Work Text:

Chishiya stared at the flowers she had shoved in his face. Kuina had.. Picked him flowers? Why? Where did she even find these?

Chishiya raised a brow at her, wanting her to explain. Kuina just grinned at him, her eyes full of nothing but delight. No ulterior motives, nothing but delight by the fact she had picked him flowers.

He took the flowers from her hand tentatively and her smile somehow grew even more. Chishiya rubbed his thumb over one of the light yellow petals, it was soft under his touch.

“Why?” Chishiya asked, running his fingers over the various textures of the flowers. Some were simple, yellow ones but others were white and had a rougher feeling to them.

“Thought they were pretty,” Kuina answered but it didn't help him. Why did she give him them? She could have just kept them for herself.

Chishiya tilted his head as he stared down at the flowers. They were pretty, Just like Kuina said.

“Why give them to me, though?” he looked up to meet her gaze, puzzlement slightly making its way onto his face.

Kuina just hummed at his question and leaned against the wall and crossed her arms, her smile still there clear as day.

Chishiya frowned at the lack of an answer but didn't ask again. He’ll just have to figure it out himself then, he supposed.

His gaze went back to the flowers. Flowers were usually given as gifts for friends or partners. Or on some occasions a romantic gesture. But those were usually red, yellow flowers were often used for friendship and she had gotten him yellow flowers. But that doesn't explain why-

“I would've gotten you some red ones but I couldn't find any,” Kuina said as she switched her fake cigarette to the other side of her mouth.

Oh,

Oh .

She surely didn't know. It was flowers after all. A simple gesture just to be kind to a friend.

Chishiya let his gaze go up to her face. Her grin was softer and her head was tilted to the side. The fake cigarette in her mouth was bouncing, she was nervous.

Ah,

She did know.

“Huh,” He stated dumbly, his gaze flicking back down to the flowers quickly, imagining them as red ones instead.

“It's the thought that counts, right?” Kuina stared at the flowers as he did.

Chishiya nodded, his own thoughts going haywire.

Chishiya swallowed, his throat suddenly dry. He should say something. What though? It was extremely rare for him to be confused about what to say, and it was over something as simple as flowers.

“Kuina,” Chishiya spoke, his eyes still locked onto the flowers. Kuina forced her eyes to his face, trying to read his expression. It was blank.

“I…” He began.

“I have no clue how to keep a plant alive,” Chishiya said as he looked up at her with a blank look.

Kuina let out a surprised laugh. Expecting him to say something more than... His inexperience in taking care of plants.

Her surprised laugh turned into a full-on giggle fit. And Chishiya's expression softened. A small smile made its way onto his lips. It wasn't his usual smug smirk, it was a genuine smile. Not a hint of his typical arrogance on his face.

Once Kuinas' laughter died down, Chishiya spoke up again. “I don't know how to take care of a plant, so,” he paused, eyes glancing at the flowers once more.

“Could you help me?”

Kuina grinned. “I don't know how to take care of a plant either.”

Chishiya gave her a fake unimpressed look before it melted away into fondness.

“We could figure it out together?”

“Yeah, I'd like that.”

Notes:

The flowers died in a week btw (dont gives these two anymore plants‼️)
