Work Text:
Chishiya leaned his head against his hand, a frown making its way onto his face. His other hand was occupied by a book. a bad one at that. It started strong but decreased in quality with each page.
Should he finish the book or throw it out the window and let the drunk partying mass have at it?
Chishiya let out a soft hum before flipping to the next page. He decided on both. He doesn't start things and not finish them, no matter how grueling it is.

Chishiya flicked his eyes over toward the door to his room. Someone was coming in. He kept his gaze locked on the door until he saw a mess of dreadlocks. Kuina.
“Knocking would be nice,” Chishiya said as he forced his gaze back down to the book. “Knocking is boring, I gotta keep you on your toes.” Kuina closed the door behind her and made her way to the couch he was on, she plopped down next to him and leaned over to get a view of the book he was reading.
“What’re you reading?”
Chishiya grimaced before sighing. “Something awful. It sucks, when we make it back to the real world, I need to have a chat with whatever dimwit wrote this.” He scowled, his finger drumming on the back of the book.
Kiina snorted, amused at his hatred for the book. “Why are you reading it then?” She crossed her legs.
“I don't start something and not finish it.” Chishiya looked her in the eyes, a smug smirk on his face. Kuina smiled. “You don't, do you?” she tilted her head to the side, an amused glint in her eyes. Chishiya simply hummed before going back to the book which made his stomach churn in disgust.
Kuina stared at him for a moment before scooting closer and leaning toward him, to read along with him.
Chishiya couldn't find it in himself to push her away. He simply leaned back so she could see it better and have a more comfortable position.
Kuina let out a small laugh, “You were right, this does suck!” She almost looked a little surprised. “What made you even want to read this…?” Kuina shifted closer to him, they’re shoulders were now touching. “Well,” Chishiya began, he placed his thumb on the page he was on and then flipped back to the beginning. “See? Started strong and just…” he trailed off, glaring slightly at the page.
Kuina let out a little huff and brought her hand up to the page, her finger tracing under some words, reading to herself. And Chishiya found himself reading along.
Kuina hummed and removed her finger from the page. “I can see why the first few pages brought you in,” she said as Chishiya flipped back to the page his thumb was on.
The contrast between the first page and the one he was on was… shocking, To say the least. The first page made it seem like a mystery but the page he was currently reading was just… Boring, messy, and looked like a 12-year-old girl with a thing for “bad boys” wrote it.
Chishiya looked over at Kuina's face. She was reading the recent page, her lips slightly parted and doe-eyes squinted. Chishiya quickly adverted his gaze back to the book. His heart was beating far too quickly for his liking. Tachycardia, his mind supplied.
Kuina leaned her head onto his, a bored look on her face. Chishiya paused, his hand stilling on the drumming of his fingers on the back of the book.
Kuina just now seemed to realize what she did and immediately tried to scoot away, an apology ready to slip from her lips.
“Sor-”
Chishiya grabbed her hand with his free one, “It’s fine,” his gaze was locked on the book. “I don't mind.”
“Oh,” kuina said dumbly, she blinked a few times. She bit her lip, her eyes staring down at their hands.
Kuina looked back up at Chishiya's face. A light, barely noticeable redness dusted his cheeks and ears.
Kuina squeezed their intertwined hands. She scooted her way back next to him, shoulders and thighs squished together, her head leaning against his head while they somewhat awkwardly read this book.
“What do you plan on doing with this when you’re done?”
“Throw it out the window and let the drunks have at it.”
Kuina laughed. “Do you want to throw it instead?” Chishiya asked.
“Obviously,”
