinging a few feet above the light posts, Hobie caught up swinging ahead, and he kept going higher and higher, scaling the buildings.

-

They started near a certain building that Miles had wanted Gwen to give him hope. Hobie walked up the side of the building, Miles landing right behind him, catching up to his side. He walked in front of Hobie.

“So you like Brooklynn so far?” Miles said, watching the spikes on Hobie’s mask, The punk turned his head a huff coming from the boy. Miles smiled and got closer to the taller boy.

“Hm?” The younger boy hummed to get the other spider’s attention. He turned his attention back towards Miles, he reached his hand up, and slipped his mask off. He walked over to Miles and leaned forward until Miles was laying back on the wall. Miles flushed having Hobie initiate the interaction.

Hobie placed his hands next to Miles' head and leaned in closer. Hobie pretended to start thinking and turned his head away just to turn back a second later.

“Well there's a certain thing I like ‘bout Brooklyn…” Hobie started his voice in a whisper as he lifted his hand to slip under Miles's mask pulling it up and off. Miles' eyes met Hobie’s, he leaned in closer and brushed his lips against Miles.

“You” Hobie muttered before placing his lips against the others. Miles immediately relaxed, leaning more into the boy. Hobie slipped his hands behind Miles pulling his body closer.

Hobie pulled away first, he was met with Miles smiling face. He pushed himself up from the wall pulling Miles up with him by the hand. Miles stumbled and Hobie led them the rest of the way up the building getting to the top.

Miles sat down on the stone, Hobie following suit. The younger boy closed his eyes taking in the breeze and everything around him, he felt relieved.

He was taken out of his trance as he felt Hobie grab his hand slotting in between his fingers. Miles' eyes fluttered but stayed shut. He gripped Hobie’s hand tighter.

“I love you,”

Miles froze his body tensing.

Did he hear that right? He didn’t know maybe his brain was just giving hope, or maybe he was dreaming? Miles opened his eyes and looked towards the punk, who was looking out over the city.

“I love you, Miles,” Hobie said again, smiling gently to himself. His other half sat there stunned and unable to react. Hobie turned to see Miles's starstruck face and smiled bigger.

“You, Miles Morales, are the love of my life,” he said, placing his palm against Miles' cheek, caressing his cheekbone. That’s when Miles broke at those words, his eyes started to water and he smiled.

“I love you, Hobie,” Miles said, his words messy and deep. Hobie smiled and Miles leaned in and kissed Hobie hard.

He almost fell off the building for how fast Miles was. But he held Miles close, kissing him desperately. Everything was perfect, they were perfect.

The sun started to fade into night as Hobie and Miles lost time with each other.
