Work Text:
Blitzø dusted himself off after having hauled himself and the heavy ass book over the balcony edge outside of Stolas’ room. He huffed, not in the mood for anything other than flopping onto his sofa back home and ignoring life outside of it.
Damn the fucking owl for texting him to bring the Grimoire, he didn’t want to be around the feathery fuck tonight.
He just wasn’t in the mood for company.
Of any kind.
“Fucking damn it,” Blitzø groaned, hanging his head back as he dragged the book off the balcony balustrade and trudged over to the Prince’s still-closed balcony doors.
He cursed lowly before wrenching them open-
“No! No, oh for fuck’s sake!”
Blitzø froze, the sound of Stolas’ voice registering but everything else about it sounding completely new and unfamiliar.
Suspicions raised, Blitzø held the book close to his chest as he looked about the empty bedroom, padding over to the door and opening it up.
“Dad, maybe you should just… I dunno. Breathe and just- Dad. You gotta calm down!”
Ah.
They were in the Main Hall.
“How can I possibly calm down?! It is everywhere, Octavia! When you asked me if you could borrow that book I did not mean you could practice havoc with it!”
Well damn.
The flamboyant fuck sounded pissed.
Blitzø hadn’t thought the owl had it in him, but surprise surprise.
The Imp was almost impressed.
“…I mean, you didn’t ask me to specify.”
“Octavia.”
Cue the teen daughter sassing her Father. Blitzø couldn’t help but smirk, leaning back against the wall next to the Hall’s closed entrance.
“Don’t be clever with me, young lady. You very well know that I would not have allowed this without supervision.”
“It’s not that bad, Dad.”
“The fact I can’t rescind the bloody spell means it is that bad!”
“You never told me I couldn’t practice.”
“Via.”
“Well, you didn’t!”
“Do you not think I have enough work to do right now?!”
“Don’t you think you’re overreacting?”
“Overreacting?!”
Ooh Blitzø knew that tone like the back of his hand and he quickly turned around, marching into the Hall with little fanfare.
Any crass greeting he was going to use in order to divert Stolas’ ire was promptly forgotten upon the sight before him.
“Uh… the… fuck?”
“Blitzø! Oh thank goodness, you have the Grimoire.”
Blitzø blinked widely at the mounds of icy white fluff that completely filled the Hall and immediately flinched back, keeping the book out of Stolas’ reach.
“Oh fuck no, you’re not getting this until you tell me how the fuck this happened,” he exclaimed, ducking under Stolas’ long arms and scampering over to Octavia who was sporting a taken-aback expression.
“How’d you conjure up this shit?” he asked her excitedly, ignoring the Prince who looked utterly stupefied.
“Uhm… I just… recited an elemental spell that was written under the winter solstice?” Octavia offered, nervously glancing to her Father who was beginning to scowl.
“Blitzø, please give me the Grimoire before this mess melts and floods my Palace.”
“Nah, you’re missing half the fucking fun here,” Blitzø laughed, delighted to see that he himself wasn’t the only one having a bad day. “Your Dad’s being a tight-ass but this is fucking funny. Have you made a fucking snow man yet?”
“N-no?”
“Snow Devil? Thrown a snowball? Here, hold the fucking book whilst I pelt your old man for dragging me out over something as trivial as snow,” Blitzø rambled, shoving the Grimoire into Octavia’s arms whilst grasping a palmful of the white, icy powder.
Stolas’ cerise-rose hues blew wide before he straightened. “Don’t you dare throw anything at me, Blitzø! I am warning you! I will not tolerate any such behaviour in my-”
Blitzø cackled as his too-perfectly formed snowball hit the owl right in the upper eyes, causing him to stumble back and fall on his behind.
Blitzø continued laughing, though Octavia nudged him, noting that her Father was remaining in place. It took a moment for Blitzø to catch up, instantly catching the owl’s glossy hues that were now slightly red-rimmed as he began rubbing his forehead obsessively.
Well yikes.
“Uh… fuck. Why don’t you just… leave me with the book and uh…”
“Yeah, here,” Octavia handed it over with a worried expression, hesitantly trudging through the fruits of her wayward spell and pausing at the door.
“S-sorry, Dad.”
Blitzø sighed as she left before fixing Stolas with a flat look.
“You seriously getting your fucking bird puss in a twist over this?”
Stolas pushed himself up, the rigidness in his frame giving away how upset he was though he wouldn’t turn around.
Blitzø glanced heavenward.
It was just hurt pride. Stolas wasn’t that fucking sensitive.
“What gives? It’s just a bunch of fucking snow!”
Stolas didn’t say anything, still fussing over where he’d been hit and Blitzø stuttered when a definite sniffle resounded out, echoing in the hall as it was followed by another and then another.
No fucking way.
“Are you seriously fucking… crying?!” Blitzø exclaimed, in utter disbelief as Stolas staggered. It was not slow motion in which the owl went down again, slipping upon the icy slush that had formed as a result of the melting snow that Octavia had brought into existence.
The sharp inhale was loud, but the crack of fragile bones against solid marble flooring was even louder and Blitzø was moving before he could actually stop himself.
He hurriedly rounded the owl’s sprawled out frame, realising that he had no-where to put the book which he needed to keep out of the fucking snow.
“Fuck- are you okay?” he asked, shucking off his coat and dumping it down in order to lay the book upon it safely. The second he was free of his precious cargo, Blitzø was hastily tugging the Prince into a sitting position, noting how pained the owl’s expression was.
He automatically cupped Stolas’ face, worried because fuck that was a slip and a half.
“I th- think so,” Stolas stammered, holding the back of his head.
Blitzø immediately slid his hand under Stolas’, gently feeling around the feathers which were wet and terribly clumped together.
He wasn’t bleeding though.
“Snow softened my fall,” Stolas croaked out, rubbing his shoulders and arching his back lightly with a wince.
Blitzø clenched his jaw, the fun he’d been finding within the situation having all but evaporated. He sat back on his heels, studying the Prince who also had his upper set of eyes tightly closed.
“Did… that snowball knock your little guys out?” He asked tentatively, disquiet welling up when Stolas hesitantly nodded, raising a hand to his forehead again.
Guilt was not a foreign feeling to Blitzø, but he was surprised at how strongly he felt it when Stolas blinked back tears again.
“Fuck… I’m- I really didn’t think it would actually hurt you,” he stressed, scooting closer and pushing Stolas’ face up into light. “Lemme see.”
“I can’t open them,” Stolas replied pitifully, sounding a little more miserable than Blitzø had ever heard him.
He puffed out a sigh and swiped the pads to his thumbs over the tiny iced lashes framing Stolas’ smaller pair of cerise-rose hues. “Didn’t mean to fuck you up like that.”
“They burn,” Stolas worried, shivering lightly.
“Y-yeah… snow to the face batters when it gets in your eyes,” Blitzø muttered, genuinely feeling bad because Stolas wasn’t even angry at him.
Which made everything ten times worse.
Riddled with discontent, Blitzø leant forward and gingerly pressed a kiss to each smaller eyelid, the feathers around them chilled and a little slick from the tears that had spilled as a result of the icy impact.
He felt Stolas tense up under the touch and pulled back to find the owl blushing terribly, cheeks rosy and eyelashes fluttering in disbelief.
“You’re so fucking cute.”
Blitzø stuttered when he realised that he’d voiced the sentiment out loud, but quickly decided it was worth-it when the Prince before him fluffed up and hid his face entirely.
“Don’t,” Stolas mumbled, pushed Blitzø back with no real force. “You were a jerk for throwing that at me.”
Blitzø grinned, taking hold of the palm that pressed against his chest. “Yeah… I know,” he mused, leaning in and nuzzling Stolas’ warm cheek. “I can make it up to you.”
“Can you give me my full sight back?”
“You haven’t fucking gone blind, Stolas,” Blitzø chuckled, still cradling the Prince’s heart-shaped features. The more he took in Stolas’ disheveled state, the more his heart seemed to soften and Blitzø sighed, deftly tucking several stray feathers aside. “Sorry I pelted it at you like that.”
Stolas swooned then and there, tilting himself into Blitzø’s palms. “It’s alright. I was unreasonably upset over this and I know that.”
“Nah… kinda is a mess in here. I know kids take the piss but with magic it’s a whole other bitch to deal with,” Blitzø murmured, a little lost in how beautiful Stolas was. “Should get you cleaned up and… get to fixing this shit.”
“Mhm… did you… try to kiss them better?” Stolas asked shyly, looking marginally hopeful.
“Didn’t fucking work, did it,” Blitzø scoffed, shaking his head.
“… I hurt here too,” Stolas told him, idly tapping his beak.
Blitzø barked out a laugh, squishing the Prince’s cheeks together before pressing a kiss to his mouth. “Fucking dork.”
“They may not heal my current predicament, but they certainly improve my emotional state,” Stolas sighed, folding his long legs under himself. He wobbled as he stood and Blitzø was hesitant to let him go lest he fall over again.
“You sure you’re okay? That was a really-” Blitzø’s breath hitched as he slipped, though he was lucky given Stolas’ reflexes. “Fuck… yeah no, I’m over this fucking shit. Get rid of it before we actually snap something.”
“You sacrificed your coat, darling,” Stolas noted, carefully retrieving the Grimoire.
“Yeah. I’m a good boyfriend really.”
“Indeed,” Stolas drawled, still without his full vision as he flicked through several pages.
Blitzø kept quiet as Stolas blearily recited the spell needed, watching as the mounds of melting white vanished into fine dust.
“Goodness, that girl is growing in her abilities faster than I can keep her occupied,” Stolas sighed, rubbing his temples.
“Headache?” Blitzø guessed, folding his soggy coat over an arm.
“No thanks to you. That was really awful of you.”
“Good aim though.”
“Blitzø.”
“I’m just saying, it was good fucking aim.”
“I wonder if my aim would be so pinpoint if I chose to practice spells on you.”
Blitzø paused, kicking open the Main Hall doors. “I can make you tea? Run you a bath? Help you preen?”
Stolas tittered, leaning down to kiss the Imp on the cheek before walking into the kitchen. “There’s my good boyfriend.”
“You accept my apology then?”
“Always.”
Blitzø grinned, the irritation of the day having dissipated with the snow. He hoisted himself up onto Stolas back, arms wrapped around the owl’s shoulders as he snuffled the damp quills atop the Prince’s head.
“I can kiss everything better in the bath.”
“Right in front of my fucking salad.”
“You’re not even eating a salad, magical brat. Your Dad says no more fucking secret voodoo in the Hall!”
“You’re the one who threw a snowball at him.”
“I apologised for that.”
“You’re also the one who said I should learn to cast snow after me and Loona watched Frozen at yours!”
Blitzø clamped his mouth shut as Stolas whirled around, having forgotten that little titbit and the Imp flashed his lover a blank glance. “I didn’t tell her to do it behind your back.”
“Blitzø…”
“I swear, I fucking never said shit about doing it behind your back.”
“You said to reenact the sister scene with Loona without it going wrong!”
“Well you fucking did it wrong! Where’s Loony, huh?!”
Octavia went quiet, another guilty look crossing her features. “In my room. Waiting for me to call her for the indoor snow-day. That you said we should have.”
“Blitzø I swear to the nine rings of Pride-”
Blitzø inhaled sharply as he grasped Stolas’ face and turned it round, near-smashing their mouths together and causing the owl to stumble into the kitchen side.
“Gross.”
He ignored Octavia’s complaint and pulled back, having rendered Stolas quite speechless. “Did that kiss it better?”
Stolas opened his mouth then snorted, hooking the back of Blitzø’s shirt and peeling him away. “As much as I love you, darling, not this time. Via, do get Loona will you? I’ll cast the spell this time.”
Octavia perked up, already smiling wide. “Really?!”
“Mhm. Time for some snowball practice.”
Blitzø wilted as he watched the owlette go. “Am I the fucking target?”
“You are the fucking target.”
“Great. Apology not accepted?”
“Not yet,” Stolas chimed, tilting Blitzø’s face towards his own and kissing him. “If you’re felled by them that badly, I shall amend every wound with a kiss.”
Blitzø puffed out a breath as he dangled over Stolas’ arm.
“Loona’s gonna pelt me to death for getting you like I did earlier.”
“Oh quite, I do love being the favourite.”
“You’re not her fucking favourite!”
“Oi!” Loona snarled, appearing in the doorway. “I’m coming for you, Blitzø.”
She trudged off towards the Main Hall and Blitzø deflated further.
“I’m gonna end up with blue fucking balls every which way.”
He also ended up with brain freeze, but such was life in love and war.
At least Stolas did indeed, kiss everything better.
