His childhood friend, his doctor, his mother: they had all given up on him. Izuku Midoriya was quirkless; he would never be a hero. Then All Might himself, in a meeting Izuku had spent his entire life dreaming of, crushed his final hope. Yet it wasn't All Might's rejection of his dream that truly crushed Izuku's spirit, it was seeing him so pessimistic and defeated. Izuku saw behind the smile he had idolized, and found fear and sadness.
There was no point in becoming a hero anymore. He had been lied to since he was a child. Heroes were liars. All Might was a liar. His dream wasn't attainable, it wasn't realistic, because no one had ever truly been what Izuku had hoped to be. Yet All Might had told him something, made him an offer, one Izuku had refused but had not forgotten.
A new dream was forming, and Izuku wouldn't let anyone stop him from attaining it.
