Oh, boy… is all Liam can think when he opens the door to his bedroom, steps a foot into it and turns slightly to his left to see Theo following him into his bedroom. You see, Liam thought the stupid conversation they were having about something he’s a bit embarrassed to admit he was talking to Theo Raeken about, was over.
“It’s actually ridiculous this whole push and pull…” Theo trails off slightly as he walks with his head down, then suddenly he stops completely when he nearly collides into Liam—who stands as still as a brick wall. Theo suddenly looks up at Liam’s incredulous expression after that, “What?” He says a bit more rudely than he had intended to.
“Dude—we do not need to continue talking about this. Especially not in my bedroom.” Liam enunciates and drags out the last part with emphasis.
Theo only snorts in response, then quickly brings his hand up to his mouth to cover the sound, but alas it is far too late for that. He definitely did not mean to make that noise. Liam can’t help but chuckle at that.
“Whatever…” Liam shakes his head and speaks quietly, but his small smile is evidently written across his face. He turns back around and steps into his room, taking off of his red denim jacket, throwing it on his bed. That’s when he hears a slight buzz sound in the distance, he brushes it off.
Out of instinct he turns back to the door to see Theo still standing under the frame, looking into Liam’s room with hesitant eyes. “Dude? Come in.” Liam exclaims softly as if it were obvious—it is.
“You sure? You seemed really concerned about us talking about your virginity in your bedroom.” Theo quirks a brow.
Liam’s brows immediately drop as he deadpans, “We—we don’t have to talk about that, I’m inviting you in so we can talk about literally anything else.” Liam throws his hands out in his exclamation.
Theo very obviously suppresses another snort as he brings his elbow up to his face and coughs lightly into it. He finally steps into the room and Liam exhales in exasperation, he hears the faint buzzzz again. Liam turns to look for the source of the annoying sound, probably looking very stupid as he pulls at his pillows and blankets to find the fly it no doubt belongs to.
The sound grows louder and he backs away from the bed, when he does so, he hears the buzzzzz loud and clear in his right ear just as he feels something graze it. Naturally, his response is to spasm and squeal at the disgusting bug having touched him.
After which, he rushes backwards to avoid the flying pest that is soaring around his face. He rushes so far backwards that he nearly tumbles down, but is caught by a strong and very solid wall.
At first, Liam is feeling relief that he doesn’t have to worry about how incredibly stupid falling on his ass in front of Theo—for no apparent reason—would have looked. However, the realization fully dawns on him when he considers the Theo part of the equation and feels gentle hands steadying him, wrapping around the edges of his waist.
Liam jumps away faster than he can think, turning on his heel so fast to look at the wall he had fallen into that he nearly trips over his own feet. He quickly saves himself from that embarrassment and steadies himself before he can fall. After that, he simply stares across at Theo. Who is just… staring down at Liam with a perplexed expression written on his face and his hands still outstretched in the same pose they were in when he caught Liam.
“What are you doing?” Theo starts, his perplexed expression becoming more expressive, “First you ruin your bedspread, then you start spasming and running around, and then—” Theo’s cut off by what can only be interpreted as an embarrassed-like whimper coming out of Liam’s closed mouth.
Liam did not need to relive the horror of having confused Theo for his bedroom wall when he forgot for a split second that Theo was even in his bedroom. Not to mention the fact that Theo’s first instinct wasn’t to let him fall, like any good former psychopath with an aversion to any sort of closeness to another person would do.
“I—” Liam starts resolutely, standing up straight and squaring his shoulders, “Heard a fly…” He finishes strong.
Though, his response starts feeling a little—okay, a lot—less strong when he watches Theo’s curious face contort into a very subtle perplexed smirk. Like the older boy was caught between being genuinely surprised by Liam’s ridiculousness while simultaneously wanting to make fun of him for it.
“You… heard a… fly?” Theo speaks slowly as if he’s trying to wrap his brain around Liam’s stupid behavior. The perplexed expression falls away completely into the light hearted smirk plastered across his stupid face.
Liam feels a sudden itch to perhaps put his fist where that stupid smirk is smirk’ing it up. It doesn’t make any sense, and it would definitely be out of pure annoyance that Theo is clearly making fun of him than out of true anger.
“I also felt it brush against my ear.” Liam sputters out, trying to dignify his reaction and behavior as something very normal, which it was. It was so normal. Theo’s just a bizarre person who probably would have ignored the fly like he would probably ignore a crying baby. You see, a person with sympathy would at least check on the baby, but no, not Theo. He’d ignore it.
Admittedly, Liam knows his inner monologue is very ridiculous and makes no sense, but he’s actually getting really annoyed at the increasing humor written across Theo’s face.
“I’ve seen you kick some serious supernatural ass and you’re afraid of a fly. One that isn’t even in here, mind you.” Theo chuckles softly and just as he does, Liam hears the distant buzzing again.
“There is so a fly in here!” Liam exclaims with his hands, “Do you not hear that freaking buzzing!” Liam starts gesturing his hands wildly.
He hears the buzzing grow louder and turns his head in all directions, ignoring Theo’s dumb face in his peripheral vision. Just as he turns to his right, he finally spots the stupid little thing buzzing around cheerfully and mockingly in front of him.
Liam jumps out and throws his hands at it to swat it, but watches as the small black blob buzzes proudly while it easily and swiftly evades his large hand. His head then snaps to Theo’s deadpan face with his green eyes looking at him quizzically, and his arms crossed over his chest.
“Didn’t you see that?” Liam cries out in desperation.
“You looking like a fool and giving me immense material to embarrass you with, yeah, I saw all of that.” The corner of Theo’s mouth quirks up as he tries to keep a straight face, but fails anyway.
“That… that was the fly! How did you not see it!” Liam practically screeches out when his voice breaks slightly.
What Theo does next both pleases Liam, but also deeply, deeply annoys Liam. He doesn’t hear it often, so it’s always kind of surprising and fun to hear it. However, it’s also very annoying because this situation does not call for it. Liam stares ahead with a deadpan face as Theo breaks out into joyous laughter.
“You’re funny, man, really…” Theo trails off and looks down, trying to catch his breath, “I can’t take it anymore, Liam, please!” Theo laughs out when looking back up at Liam, brushing a small tear from the corner of his eye.
Liam feels a boiling rage build up within the pit of his stomach, he curls his fists and digs his nails into his palms in an attempt to not punch the living hell out of Theo’s smug little face.
Of course, to add fuel to the fire, Liam hears the buzzing… AGAIN. This time he sees the fly in his peripheral vision as it zooms past his face and he snaps at it, clapping his hands on top of it.
He opens his palms to see… nothing.
The sound Liam lets out next is not one he would ever admit to having made. A mix between a low growl, a small whimper, and a grumble of annoyance. He snaps his head to Theo’s pleasantly surprised face.
“You’re working together, aren’t you?” Liam states in his controlled anger, fully aware of how stupid he sounds, when he deadpans at Theo.
“You think I’m working with a fly… to annoy you?” Theo says slowly, enunciating every single word with a quirk of his stupidly perfect brow.
“Well, no,” Liam starts with wild eyes, “I think that you, no doubt, brought a stupid fly with you into my bedroom for the twisted satisfaction that would come with you pissing me off.” Liam spits out, pointing an accusatory finger at Theo.
Theo, who is desperately, so very desperately trying to keep a straight and serious face, sucks in his lips a little. He holds them there tightly as he looks Liam right in the eyes—neither of them blinking for several very long seconds.
“You think… I brought a fly with me… into your bedroom for the sole purpose of annoying you?” Theo states slowly and calmly, but Liam can hear the slight skip of his heartbeat and his breath hitch just barely as he restrains his near uncontrollable laughter from escaping his throat.
Liam stares at him with narrowing eyes for a second, then the buzzing resounds in his ears loudly to his attuned senses as the black blob zooms past his line of sight. Without missing a beat, Liam reaches his limit and flares his eyes before he jumps up and smacks a clawed hand out into the air, “Yes!” He roars.
He lands deftly back onto his feet and looks at the palm of his right hand to see if he had caught the fly…
He slowly looks back up to Theo’s eyes, “I’m going to kill you.” He breathes out in a low growl.
“I’ve done nothing.” Theo says, staring at him with slightly narrowed eyes and not a smirk in sight.
“I… am going to commit… homicide.” Liam growls, stepping forward to bring his face inches apart from Theo’s as he breathes hot breaths into Theo’s annoyingly straight face.
Theo glances down at his lips for a second, just as his own lips pull into a small smirk. Liam watches a mischievous glint swim into Theo’s eyes. “Give it your best shot, because… as you know, I don’t go down easily, Liam.” Theo says softly and with a playfulness in his voice that says he isn’t taking Liam seriously at all.
Just then, the fly lands on Theo’s shoulder. The black blob is barely discernable on top of the black fleece jacket, but it is noticeable to Liam’s attuned senses. Liam slowly draws his gaze from the fly to look at Theo with wild, very golden eyes that are filled with an uncontrollable homicidal rage, while Liam hears the occasional buzz buzz buzz from the fly.
Something’s changed in Theo’s playfully serious face; his playful smirk and look in his eyes dropped into an inquisitive expression. After which, they slowly contort into an alarmed look as Liam’s curled up fist comes slamming down into his face.
Well… Liam may have punched Theo.
Theo stumbles to steady himself while cupping the quickly healing bruise on his cheek. He glares up at Liam’s huffing form. His eyes aren’t glowing anymore and his claws have been retracted, but the little bastard still has the gall to be huffing with his hands at his sides.
“What the actual hell, Liam?” Theo spits out, stepping up to him.
Liam simply closes his eyes, then breathes in deeply and out again—clearly reciting his Buddhist mantra in his head—before he opens his eyes slowly again. He’s no longer huffing as he calmly answers, “I saw the fly on your shoulder.” He states it as if it explains anything.
“You punched me in my face, Liam!” Theo growls.
Liam stares at Theo with his scrunched-up expression; his lips a bit pulled back, his eyes narrowing slightly, “I missed.” He shrugs his shoulders slightly.
“You were standing five inches away from me.” Theo states lowly, still cupping his face despite it already having healed, if only to emphasize how stupid Liam has been.
“I was distracted.” Liam retorts yet another excuse.
“By… what?” Theo growls slowly, dropping his hand and letting it fall to his side as he cocks his head and glares daggers at Liam.
Part of Liam is simply so very tempted to say exactly what he’s thinking, because he knows it will shut Theo right up. Though, another part of Liam is wondering why the actual hell it was his first thought.
“By… your eyes… they’re a really pretty and nice shade of green.” Liam nods his head lightly, letting some of his anger dissipate.
Theo simply stares back at him. Those pretty green eyes in question widening in deep confusion and perplexity. Theo can’t maintain his glare at all and it completely falls as his face takes on a deeply confused expression instead.
“So… you decided to punch my face instead?” Theo says very slowly with a hint of confusion lacing his voice.
“Yep.” Liam nods slowly, sucking in his lips a bit, “I was going to punch the fly on your shoulder, but my hand slipped when I… got… caught up in staring at the unique color of your eyes.” Liam hesitantly states as he’s clearly just now coming up with the story.
“I definitely wasn’t punching you in the face on purpose because you’re colluding with the stupid freaking fly.” Theo doesn’t miss the hint of annoyance in Liam’s voice.
“Liam…” Theo states slowly, stepping towards him, “I am…” He continues stepping over to a frozen in place Liam, “Not…” He’s now a foot away from Liam, “Colluding with a god damned… fly…” He’s inches away from Liam’s face now, “For the sole purpose of annoying you.” Theo states, cocking his head with a wild look in his eyes.
Liam nods a little, staring up at Theo, “Admittedly…” Liam makes his classic Liam face; scrunching up his lips with an expectant look on his face, “I now realize how stupid that accusation sounds.”
“Good,” Theo puts it simply with a hint of genuine annoyance in his voice, “Because I came this close—” Theo holds up his fingers to show a near pinching gesture, “—to relapsing on the whole murderer thing.”
Liam closes his eyes and breathes out, “I’m sorry, okay?” He opens his eyes again and looks Theo straight in his eyes, “The conversation we were having earlier kind of stressed me out and then that stupid freaking fly…” Liam shakes his head softly, glancing down.
He looks back up at Theo with his soft doe eyes—he may or may not be doing it slightly on purpose since Mason told him that he totally makes doe eyes—for the sole purpose of accelerating Theo’s forgiving process.
Theo stares down at him with a strange look in his eyes that Liam can’t quite decipher. He looks into Liam’s eyes for a few seconds, as if to search for any residual anger Liam may be feeling. He must find none, because the strange look in his eyes disappears. Theo glances down Liam’s face before turning his gaze away entirely as he breathes out, “You’re an idiot.”
It’s all that he needs to say to bring a soft smile to Liam’s face, one that fades away right before Theo can turn his gaze back to Liam. So, what if the guy can make Liam smile? Theo doesn’t need to know that.
Theo and Liam return to staring into each other’s eyes again after that.
“We good?” Liam asks.
“Sure, fine, whatever.” Theo breathes out, but Liam can see the corners of Theo’s lips trying to curve upwards.
Liam doesn’t get the chance to suppress his smile before he can tell by the way Theo’s looking at him that he’s most definitely smiling at Theo. Damn it! Liam gives up on holding back his easy-going smile and fully directs it at Theo, while he looks into those pretty green eyes. They are pretty, Liam thinks to himself.
Liam’s gaze slowly drops from Theo’s eyes and are pulled down, but stop suddenly in their tracks as he watches the small black blob land on Theo’s nose with a delicate little bizz.
Liam clenches his jaw tightly, looking back up into Theo’s eyes and he sees Theo nearly going cross-eyed to look down at the fly on the tip of his nose.
His eyes snap back to Liam and his whole face tenses, “Liam, I swear to god, if you even think about it—” Theo’s cut off by the palm side of Liam’s very human looking hand rushing at him.
Theo catches Liam’s hand by his wrist with ease given that Liam hadn’t used any of his werewolf force, but the sudden movement causes the fly to dart off of Theo’s nose.
Theo is still holding Liam’s wrist when he looks straight into Liam’s eyes and shouts, “You were going to punch me again?!”
“NO! I was going to slap you to swat the stupid freaking fly and you stopped me and now it’s gone again!” Liam cries out in a deep voice, yanking his wrist free from Theo’s grasp. Just as he does, the black blob then lands on his cheek. Liam freezes with wide eyes, “It’s on my cheek, isn’t it…?” Liam says quietly.
Liam doesn’t miss the slight edge to Theo’s face when his mouth pulls into a devious smirk. He also definitely isn’t fast enough without his werewolf side tapped into to stop what’s coming as Theo’s eyes flare for the briefest of moments.
Payback’s a bitch, is all Liam can think as he’s rubbing the remains of the fly off his cheek and sitting flat on his ass on the cold floor. He hit me way harder than I hit him, how is that even remotely fair?
“On the bright side,” Theo begins, outstretching a hand for Liam to grab onto. Liam looks up from his hand to look at Theo’s playful smile, “I definitely believe you about there being a fly now.”
